If you don’t mind, what one did you start first? I’ve never had the chance to really try longboards at all. Don’t even know how they feel on flat just cruising. I have been a street skateboarder for about 14 years now but bombing hills has always been possibly my favorite thing to do. The last two years I’ve been hitting the hills on a penny board! I don’t know what it is but it carves nice and kinda feels like your not even on anything because it’s so light. I love it but I feel like a longboard will feel extremely heavy and awkward to me. Oh, I also noticed that the penny is noticeably more stable than I recall my street decks ever being. I figured it would be worse than street setup. I got up to 30-35mph on the penny before wobbling and definitely don’t get near that on my normal setup. Do the softer wider wheels really give that much stability? I know longboard trucks are a bit different but I figured those tiny penny trucks would wobble more compare to my 8” street trucks.

Noiiice! Perfect timing on the vid. I'm from the SF Bay Area but currently up in the PNW. I'm a bit older now and getting back into trying to go faster down the hills on longboards(and film it with the GoPro) I used to live at the bottom of the "9th Avenue run" in SF so I did have pretty decent stand up slides. I do kind of need to re-learn stand up and glove down laid out slides on longboards though. Anyway, rolling down the hills or carving & grinding through the Sk8parks is pretty fun, especially since the weather has finally turned nice and sunny.

It’s interesting to see a downhill video made for non-downhill skaters. At first I was confused by the dark eerie music during the montage at 9:00 . The music choice thematically did not hit the feeling I’d normally get from that kind of video. Then the realization came: the music choice actually fits perfectly. This is how a properly sane person feels watching a downhill skater.

Off in the back corner there's a hill with various turns, so I just gradually start further up the hill the more comfortable I feel. So far, the fastest I've gone is 29kms, which i think is 15pmh-ish? :)

Give it a go. Get in touch with your local longboard crew, find a street not too crowded and learn to slide... And before you know it you'll be hooked. You'll start dreaming of sliding corners when you drive, or think about which line you would take.
The adrenalin, the sense of freedom, the sheer focus, all of this makes downhill skateboarding a unique and addictive sport. Give it a go ! The worse that could happen is scratched knees if you're just learning how to slide

He's even more legendary behind the camera. Him and Kavon Z. are must watch content.

I imagine their are signs to watch for longboarders on the popular hills like how some places have deer crossing signs.

@xylexut2589 You will probably never see that for a few reasons. We tend to skate these massive hills very inconspicuously, and treat it like we're breaking laws although no laws exist because cops will come and shut it down kicking us outta spots. Once the spot is blown there will be more attention to the spot and cops will come more quickly with more opposition seeing us there again. We also won't want signs to tell inexperienced people where to find these runs. Dropping in on a hill like this is a lot like dropping in on the mega ramp- once you drop in there's no stopping until the end of the ride regardless if one isn't skilled enough. The ride only gets more dangerous by the second by the time realizing it's too fast and time to bail. That can end up fatal (and has) to anyone not experienced or equipped to manage making it the whole way. It's very common people who are new to skating will have no guage of how fast or dangerous it is, and noobies will just drop in from the top which makes it instantly a sentence to one of the worst bails. Downhill is different too, these hills are miles long. Getting faster beyond skill, and will have slower and faster sections that changes suddenly. One part might be chill but an instant later you're going 50mph and looking down at a 90-180° turn.

Why does Google have multiple people with multiple speeds saying they are all the world record holders for fastest downhill longboard speeds. It’s been like this for years. I knew a long time ago it’s was 92-97 miles an hour or something. google still has multiple names and speeds ranging from 52+ mph stating to be work record holders. The real record holder of 90 mph was just added this year when the record was broken a few years back. Idk think it’s really odd. Google slacking on this so bad.

The one I believe you’re seeing at 52 mph is for a group of 4 people together. Longest train of skaters at that speed. (This was just because Guinness world record was there)
We actually do that all of the time with groups as well. It’s just “not counted” cause Guinness doesn’t see it. Lol. Singular skater is 92-97 mph.
