Nick Young Should’ve Been The Best SG Of His Generation! Stunted Growth

- Today’s feature is a guy that had the talent to be an all time great NBA player. Say what you want about Nick Young, but you can’t say he wasn’t respected among his peers on the basketball floor for his talent. In the same breath though, those peers may also say that he could’ve been much better IF that or that was or wasn’t the case. Wanna talk about natural hoopers, Nick Young is your go to example. Him and guys like Cam Reddish it’s astonishing they weren’t and aren’t one of the best at their positions. That’s the thing about the term “natural hooper”, it may also come with a feeling of not enough polishing was done to their game, that left much to be desired. To sum up Nick Young’s career, those words could be valid. What I liked most about Nick Young’s game, was to me he didn’t play like anybody, and those are the players with a chance to be special. I know a lot of people bring up Kobe comparisons, but he played nothing like Kobe to me, and that’s not a knock on his game. His style was his style. It was slow and deceptive, smooth and unassuming, but when he was on go and locked in, he could compete with the best. He also had that clutch gene you just can’t teach. Those players that aren’t afraid to take and make big shots, living with the result. With Nick’s personality of never too low in any situation, always smiling and positive, some say to a fault, he wasn’t afraid to fail under the bright lights. Nick Young was poised to have an all star NBA career, being mentioned among the best shooting guards of his generation, and at times it looked like that was sure to happen. At others, it looked like a guy that didn’t peak mentally to match his natural gifts. His energy is one of my favorites ever that played in the NBA, but for these reasons. Nick young’s ceiling was so high but i don’t think he took it seriously
He's a champion coach for the Big3. But he definitely should've had a better career and I believe him playing on the Wizards was absolutely the reason.
He should've dropped 20 PPG at least one season and his rebounding was very subpar for a 6ft6 or 6ft7 SG with range and a 40+ vertical
Nba champ to
Him and Javale would have developed into much better players if they weren't on my Wizards.
I don’t care what anybody says dude was a bucket and was simply a blast to watch them couple of years he played on the lakers. He was the sole reason I was able to watch them god awful teams. I remember him going bucket for bucket with the Miami heat in 2013 on Christmas Day swaggy p you’ll always hold a spot in my heart for keeping my Lakers relevant those years.
Those Lakers teams that were winning 20 games a season, lol damn that must've been a rough period for Lakers fans
Yup. I’m a die hard laker fan and that Christmas game I remember vividly. One of his best games for sure. Nick Young was the best player that year when Kobe was out
It was Lou Williams sir, after that Julius Randle. But Nick Young was nowhere the best player on that team.
@@loveNsuccessfollowsme He’s talking about the 2013-14 year
I watched every game those two terrible seasons were some dark days. But when we had that first young core of dlo, Clarkson, nance, and Randle. They showed flashes of what they became and they made it fun to watch.
The genius of your channel is that there’s always gonna be a player who doesn’t reach expectations, so you’ll have topics for life
In the words of Jeremiah Philips, Nick used to let that thang fly like the 4th of July.
Bro really was the only guy worth watching during the Lakers' Super Ass years.
Nick Young was super talented, and at times you could see his potential. His personality is great, but maybe to a fault when it came to being serious about his career.
He was like a more athletic but of course less talented Paul Pierce
One of my favorite Nick Young stories is that Gilbert Arenas faked an injury so Nick Young could get more playing time in the preseason, openly admitted it in an interview, and was immediately fined and suspended lmao
That’s when Gil was a shell of himself, and that helped Nick Young crack the starting rotation. He owes his whole career to Arenas, otherwise he would have been buried on that bench until it was time to sign an extension.
Arenas is fake so not surprised dude had 3 good years yet acts like he HOF
3 great years. @@arizonaFIREent
@@zeroturn7091 not necessarily arenas also said on the pod he didn’t mentor him the way he should’ve
His personality got some of Lakers fans through a tough transition period for the franchise. I remember he showed occasional flashes of brilliance on the Clippers too.
He was lazy there too he should’ve had 20 point seasons there
He definitely could’ve had a better career if he applied himself, but his ceiling would’ve been an elite 6th man like Lou Will or Jamal Crawford, but he still had a solid career
I disagree I think Nick had legit top 5 at his position level talent had he applied himself nick could have been in that Convo with lavine beal butler etc.
