The account of this betrayal is fictional. The Scottish light cavalry, numbering around 500, engaged with the English heavy cavalry but were soon overwhelmed and fled. This retreat exposed the Scottish archers, who were subsequently routed by the English cavalry. As a result, Wallace’s four schiltrons (formations of spearmen) were left isolated. The English cavalry initially failed to break through these schiltrons, prompting King Edward I to deploy his longbowmen. The English archers unleashed volley after volley of thousands of arrows, causing devastating casualties among the Scots. An English commander at the battle remarked that "The fallen Scots lay on the ground like snow in winter." Once enough Scottish spearmen had been cut down, gaps appeared in the weakened schiltrons. Edward I then sent in his heavy cavalry again, which broke through the Scottish formations, leading to a full rout. The Scottish army retreated, forcing Wallace to flee. He subsequently resigned as Guardian of Scotland and went into self-imposed exile in Europe, embarking on a diplomatic mission to France and Rome.
Probably one of the last great epic movies I've seen in the theater. Historical accuracy aside, it checked off all the boxes of a classic movie...stellar acting, entertaining, exciting, and dramatic with the occasional comic relief at the right moments. Plus an epic score and beautiful costumes and cinematography. Sadly, the checkboxes movies have to reach nowadays are to appease the woke crowds.

I know this movie gets a lot of stick for its historical accuracy but from a movie point of view it’s a master piece. If they stook to the historical view of William Wallace it would have ended up like Alexander 2004. I think Mel Gibson got it spot on and it’s made a hell of a lot of money for Scotland. If you look at all historical references to William Wallace and the Scottish wars of independence, a documentary has a figure of a man with long hair with blue paint, you play games like total war the Scottish units are waring kilts and waring blue paint, they even have a statue outside Stirling next to Wallace’s memorial that looks the double of Mel Gibson. The bloke put Wallace on the map like know one has done to a character in history. And if you actually delve into the history of Wallace he sort of shouldn’t have been as popular as he was and probs wasn’t until Braveheart was made.

I love braveheart, and I'm fully aware of the historical inaccuracies, but when Longshanks says send in our reinforcements, why the fuck would you run into the midst of all that when your own team are firing arrows at you?🤣
I thought back then if Wallace wasn't betrayed, he would have won the match "IN THE MOVIE" But then, The King had a TON, again... A TON of Reserves in his disposal. This is the Royal Army we're talking about, not just some mustered up troops to fight some rebellion... No... First, He didn't engaged his Heavy Cavalry & his Long Bow men are on a standby. They can easily pick apart the Scottish troops as shown in the movie. Even if the Scottish Nobles didn't betray Wallace, they'll still end up losing as they're Light Cavalry fighting a Heavy Cavalry. We know the English had a superior Cavalry advantage and they'll end up getting destroyed. It was a rather smart move of getting the bribed from King Edward I than joining Wallace in Battle. Even if the Irish Betrayed the English Army. They'd still not win this battle. They only way the Scottish wins if they fought in a Guerilla Manner and kill the King.
"Hey colour sergeant, why is the ground all sticky and black?" "Shut up, lad, the king's not paying you to ask foolish questions. Anyway, that's Scotland for you."

Did William Wallace believe in God Braveheart love that movie
Yes he beieve
Yeah he was a Christian.
I love this movie but it's a great example of why people shouldnt learn history from movies and TV. Most people knowledge of the slave trade comes right from the box set of roots
Bullseye my friend and look at the mess we have now. Lot of guilty parties(Africans) were left free of any blame according to that mess of a series.
Wallace should've dealt with those 2 Nobelmen before he fought Longshanks, he wouldn't have been betrayed (in context to the film).
I love how are there no battle formations at all. It's just a fuckfest
this noble general didnt wanted to kill his own people , not happy to call the archers after the kings orders , great acting tho.
For lands and a false promise...
No Scotsmen were harmed in this battle
Sweet sweet victory.
Gready rich nobles betraying there own people nothing much has changed eh rich get richer poor poorer
In reality there was no betrayal, the Scottish cavalry was routed off the field by the more numerous and much better equipped English cavalry.
😢 0:45 poor horses

Time to Play Age of Empires 2 - William Wallace lol
No blood,
No freedom...
Patrick made a great king.
An English commander at the battle remarked that "The fallen Scots lay on the ground like snow in winter."
Once enough Scottish spearmen had been cut down, gaps appeared in the weakened schiltrons.
Historically inaccurate? LMAO there was more inaccuracies and plain old bullshit in this movie than in a donald trump speech.😂
Are you friggin serious, wallaceceas a tall man , mel Gibson in a dwarf on stilts, I was waiting for him to say " giday mate" in his aussie accent, hes a piss poor actor
Another one using the woke word without knowing what it really means
What about Gladiator?
Sempre a um judas traição é a pior covardia
As Robert Baron would aptly say - violence without the paperwork
Excelente película
El crapo,lol x
When you need loyal badasses to help after your own countrymen have betrayed you, call the Irish.
Said nobody, ever
00:9 The Irish chap on the left, "Stephen, why you wearing that blue crap on ye face?".
you fail at using timestamps
@@power2084 what do you mean?
@@shanebell2514 the timestamp you tried to link didn't work because you didn't use the correct format. You should have typed 0:09
Could the cavalry really not know they were standing in flammable pitch?
An Irishman playing the English King ,a Yank playing Wallace only Hollywood could make it up.!!!!
I mean Irish and British actors play Americans all the time. No big deal in my opinion.
Mel Gibson is Australian

Robert the Bruce was not at this battle. He did not betray William Wallace but he didn’t an awful lot to help him either. He did burn down Ayers in England so the English could not use the town on their way back from Scotland.
I love braveheart, and I'm fully aware of the historical inaccuracies, but when Longshanks says send in our reinforcements, why the fuck would you run into the midst of all that when your own team are firing arrows at you?🤣
I know it's ridiculous 😂
Very much PROUD 2 B 👍🏻 🏴and two IRELAND 🇨🇮👌🏻🤍💙💛💚🤍 TRUE 👉🏻❤s
"send in the reinforcements...(couuuggghhhhh.....cough....cough....)
I thought back then if Wallace wasn't betrayed, he would have won the match "IN THE MOVIE"
But then, The King had a TON, again...
2.02 Sod you Wallace! 🤣
FYI, no cgi
I find it hard to believe that the English soldiers did not notice the ground was soaked in oil.
"Hey colour sergeant, why is the ground all sticky and black?"
"Shut up, lad, the king's not paying you to ask foolish questions. Anyway, that's Scotland for you."
