I've heard a lot of people saying that Winter's Orbit is about grief so that should be right up your ally, and since it's also a character focused story and lighter on the sci-fi it seems like a really good book for getting into the grenre!

While I have not finished daughter of smoke and bone, I do heavily reccomend her other series, Strange the Dreamer. Both books in that series are my favorite books of all time. Lani Taylor's wrting is really beautiful. I love the charecters and the world. I also really enjoyed the plot. The pacing is somewhat slow and the romance is instalove but the rest of the book makes up for it.

SUCH AN EPIC UNBOXING!!!!! THANKS JESSE!!!! Also take ur time for ACOTAR. Wasnt my thing, really hated it, super boring and pissed me off but you enjoy it as you will. Same with Crescent City. Not the greatest thing in the world, cliche typical SJM but you enjoy it.
Kingdom of the Wicked tho I do recommend. Really awesome. My first Kerri Maniscalco book ever and wasnt disappointed.