Lou will & Jamal we’re held back by coaches
Naww I heavily disagree dey sun hating shit diz man could have been a all star
Nick Young reminded me of Brandon Roy.
He was nice & never scared of big moments
It's crazy cuz gil admitted he show him how to take the game serious and he kinda upset about but man after gil left he came on a team with kobe and he was still bullshitting 😂😂 man's just was to carefree
How about making a growth spurt series, discussing how some players who were not expected to be good/great become who they are now ie Butler, Marc Gasol, Jokic, draymond, etc
He has one already
Nah they expected marc gasol to get great
@@nmbmemphisbeast3690who? He was a second round pick
@@WilkoSuavehis brother is Pau Gasol??
Anybody who watched Draymond at Michigan state knew he could ball. I thought Aminu from Wake Forest would have a similar career trajectory
He was in that unorthodox Tyreke Evans category, he just was never a killer
Been waiting for this one! Swaggy is one of my favorite players and that shot is so silky smooth. He was good, but you know he didn't have a work ethic. Loved the spotlight and hollywood instead of hooping 😅
AGREED.But,after pro ball the spotlight -DIMS-and-hollyweird stops paying attention to you. And,so do all those celebrities who you thought were your friends, but, aren't. You're just another ex-nba-player who didn't save/invest his earnings after a decade in the league.
Have a feeling Jordan Poole S/G will come down the pike eventually
I don't think you can really count him as Stunted growth because he played 12 years in league bro. I get your point though!
I thought at one point Young, JR, and Eric Gordon were gonna be the next wave of star SG’s after Kobe, Wade, Ray etc
It was clear that JR was never going to be anything from the start. Insane, absolutely insane raw god given talent. But ZERO IQ, and lazy.
Oj mayo also.
They’re all pretty much the same player lol
In actuality. Any person who has ever played in the nba, has the capacity to be an all-time great and goat-like for their position. Its all based on work ethic but more importantly the player's situation, so if you dont have crazy hype, where you can play in a style advantageous to your strength and get proper development, then it's really luck based. All these dudes are beyond talented. Think all the dudes who scored 30points+, never to be seen again or sent to the G league, because the situation wasn't right. Player situation will also have a huge impact on their in-game confidence too.
Jordan Poole is the new nick Young like he has the talent but mentally not caught up to where his talent is so he can be consistently great
It's sad but he'll come around, maybe not with that team though
Nick young is better don’t disrespect
He use to come in my neighborhood when I was teen his then best friend was living in my apartment complex… he would play 21 with us & dude was the truth definitely could’ve been something special if he perfective his craft.
I always liked Nick young and wanted to see him take the next step lol
Nick Young was dope. Great talent and like you said he got drafted by the wizards at a bad time. If only and if only if the Lakers had drafted him and he was a rookie under Kobe. His career would have been different
I waited hella long for this one man
Thanks for making these videos they are very informative and captivating, makes me think “what if” a lot. Injuries, mental health issues, incompatibility, wrong decisions or just things not going as planned it’s amazing to see what time reveals.
Tremendous talent while being a TOTAL LUNCHBOX!!!
Now the NBA got a new Nick Young in Jordan Poole. 😆
I don't know about the best, but he definitely had talent to be a top 5 guard in the league
Your caption blows my mind. “Should have been the best of his generation” 😂😂😂😂
That was a good one ☝🏿
I agree with everything you said in the intro👍🏽
Hey stunted do u remember when I told you to stop saying letsskitit and say let's get it... Don't forget I was here from start!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
Been asking for this one for a couple yrs now
🔥🔥🔥 you should do Wilson Chandler or Dorell Wright as well.
Nick Young is the SG version of Tim Thomas
No
These the players that always baffled me the athleticism size shot and chances, he should've at least been j rich level
Young did have good size for a shooting guard. He only measured 6-5, without shoes, at the NBA Draft Combine but he has a 7-0 wingspan. I've never seen Young not smiling and goofing off. You nailed...he was never serious about bball.
3:25 Shout out to Robertson Park. My West LA heads know whassup
You should do Da’Sean Butler
Swaggy P is one of my favorite SG’s 👌🏽
He and Gabe Pruitt were nice at USC
Gabe Pruitt would a good Stunted Growth episode.
