Always loosen the filter before punching a hole in it. You’ll be pissed when you have a hole in your old filter and an issue with the new one or you can’t get the old one off.
i been around semi with Hispanic truck driver and all we do is get a screwdriver or a belt or chain filter wrench and to drian the oil we use Heavy Duty Mixing Tub to drain the oil in
@@ryanoneil58 🤷🏽♂️ I was taught to wash all that shit from my first strict ass trucking boss and it stuck with me. U really respect a mans clean rig when he opens the hood and the suspension and engine is clean too.
I’ve been working on heavy equipment for almost 20 years. I’m lucky enough that we have a 80 gallon drain pan on wheels. Has a quick connect that connects to a “trash pump” that goes to our oil tank. But I usually just double wrench the plugs loose. And just snug the filters a crack w the strep wrench. Seeing as they hold so much. Also a custom filter “stabber” helps. Made out of rebar 😁
My Detroit series 60 holds 10 gallons. I drained the oil I slid it out and I stepped backwards and tripped over the pan. I had every oil everywhere.. I have a slick drain pan that has a pump in the bottom of it with a hose and I'm able to pump it right into a holding tank in my shop.
I adore the one i put on my detroit dd13 . Because they in their infinite widsom put the drain plug on the side of the oil pan. Got a fumoto right angle drain ten times less mess
Fumoto drain valve is where it's at. I have that same drain pain and my N14 would usually drain fast enough without the Fumoto to dump 2 gallons over sides even with bigger drain holes in the center.
I was changing the oil on a freightliner and didn’t realize the drain pan was busted... yup almost 11 gallons on the shop floor! 4 bags of oil dry later all good!
You mentioned that break pedal being sensitive. when you swap trans I’d recommend putting in a whole new brake pedal valve all the years of dirt and crap they falls down in there not to mention the corrosion. Did wonders to my old truck and much easier to do with the trans out.
Please tint the windows 20% with another layer of 5% sides. Than 20% front windshield tint like your 05 to 08 Cummins trucks. That would be wicked never seen on a semi before.
I used to do oil changes on big rigs in a minivan as a Mobile mechanic and I had 2 huge pales of used oil spill in the back because the lid didn’t seal and dumped out, that van will now never rust haha
Story time, back at fort Gordon me and a few buddies were doing regular maintenance on a M915 and we weren’t paying attention and BSing and removed the drain plug before getting a bucket 😂🤦🏼♂️ lessons were learned that day back in private land
My dads friend uses a big metal drain pan that has hundreds of holes that rolls on wheels with a pump but he uses his forklift to lift it to drain it into his waste oil furnace. They have them in northern tool i think.
You an oil valve. They stripped my treads on mine. So now I use two five gollan buckets no more spills. Also if it gets overfill with the valve it's wonderful.
Try hot oil, drop the drain plug and realize you didn't open the plug in the drain pan and have to reach in and open it before it over flowers. And yes the plug wedged in the way of opening the drain pan.
If it drained any faster it would have overflowed the drain pan before it could drain itself. In case you didn't notice the drain pan has a built-in holding tank and was already on the verge of overflowing before it could drain into the tank.
Look up the EZ Oil Drain Valve and replace OEM drain plug on that truck. Never need to loosen a plug again just flip the switch by hand. So much easier.
Before draining your oil, remove the little red cap in the corner of that plastic tank. That’s your vent. Also, I would get a 1/4 turn ball valve they make specifically for that oil pan. No impact needed.
@@ConvoyBebop I’m not going to say it wasn’t open, it just didn’t appear to be open to me. That’s how we service our trucks and not once have we had it pool up like that. Was just throwing it out there.
Nothing like changing the oil on a series 60 and relizing the auto fill nozzle popped out of the filler neck at around 11qts and having it pump till the set amout of 43 qts
Take that pogo stick off that truck. You can put rear mount light plug and air lines .My opinion when you have it at the dealer check it out.👍Love the channel and all the content!
It’s because it’s a manual transmission with electric motors run by a tcm that does the shifting for you. 1960’s tech with some modern bullshit bolted on to it
Did y’all have the vent on the other side of the drain pan open it will drain into the pan a lot faster and oh yeah made a many mess changing the oil in the cabover in the driveway my wife loves it lol
Not sure what stage you got jacks on, but there are 3 settings. Sounded like you had it on first stage which is the weakest. Only 2 cylinders are active. Use 3rd stage all cylinders are active which is louder and you can hear turbo spool through air breathers..
That aluminum oil pan is better then the PLASTIC one my 2017 peterbilt work truck has. The plastic one has already been changed twice under warranty due to it cracking.
Jakes sound a little quiet. Make sure the switch beside the Jake switch is flipped the whole way up to give it the full effect. Otherwise trucks coming along. 👍🏻👍🏻
did that 12 gauge customs hood latch come from guelph ontario canada? maybe they have more than one location i'm not sure. if it did though, i work down that street from that shop haha
Looks like the drivers high beam headlight is blown its a black color , that drives me nuts. The make over on this rig is awesome and its looking meaner every time you put your magic to it.
When he asked what’s the famous diesel truck owner line was, the first thing I thought was “if there ain’t no oil under it, there ain’t no oil in it”

So true
I'd recommend getting a poly plate for your deck plate/fifth wheel plate. Much easier to use and no messy grease either.
I love how happy you guys always are
I’ve done many oil changes on c15 and Detroit’s in the army and have always used a screw driver to remove a filter.
Now she needs a switchblade turbo, and some Pittsburgh power tuning and she would be mint👌
No lie on that.
Switchblade for the win!
Pittsburgh power doesn't do ecm tunes anymore. Just piggy back boxes
@@Stephen-carr they still do ecm tunes. They talk about it every week on SiriusXM. Piggy back tuners are only for DD15, Volvo d13, and paccar mx13.
Was the vents open on the oil catch pan ?
If you take that red plug in the corner all the way out the oil should drain faster in the pan
I take drain plugs off all the time with an impact. Never had an issue
Don’t try on them new Detroit’s like the dd15
