  • BE HANDS ON!
There really is power in doing something yourself.
Yesterday we discussed if you should use your freeze dryer to vacuum seal your jars.
The short: can you, yes. BUT I personally feel this places undue stress on your freeze dryer. It’s really not into intended purpose.
INSTEAD! I use a vacuum sealer kit to seal my jars.
Whether this is freeze dried food or layers for my pantry, vacuum sealing foods is a great way to establish a strong seal.
Foods that can’t be waterbathed, steamed, or pressure canned, still need a way to be sealed and that’s where the vacuum sealer comes into play.
    It’s incredibly easy:
Make sure the lips to your jar are clean (and lids too)
Place your lid on top and use the appropriate sealing attachment (regular or wide mouth)
Place the hand pump directly over the opening and start pumping. I like to count to 30 but that’s just me.
You’ll know your jar is sealed when you remove the pump and adapter (you can hear the pressure release in the video) and you can lift the jar by the lid and it doesn’t separate from the jar.
🛑 DONT forget to label and store!
