This is the video I've been looking for 😂I lived in Leighton Buzzard in the 80s and that was a trip down memory lane 🙏really enjoyed it. Me and my mate used to night fish for carp at that pub you started at. Awesome spot back then. It wasn't a pub it was just empty and the road in was private so it was safe enough. No one ever came long at night time. We also fished in the Ouzel. Was really good and no one else fished it round there as far as we could tell. Mainly from where you started downstream though and on the other side of Leighton Buzzard. I did go some way along the walk you did looking for fishing spots once but it was hard work compared to the other way😂
Yes do Lawrence, its a very nice spot. I was lumbered by the car but if you could get a lift to grove lock you could walk that entire stretch back to houghton/dunstable within three hours, at a slow leisurely pace :)
Another interesting vid ! It's a pity about the spring. But as you say, a lot of interesting places are on the private property of the rich. Who probably don't even appreciate the history of such things. I expect all they care about is that it looks pretty / interesting, and adds extra value to their house. Oh well, at least no-one's going to build a car park over them.
Cheers zed that's a nice thought actually, it won't ever have some hideous estate completely destroy it like wauluds bank. The spring might be inaccessible but at least it is safe.
Did you know the reason dad and his brothers and mate's stopped smashing the windows at doolittle mill is because they saw a ghost at one of the windows? They never went back!
Bugger, yes, now you mention it! Wish I'd remembered that at the time for the video but I'll ask dad about that and get his story. I might ask uncle Paul to help me with a video one day as well, he has researched all the local family history and is bloody good at talking!
