In my last workshop I had a scope on a moveable arm that sat about 12" off the bench that I could move around easily.......this new Rigol scope is screaming to do the same in my current workshop!

Great idea. Anyone found a small moveable arm with a VESA mount that still allows good airflow out the back of the scope? It is so light it doesn't need a big monitor arm

Maybe better to utilise the HDMI output and use a large screen monitor mounted on the wall the see the scope.

    DHO 802 70 mhz 2 channel $329
    " 804 70 mhz 4 channel $389
    " 812 100 mhz 2 channel $389
    " 814 100 mhz 4 channel $459 (500 uv vertical, FFT max 1Mpts).
Mount to bench with a proper articulating arm ( which will cost at least a fourth of the scope's cost!) and you have a nifty rig

Really pleased to see that the displayed waveform stretches right across the screen width. Something that always annoyed me about the DS1000 series is the left and right menus that take up screen space and can't be removed, the main reason why I got a Siglent SDS1104 instead, which at least doesn't have a left-hand menu. Very tempted by this little thing, not that I need another scope!

These are good times for young people to jump into electronics. My Tektronix 465B was $20,000 US when I was drooling over it. My dad was chief of bomber branch in the air force, my mom worked at the base exchange and babysat to help make ends meet, I bagged groceries at the commissary and swept mopped and buffed floors at base HQ. My mom n dad called me into the kitchen one evening and asked me how badly do I want that oscilloscope. I said "Bad enough to eat my Atari for one!" They made me empty my $1,200 bank account...and it was already on my bench, they just told me to go down there and look. My grandfatehr, who was a retired engineer had alot to do with this. All I know is that this was the most expensive thing I'd ever seen our family buy up to that point. I was told I will do well in engineering school and I will become an engineer. We all worked very hard for it and I did see some sacrifice to get it onto the bench. I let NOBODY down. It's sitting two feet from me right now. Over 40 years old. I gotta fix it's screwy DM 44.

I think Rigol is responding to the significant increase in sales of models like the Fnirsi 1014d. They are not good, but they serve the hobbyist and in simple applications like there is a signal or not. This is a quality option for this market I think. A cool idea would be a video comparing these two. Fnirsi and this one to see the difference (or not) 😂of these instruments.

Cute unit, so to say. It is pity they all don't provide the front cover for the instruments. At work we have couple of big Tek MSO4000 series scopes with the front cover, I really appreciate it. The front of the instrument, including the knobs and the screen, is the most venerable part of it. Why not provide a simple piece of dedicated plastic to cover it, especially during the transport and going to a site. When on the bench, you can use the cover to put the probes and 'what-not's' in it. My old 2445 also has a nice cover. Even if the small Rigol is not as expensive as the Tek, why not treat it right. Other thing that would be interesting for this small unit is to develop a 'Snap-On' battery back-pack for it. Sometimes there is the need to make some measurements floating or maybe in the field. Being so small it probably even doesn't use much power, I suppose. So yeah, cute, cheap, 12-bit. Winner winner

What's more important - sample rate or bit depth? Seems like the Siglent SDS1104X-E still has the upper hand with 2 ADC chips that can do 2 channels at 1G vs Rigols 625M (or 4 @ 500M vs 4 @ 3125M) ?
My gut instinct says yes, 12 bits is better than 8, but it's amusing how until the last year or two everyone was claiming that 8 bits was plenty for this tier scope.

You can pick up a 4k "portable" USB-C powered monitor for a few hundred dollars these days - around the price of the scope, maybe, but you can instantly quadruple your screen area. I've got a 15 incher but it only takes USB-C video, which I doubt the scope puts out, but maybe an adapter could work?

The SDS1104X-E is a fine scope and has been proven reliable. These new Rigols are about the same price when you factor bandwidth. And the Siglent has 2 ADC's vs Rigol's 1, which means better sampling when using multiple channels. Personally, I think sampling rate is more important than bit depth at this level of gear. The Siglent offers options like Bode Plot, AWG and LA hardware that you can't get on the Rigol. Finally, the Rigol is a brand new product and they don't exactly have a great reputation for addressing firmware issues quickly - I'd hesitate top purchase one until a few reviews prove it out.
