I love the scenes at Hooli which perfectly show how corporations' communication problems start: fear and a need to act superior to one's peers. The creators have been able to pretty effectively highlight the importance of good leadership, and how difficult it is to find that at large corporations. Every scene with these specific actors shows how much they attempt to kiss Gavin's ass to appear worthy of a promotion, and it's perfect.
I enjoy the Gavin and Hooli parts more than Pied Piper as I get tired of the constant roller coaster of their drama. They do such unbelievably stupid shit.
Yeah the show does a number of things well and not so well, but I do think they are always on the money in their satire of the new big tech corporations of our era.
Yup. People only go up at hooli if gavin likes them, and gavin doesn’t like people that point out problems or try to curb his more outlandish behaviour. It’s no wonder he was haemorrhaging staff and money
Nintendo's CEO once announced a fantastic new Baseball game by mistake and none of the devs wanted to tell him there was no Baseball game in development. Rather than tell him he made a mistake, they squeezed resources and made a whole baseball game to avoid the conversation.
I'm genuinely curious what the two paths were. They might've actually made the presentation way better, but they didn't even put it forward when Gavin said he found it 'fine'.
This is probably one of the best scenes of this show. Reminds me of a lot of "Silicon Valley Geniuses" and the bunch of losers who hang on every word. Elon Musk immediately comes to mind.
My dad used to work a very long time ago in my country's Ministry of Justice as a head case investigator working under the Minister, and one time, the Minister tells some national news channel they were getting some intel about the location of some big shot criminal; later, my dad, who works reallyyy hard, asks the minister "where did you get that intel?", and the Minister tells him "I don't have it, YOU are gonna get it for me..." True story.
funny as it may seem, this phenomenon is deeply embedded in today's corporate culture. Whole teams and divisions work towards a misunderstood comment from the CEO
This is clearly a reference to "Life of Brian" Shoe and stone scene, but also in anothe way a commentary on corporate america... He is giving them a philosophical lesson and teaching them proper presentation. Gavin's ways are truly mysterious.
He has left us a sign! His shoe. The shoe is a sign that we must not think of the things of the body, but of the face and head. No it means that we must cast off our shoes. We must gather them together in abundance. Cast off the shoes and follow the gourd the one true gourd of Jerusalem!
@@youtubeuser2188 I mean, they literally said "this is the word of Gavin," meaning they kiss his ass so much they view him as a God. It is a joke on religion.
Exactly, also the whole splitting into two separate groups because of different interpretations of what gavin said, also the fact that they believe that their is some hidden meaning in the literal phrase gavin said
In the ep, right before he says "the bear is sticky with honey" he tells them that he will be off the grid for the next couple of days and doesn't want to be disturbed.
The BEAR is STICKY with HONEY ....let's see Bear is a ANIMAL sticky is STICKY and Honey is SWEET now everyone still with me?... Okay! What he meant was 9/11 bush did it
South korean corporates work like this. CEO says something and the excuetives try to figure out meanings behind what the CEO said and give ambigious work to ppl below them. The ppl work overtime to meet the needs but failed. But no one feels any shame because they "tried their best" by spending lot of time.
Not so much, because then any dissection of the sketch is a fail to you. The sketch is about miscommunication, absurdity arising from it and resulting factionalism. I wouldn't say its about religion but the sketch fitting so perfectly into the factionalism of religious sects does fit.
Consider the bear.
Sometimes the bear eats you...
I literally read your comment as he said it in the video.
@@blehbleheh same here. I was about to type in comments section and I saw this. I was rofl.

Yeah, kinda like Office Space. Remember that movie?
"The word of Gavin" 😂😂😂
It’s hilarious. They refer to him like a god
A much better version of this is The Life of Brian
He speaks in parables.

“Gavin HATES the bear. You have failed.”
Words I still use to this day
Silicon Valley is much closer to a documentary than many would dare to admit.
Liked the video, but was confused as to why the president of China kept fading in and out
well played
too shallow to handle a joke obviously, and such a buzz killer, lol
The reality of corporate jobs .. trynna find meaning in your boss's fart
This is the exact power dynamic in a lot of places.
I almost died of laughter when I watched this...this has to be the best episode last season
I guess this how cults begin
The word: _Gavin hates all sticky bears and sticky bears will not receive 72 honey combs in the afterlife._
Such a realistic scenario.
I'm genuinely curious what the two paths were. They might've actually made the presentation way better, but they didn't even put it forward when Gavin said he found it 'fine'.
Because he quality of the presentation meant nothing.

What you want scenes of Xi Jin Ping instead?
The bear, when it was sticky. Sokath, his eyes uncovered.
That happens to Amazon now, that’s what happens when you acquire Hooli.

These tech CEOs are definitely and foolishly treated as Gods. Brilliant!
I know Hooli is Google, but this has Oracle or Microsoft (Ballmer-era) written all over it.
dude, this happens way too many times in corporate.
They got a real bear. Lol
Reading all the comments, what if people are over analyzing the line just as how those in the show are over analyzing Gavin's words?
This is very relatable
