What's wrong with Southeastern's Networkers? - Southeastern Train Reviews Part 1

  • It took a while to upload this but finally it's up, I had to grab some new footage to replace the accidentally deleted clips, and plus fixed a mistake from the old video.
    This video is not at all made to change people's opinions on the Class 465 and 466s, I'm just pointing out the problems with these trains. I still like travelling on the Networkers, mainly the 465/9s that don't creak like there's no tomorrow.
    I'm just not a fan of the condition these trains are in, and unfortunately a refurbishment is not in sight for these trains as they will be replaced by 2027
    what's wrong with the class 376?

    The networker will never grow old as long as its in our hearts and memory

  • @JaguarProJoe
    @JaguarProJoe ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm in a very similar position as you, I grew up with them, although I was probably born later than you since I was born in 2007, these are by far my favourite trains and it does sadden me a bit to see them in such a state, but they still function as good trains, especially considering their age. I just wish they would get a full refurb instead of a replacement, but that is just unrealistic considering they are old and it would probably be more beneficial to get new trains

  • @bb-3653
    @bb-3653 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I personally dont think they are bad" just interior is shit and behind on updates for some units . It seems that the /9s have been the ones getting some mild adjustments.
    The met cam seats seem alot more stable than BRELs wich seem to fall apart
    I think optic wise, they are a bit tired internally. And the creaking may be a slight issue. A refirbishment programme. And i mean one directed at those issues could fix that.
    If 455s , PEPs etc could last this long despite being 100yrs old (not really) then i believe networkers can have much better feats. But southeastern seem to neglect their trains with extensive refirbishments. 376s are a pure example

    • @JaguarProJoe
      @JaguarProJoe ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I agree, they still are amazing trains, I really do hope they last a bit longer, especially as they only have interior issues with seating and cleanliness, and yeah creaking. But to be fair trains last a long time, they are much more reliable than say a car, which would not last nearly as long, I mean look at the Class 43s

    • @bb-3653
      @bb-3653 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @JaguarProJoe indeed its about the dedicated and specific type of refirb, overhauling networkwr systems and internals would likely make them cheaper to maintain . Newer parts being used, efficient traction system means less money to keep them going. Etc. Better bogies. Let's say they replaced the trailer bogies for inner framed ones. It would make them cheaper because the parts are more modern and standard

    Southeastern should keep the 465s and 466s as they are perfectly reliable trains

  • @NotDavidTrains
    @NotDavidTrains ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thing is, Southeastern will have a few issues, there is less City Beam 707s then 465s and they'll have a stock shortage so only idea I could imagine to fix this is order new trains. Most of the bad Class 465/9s have gone up to Worksop with some bad 466s, 465918 and 465/916 or 3.7 more 465/9 inc 7 more 466s are due to go to storage leading to only being a few /9s and few 466s.
    And about the 465 farewell tour, yes it looks like there will be one due to 465001, 465008 and 465047 getting a NSE Logo, not sure if it counts for the 465189 as that has the original logo.
    So I guess the formations of the farewell tours would be
    465001 - 465008 with 465047 or 045.
    465001 - 465008 with 466001 (yes some 466s will be staying not sure if the 466s will be apart two but this is a prediction)
    465001 - 465047 as a 8 coach. is the formations to be if there was a farewell tour. but yes it does look like it
    The Class 376s are going through a small refurb somewhere on the train not sure if it is on the outside or inside according to a friendly SE staff member.
    but yes the good /9s look like they'll be staying. A bit of a mystery at Doncaster as there is 5 lots of 465s which look like 465/2s so im going to guess that they replace the broken damaged /0/1 subclasses with few 465/2s till they are withdrawn 2027-2028.
    466017 might be in the next 465/9/466 drag as I recorded that departing Sevenoaks station and the motor on that was stuttering all over the place a less SOUTHEASTERN Fix that.
    But yes sad to see the good sounding units go, only a few years left...

    • @awesometrainsandbuses
      @awesometrainsandbuses  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a networker farewell tour should consist of:
      465001 - The first 465 built
      465901 - The first met cam 465 built (as 465201)
      And 466001 - the first 466 built
      If talking preservation, I think it should be 465001 at York (if they have space for at least one driving carriage) as it was built in York.
      And maybe another unit at the East Kent Railway
      Edit from 4 days after posting the reply:
      466001 won't be used in a farewell tour because that's now gone

    • @NotDavidTrains
      @NotDavidTrains ปีที่แล้ว

    • @awesometrainsandbuses
      @awesometrainsandbuses  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If SE choose aventras to replace the Networkers then SE will want to start refurbishing the Networkers, not a single aventra has been delivered on time. The case with the 701s is so bad that they are considered one of Britain's worst trains and they haven't even opened 1 door to the public yet... wth bombardier

    • @bb-3653
      @bb-3653 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @awesometrainsandbuses694 What I've realised with CAF is that they can customise train, and regularly do for other countries. They select which company makes the traction motors ,(despite having their own system) they have their own inverter factory etc. They can literally frankenstine a train. They do it all over Europe. They got mitsubishi to make motors for a Dutch civity train in recent years. if southeastern wanted to, they could request some nice traction systems from CAF as well as some sort of modified designs to make them look like networkers. Just know if CAF deliver the units. We will be most likely promised some got tier traction sounds. Aventra was an attempt at the uk to try and silence motors all together. It's boring. Hitachi/mitsubishi/TSA (Austrian motor supplier) alstom Europe etc have some nice trains with nice motor sounds. Hopefully we get a range of those types of units.
      Yeah we know alstom uk has had major issues continuing the bombadier branch of units. I don't know If desiro city are even on the market anymore but who knows ..seimens make some silent traims though, not my fav. But desiro cities are alright.

    • @bb-3653
      @bb-3653 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @awesometrainsandbuses694 by the way, CAF have a factory in Wales now.
      So future builds can be present here in the UK
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAF_Newport and closer to home with regards to some of the parts and thus may make it easier to select as a manufacturer. Alstom derby is struggling atm apparently with timings and have no trains booked to make. Good because I don't want aventras taking over the networkers.

    • @awesometrainsandbuses
      @awesometrainsandbuses  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if something has to replace the Networkers it needs to be good, otherwise commuters who travel on 465s on a daily basis and despise traveling on them, will still be complaining after the Networkers have been withdrawn. Aventras are terrible, though 720s are ok. Still prefer 317s and 321s to them.

    • @bb-3653
      @bb-3653 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @awesometrainsandbuses694 I'm not convinced the public despise travelling on the 465s. I just don't believe it. I think they are old but most don't care that much./9s are pretty clean inside. But yeah they are aged a bit. 720s are ugly and their motors are un interesting. So are desiros. Desiros sound better than 720s. 331s sound the best. And so do 745s. Let's hope we get a CAF first hand.
