My best eFoil WIPEOUTS so far (the good falls and the bad ones). I'll show you how to bail out!

  • When you are a beginner at efoiling, you will fall.. but there is a good and a bad way to fall with an efoil. Yes!
    I don't know if we can call efoiling an extreme sport, but it can hurt and you can get hurt bad! Unless you know what to do when things goes wrong and that you protect yourself with protecting gears.
    The only real danger with efoiling is falling on your own foil, mast or propeller. It is sharp and it cuts. So to avoid this, the best advice is to bail out whenever you have the chance and that you feel you are losing balance.. It's ok to bail out! Take your time. Just get back on the board and keep having fun.
    Always focus on your riding (and not the camera or the people watching you..)

    Nice to see that even such an experienced guy like you is falling. That means everything is okay with me:) I was beginning to think I can't do this as good as on TH-cam.

      Yeah falling is normal especially when you are still learning/getting comfortable. This video is over 3 years old and Most of these mistakes don't happen to me anymore 😉👍

    thank you for sharing wipeouts, it's good for beginners to see potential problems.. most of them are very scary since you are without a helmet.
    The first one was really funny though when you are riding like in the middle of the ocean and then realize it's knee deep there lol 👍👍👍

      Thank you mate! Yeah I should wear a helmet but even though I don't, I still recommend to wear one and a life jacket at the end of the video 😉

      And yesss that first Wipeout was unexpected! I knew it wasn't deep in that area but expected it to be much further. Its a good lesson as well. It's best to know your spot to avoid this kind of issues. I got lucky because it's only sand and sea weeds at the bottom. But it could have been rocks or corals in other areas. The board took it like a boss this time!

    • @NEPTUNEFOIL
      @NEPTUNEFOIL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great man! Only recommendation would be to clean up well your material with fresh water asap after your session. Once dry I brush what's left of the salt. If the ocean is wavy then use a coiled leash attached to your knee and to the side handle of the board. In wavy conditions sometimes its challenging to get back to your board after a fall. Have fuuuuuun and keep safe!!

    I ride a Onewheel and skateboard. Getting hurt/injured is part of the game. How does that compare to eFoils? I've jumped off 10 meter boards and fell with water skis going fast, not biggie. Are your wipeouts no biggies as well? Asked another way, have you ever sustained an injury that kept you from eFoiling for at least a day? Or just flat out stopped you for the day?

    • @NEPTUNEFOIL
      @NEPTUNEFOIL  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny that you ask because my next video is about my worst injury while efoiling and how it happened (and how to prevent it). I have been skateboarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding all my life so I am no stranger to big slams, broken bones, and bad injuries. EFoiling is rather safe compared to other "extreme" sports and all of these wipeouts happened when I was still learning, pushing this machine to figure out its limite and maybe feeling too confident at some point. Out of all these wipeouts, only one got me seriously hurt. It didn't keep me from riding that day but later on I started to feel pain in my chest. My ribs were hurting as I fell directly on my board and mast. At night and the 4 following weeks I couldn't take a deep breath and wasn't able to do any physical activities. So that's the most commun thing and the biggest risk while efoiling. Falling on you own material. But again that mostly happens while learning.
      Thank you for commenting and don't hesitate to subscribe so you won't miss the next video 😉

      They seem but aren't.. That was my first 6 months now I ve been efoiling intensively for over 3 years and only once got injured at the beginning. With a bit of experience you know how to fall (and don't fall much). I agree life jacket and helmet is best but.. Not for me I'm a bit loco 😂

    Is the wing strong enough to take hits like that first fall?

    • @NEPTUNEFOIL
      @NEPTUNEFOIL  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it depends on the model, on what you hit in the bottom and at what speed. This one took it like a boss but I wouldn't repeat ;)
      In this kind of incident I think the impact would damage first where the mast connects to the board.

      Steve Johns helmets are a big no no in the riding community. Especially for faster sports like skiing and wakeboarding, they increase surface area when you hit the water leading to more concussions etc.

      @@NEPTUNEFOIL thanks a lot, the reason I'm asking is because I heard some serious things about waydoo. Batteries catching fire, mast breakage, controller not waterproof and runaways. Because of these reasons I built my own efoil. Check it out on my second channel here:

      @@felixt.467 The only case of fire where a Waydoo battery was suspected after a house burn down was in fact cleared after the official report was released by the fire dep. But u know rumors how quick it spread.
      First year of Waydoo wasn't perfect with some breaks and failures but all taken under warranty. Now on, things should get better and better. I personally didn't experience many issues appart from a remote replacement.

      Meh not really. Only if your just learning. I surf and wakeboard without a vest, but I’ve grown up on the water. Lots of times vests are very restrictive and can cause you not to bail properly which can lead to injury.

      Not at all.. Actually been doing this intensively for over 3 years now and running a school. Why would you get bored?? It's the best toy atm to me. Flying over the water what can be boring? And it's not only riding straight. Carving, playing in waves or with boat wakes. Learning and creating new tricks (still a lot to invent since it's pretty new). You can go ride in any conditions.. Wind, no wind, wave, flat, river, lakes, sea, ocean.. Why make u think it's boring? People are boring.. Not efoiling

    If you care about sea life dont buy one of these boards. They are killing our Dolphins here in Cape Town!

    • @NEPTUNEFOIL
      @NEPTUNEFOIL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you are mistaking with the traditional surf foil (or wing/kite foil) without engine. These ones don't make any noise and can catch an animal by surprise. The electric foil has an engine and a propeller and make noise so sea life can hear/feel it coming and dive. Same as a motor boat. I have never heard of any incident with an Efoil. Got a friend who owns an Efoil school in Mayotte where there are loads of turtles (that he loves) and nothing bad ever happened. If you hit something riding an Efoil you will notice because it will make you fall.
      So hitting and killing a dolphin sounds unrealistic..
