What an interesting idea to tackle the plastic problem by giving you money for bottles. Maybe other countries should have a think about that. As ever thank you Toba for the amazing content and the information that you share with us!
We have that in Canada as well. When you purchase a plastic bottle you are charged $0.10 as a deposit. Incentive to return it!
Same in Scandinavian countries too

Kauflands and Lidls are a huge thing in my home country Bulgaria, as well. They are everywhere. The cheapest thing I have found reduced there was a medium box of sushi for 50p 5 years ago. There is a lot of other promotions there every day in my local Kaufland regularly after 8pm. If you visit the very deep provincial towns in BG you can indulge in cheap stuff. Soup for 1-1.5 euro, falafel sandwich for 2-3 euro.
Mmm genuine German pretzels are so good, especially with butter :)

In Bulgaria' s Kaufland if you wait more than 5 minutes in line before the cashier, you get a voucher worth 1.5 euro. If you find a product, that has passed its expiration date, you get a voucher, as well.

Does Germany not have any Homeless people that need free things or do they help provide all people with? Some Countries are proud to not have people living on the streets and provide their people with what is needed. Homes, Jobs and food! Toba could have tried to find out more about this for future challenges or for research then it would make his challenge more genuine. He survived on more than $1 per day with bottle money so it is really not that.

You can rearn some much Money by cullecting water bottles and eat much or selling water in the streets or selling some chocolate
