Nice Show, Dave. Super lucky on the landscape. My Bawn Redwood is so overgrown atm, and I'm looking forward to seeing what could be made from that once I cut it back. That forest looks sharp. Nice work!
Great close ups of what to look for. I only have 1st year seedlings, but I can see exactly what you’re referring too. Great info, notes taken, looking forward for the opportunity to apply it.
Love it! Mine is needing a re-look. I might even let it defoliate naturally before I trim to buds. I haven’t decided yet. Watching this brought back great memories!
@@Steves_Backyard_Bonsai my brain and imagination are working on a Tolkien / Hobbit related penjing....I just haven't found the right buildings for it yet....they're either too little or massive in size...
@@dkstott29 Ont thing that I have discovered is that if you are trying to convey a miniature scale, you must be consistent. The scale of one thing must be the same as the scale as everything, or the illusion vanishes. Most people don’t even realize why they are not relating to a particular penjing, but it’s usually because the intended scale is belied by an incorrectly scaled item in the planting. You may end up having to create the buildings if the proper scaled commercial item cannot be found.
Another skill to utilize with dawn redwood is pinching. You can get crazy small internodes if you pinch. When you're getting fresh new growth in the spring, maybe let it get to 1 inch and pinch it back to a half or less and it'll put out a pair of buds wherever you pinched that shoot. Up high, even as a quarter inch getting larger the lower you go in the tree, keeping to silhouette. Basically pinching fleshy new shoots creates buds where you pinch it.
Great video Dave forest looks good mate 👊👊
Great video!!!
Thanks Dave
Catching up on videos. Nice well taught video. This will turn out to be a nice looking forest.

@@derekhill827 I’m going to have to try that. Thanks Derek
O.K., that is one weird story about your forest.
