  • MoviePass lets theater-goers pay $10 a month to see almost unlimited movies in theaters. What's the catch? CEO Mitch Lowe tells CNNMoney's Frank Pallotta that it's all about data.

There are many honest CEO's - I think the bigger the company gets the harder it gets to be too straightforward.
Movie pass is owned by Helios and Matheson Analytics and they are only a 30 million dollar company (some of the big companies where CEO's beat around the bush are the multibillion dollar companies.

Same here. 5 times in first 3 months, then only 2 times in the last 2 months.
2 of my friends signed up in August 2017, and have only watched 1 movie per person. They decided to still continue paying the monthly fees, just in case they do want to watch a movie.

I hope MoviePass never leaves. Nobody is ever going back to paying $16 per ticket. The current plan is more sustainable. It's also a more friendly 3 month plan instead 1 year up front. A lot of people are just finding out about MoviePass. I just got mine. Its awesome.

So u dont see all the comments of MoviePass users saying they are now spending money on popcorn and candy now that we don't have to pay $16 per ticket. They also implemented fraud protection for the abusers. The new 4 movie per month plan is more sustainable. No more people using MP just to use the restroom and get reward points. Its a good thing for us normal customers. I hope movie pass never leaves. I'm never going back to paying AMC outrageous ticket prices.

I've been a MoviePass subscriber for 3 years and I LOVE IT!! I never had a major issue with the service that couldn't be fixed with a simple phone call. And now that it's only $10 a month, I'm saving BIG on watching movies in theaters. Movie tickets in New York City are about $15, so I watch 1 movie a month and I'm already saving $5. It's great!

Came across a random, old Twitter post that mentioned MoviePass and quickly flooded in all the feelings of anger this "company" brought me. Never before and since has a "company" put such a bad taste in my mouth. I bought a year of service and 2 weeks later they changed their model to 3 movies a month and offered no refund for THEIR change in terms. On top of that, I was one of the people who's password wasn't correct (there was another story that Mitch ordered customer service reps to change user's passwords without their knowledge to stop them from using the service) and NEVER AGAIN was able to see a movie. I had written customer service on the app several times trying to get a refund of what I paid and no one from the chat every responded, but funny, my support tickets would auto-close at like 2am in the morning since I didnt respond to their reply. Such a shady and disgusting company and Mitch turned into a scumbag essentially stealing every penny he could get because HIS idea wasnt through through. Glad to see them not around anymore and LOVE my APC A-List which is much more sustainable model with actual support. Good riddance, MoviePass!

They had a deal if your bought a year subscription, I paid like 50 or 60 bucks for a 1 year card. I bought 3 them. We went to the movies 3-4 times a week. We would keep our popcorn bags and soda cups and get free refills on the drinks and discount on the popcorn refills. Good times....

Jawlan M The only reason why anyone would be dumb enough to pay $16 for a movie ticket is becuz they dont know about MoviePass yet. The MoviePass package costs less than the price of a single movie ticket and comes with unlimited access to iHeartRadio which costs $10/month by itsself. It allows you to create unlimited play lists and listen to them offline. This current deal is so underrated and its a more friendly 3 month deal instead of 1 year up front. Ur welcome

Let's assume a person watches 10 premium movies a year and the MoviePass upcharge is $7 for each premium movie (also assuming successfully avoiding Peak Pricing). With AMC A List, you can see 10 premium movies and 146 standard movies a year for $240 (only at AMC theaters). With MoviePass, you'can see 10 premium movies and 355 standard movies a year for $190 (at practically most theaters). In conclusion, the obvious movie subscription champion: MOVIEPASS!!

if I'm honest I think the movie industry and other companies that advertise in the theaters with ads, might sponsor movie pass. like the CEO said, your are going to consume more, so let's say it's going to be like Instagram, TH-cam, or Facebook who get money from running ads. movie pass is bringing all this potential customers who just saved $9.80 that might want to spend it on something they just saw on the commercial before the movie started. Another thing they might put limitations, such as time, date, and release date of movie.

They are essentially hoping that you overestimate your movie going habit, sign up, be happy it's only 10 bucks, then use it less and less over the months but you still keep paying them because it's only 10 bucks. They can also gather data about the current movie going audience. It's actually a pretty smart move and ballsy move.

The CEO said it’s like movie insurance meaning that they offer you the chance of getting more out than you pay in by getting lots and lots of people to sign up that will never actually use it and then when they have enough people they will force theaters to give them a better price which will cause the price to go up for anyone who doesn’t have movie pass to make movie pass apear to be an even better deal because it lets some people who couldn’t afford to see every movie go every day because of all the other people working every day to pay for the rising cost of their movie insurance. Another middle man looking to get rich off fooling people into thinking they need insurance. Then there will be different plans based on the quality of the movies you want to see and then there will be select theaters you will be forced to go to if you have movie pass. No thanks cash is king and the less people who touch it the more the consumer gets out of their purchase.

Talk about deluded. The tiers should have been more meaningful - not two tiers, two dollars apart. There should have been a premium tier, where you can see anything and everything - for a premium rate - and lower tiers with lower offerings. It was idiotic to offer 30 days' worth of movies for $10. It was fraudulent to keep promising "unlimited" movies when the service told moviegoers they could only see a movie once, let alone when it started blocking access to movies. Jacking up the rate for everybody, while decimating the movies offered, was the dumbest idea imaginable.

Weird, he never mentioned that they are now trying to strong arm Theatres into giving them a percentage of ticket AND concession sales... 🤔 I will not support something that holds the Theatre's customers (us) hostage to make money off of its unsustainable system. Go with Sinimea.

Tyler Scow hes not wrong about them trying to strong arm amc, a basic google search helps. The other service is crap though ive looked.

The people benefit in the end. If AMC shares their revenue with Moviepass, we continue to share in this awesome deal that is way worth the money for us. AMC is a wealthy corporation, why would you need to care about them? Competition and business pressure is what keeps prices low.

Stephen Schuster actually amc has. They worked with moviepass in the before the service lowered their price.

    • @christiancsq
      @christiancsq 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Stephen Schuster that "pilot only" is what you said they didn't do. They experimented with the moviepass model. That was done to test a subscription plan. Which meant they were either going to continue with mp, throw out subscription all together, or create their own.
