For the vintage coloring book you might made a scan of the page and color it. Not the same, but you get the advantage of preserving the book and still coloring an image from it!

I think it would be neat if you photocopied a page from the books you didn't want to draw in, like the vintage and super expensive one, so that you could still color the illustration without having to ruin the actual book!! although I understand if that's too much work LOL

in my town's library they have a special machine for scanning old stuff (so you don't need to flatten and likely damage the goods)
don't know how common they are, but it could be a great idea to scan it on one of these and leave the copies in free access 😊

Hey suggestion. Since the 1900s painting book is out of print and actually the idea of how it teaches drawing, color matching, scale, etc is actually pretty cool, if Rae put her spin on it and republished it (even as a small run) who here would snatch it up? *raises 🙌*

  • @nyshockartist

Hullo Rae, I am glad that you are still un-earthing the unusual! I have an idea for you. Scan the pages of the very expensive and very old books and sell the scans or print them out on a laser printer for sale! You could make the cost back and then some! I believe that the older book is prime for this treatment. I believe the copy-write is expired and as long as you don’t claim ownership of the images or creation rights you are ok legally. Thank you for sharing these gems the rest of us will enjoy them through your videos and maybe if you do decide to sell some copies of individual pages? Maybe? Thank You.

When I was a kid I remember my mother buying for me a poster similar to the giant coloring page, but the black outlines were actually flocked in velvet. It wasn't as large as this piece, but it was fair sized. It came with markers also. It was fun and I can see something like the giant coloring page being a hit at a party with friends or something.

I so wanted a reverse colouring book when I first saw them in every second video I watched, but living in a remote area and not being able to shop on line I was so disappointed. Finally got a chance to go to the big city and found a book store that had like 2 to offer. Wasn't going to pay $25 for the cheaper one, so still don't have one. However... made my own pages by daubing random splotches of watercolur paints on a blank piece of art card and have done a few pieces that I'm quite pleased with. 😊

I have a few tiny coloring books for my dolls (American Girl, Magic Attic Club, My Twinn Cuddlies, etc.). One is slightly larger and was found at Party City. Two others were handmade, either by me or by another doll collector for a swap.
I also recently finally started to color in one of my American Girl Magazine color-in posters.
Also, the old coloring book reminded me that another doll collector found a similar type of book (Peter Rabbit themed from 1915) and scaled it down to be doll-sized; she made it for her Claudie doll (American Girl’s 1920’s Harlem Renaissance character) and the copy was colored and drawn in a bit by a kid.
