I know it’s an old video but my question is about touring. When did record labels begin taking a share of the artists live performances or tour dates? The record labels aren’t out there performing so why are they so greedy in taking a share of that as well?
I like the point about the event of someone passing away, most of the families/estate would have no idea how to administrate and exploit the catalogue by themselves, as opposed to the labels who have decades of experience in doing so
Great video bro! Just fyi, your description of a licensing deal is incorrect. Licensing deals and standard recording deals are vastly different. The main difference, is a standard recording agreement gives the label perpetual ownership forever and a licensing deal they are only able to make a percentage of money off of an album for as long as the agreed upon term. They do not have any master rights at all. Basically a net profit share

Deserve is an entitlement mentality and very childlike. They assume zero risk when it comes to putting up the money. You deserve what you earn. If you don’t like the terms don’t sign. That’s easy to say when your not putting up the money. Considering most artist just don’t understand business in general… and this is coming from an artist speaking.
