FWIW, I use white vinegar for all my clear potions. So far it lasts for years and remains clear. It's a lot less expensive than alcohol.@@CookingandCraftChick
Vinegar simply doesn't go bad. But if you are using vinegar for cleaning it may lose some of its cleaning efficacy over time. Regular distilled white vinegar is 95% water with 5% acetic acid. Cleaning vinegar is 94% water plus 6% acetic acid. The cleaning vinegar is 20% stronger so better for cleaning. I have used both types depending upon what I've had on hand. My potion props are clear and have true colors using both liquid and gel food colorants after many years of having them. All have been sealed into clean bottles. They were all cleaned in a dishwasher, not sure if that makes any difference. Hope this helps!@@emschrader418

@@territimmons8482 the beakers are from Michael’s. I use glass funnels so you all can see it moving. It’s not necessary. However they are easy to clean. 😊

Hi there! Quick question! So I decided to make a crystal ball (dollar tree) version of this and the black food color I added to the alcohol didn't stay black/gray. When I added the blue mica the water stays blue now. Do you know why this would happen? Is it from the color of the mica? I'm so bummed because I really wanted that color shift! Thank you ! It’s possible the mica powder you used has pigment in it. Some mica has pigment some mica is pure, and just is the mica powder itself. If I had to guess I’d say you’re mica powder has pigment in it. This is why I do mini test bottles just in case that way I can find out if it has pigment before I use it in my final project.
If you import the pdf into word or some other program you should be able to resize it. If you have access to photoshop or In design you can definitely resize it there.

If you don’t want to use alcohol as your potion base the alternative is distilled water and a tiny bit of glycerin like a drop or 2.

I use the alcohol because it keeps things from growing and gets better swirls. I used plastic vase filler or plastic beads and they work great.