@@johntheprofessional5039 I agree. I thought he was a solid player coming out of college
Nick Young was solid but he was never projected to be more than a starter. Long career congrats to Nick not many last so long
Loved nick young on my lakers he would make watching my team bearable lol him and lou will, Clarkson, Randle, dlo those were my guys
JC, I ended up here good story, but I’d like to hear a SG on Gabe York. Why he’s not in the league?
Facts Nick Young could have been that guy but people have to realize that the NBA is just a job too a lot of dudes and once they get there they feel accomplished.
This!
Def still one of my favorite players
Almost at 💯k
Thid was an awesome episode!! I was a big fan of his. I was just waiting for the MATURITY to kick in and it just didn’t ❗️🤨👍🏽
Thank you. 🙌

I remember when he did that "wtf" look and it became a famous meme
One of the biggest memes ever
Nick Young and Gabe Pruitt didn't get the hype at SC that credit that Aaron Afflalo and Jordan Farmar got at UCLA but anyone that watched the game knew that Young and Pruitt were better.
Video Suggestion/Request: Joe Johnson and Kevin Martin
is Dante Exum on your list for a future video?
Already did exum
You gotta do keydren clark
nick young and jr are almost the same player in terms of wasted potential
Swaggy P! He got that ring tho 😂 .
A lot of greats will NEVER get a 💍 🏆 😭
Yes sirrrrrr its Friday so please pass what you smokin smh😂
For Some people just making it to the league is enough you can tell some players are just naturally talented and play the game at their own pace and have fun some have a killer mentality and achieve more. Depends on the player I feel Nick was content just making it and made the money he could but there was distractions too
One of the funnest players to watch man wish he became what he was supposed to become
Gilbert has taken full accountability
He could've been one of the best but instead he will be remembered as a meme
Despite how inconsistent he was along with the potential he didn’t tap into, Nick young still found a way to get a championship. The one player who reminds me of him right now is Jordan poole with how flashy and unique his game looks. Although so far it looks like he might end up being another case of wasted potential if he doesn’t turn things around. Last game he came off the bench which shouldn’t be the case for a guy of his talent level. Also Ironically both got rings with golden state. 😅
D-lo with the nasty camera work
I'll always be a fan of swaggy P 💯
The only "Superstar" on the Lakers Sacre era lol 😂😂😂
Nick Young's meme is GOAT
If Nick Young took his career more seriously, he could’ve been a modern day Jordan Clarkson. And an even better 3pt shooter imo
It's funny cause his momma pretty much said the same thing about him which caused his facial reaction to the viral Nick Young confused meme 😂🤣 Nick Young did his hard work early, got rewarded and just enjoyed his life. Most NBA players are just happy they made the league. Ain't nothing wrong with that.
Yes!! U, got him 💯💯💯💯
Nick reminded me of a less athletic version of J.R Smith
Do Manny Harris
Nick Young & JR Smith
Always thought he could've been a sixth man contender! Definitely could light it up off the bench
He had a chance at being a superstar
@@andrebryant5081when
Jordan Poole is the modern day Nick Young.
Nick Young, the original Jordan Poole
Nick Young was a 2 year senior, and it wasn't basketball related 😂
Best shooting guard of his generation?? Nick young was a very talented scorer, but I don’t remember anybody anywhere putting his potential on THAT level. Let’s just say best case scenario that he took his career entirely serious like a Jayson Tatum or Devin Booker. I’m still not sure that he would have been more than a 2-time All-Star type guy. To me I think his ideal role would’ve been as a 6th man off the bench, like a Lou Williams or Jamal Crawford. Which would have kept him in the league for 15-20 years but as far as being a perennial all-star or transcendent guy or future HOF? Or best shooting guard of his generation? Nah I don’t see THAT 😂
Jordan poole should be watching these videos, especially this one and OJ mayo. But then again, all he needs is a baddie sitting in the nosebleed sections and he’s balling like MJ
Yeah he need to see this video !!
OR a Baddie
If you can do Harrison Barnes. He made the all NCAA team as a freshman.
He is still playing. To me that is solid
You must be your own man inside and outside the locker room, can't let guys like mislead you astray.
I watched thing thing twice already. One of your better ones bruh. The assessments on Gilbert arenas was loud as fuck. Whew.
Blaming nick young for that trash lakers team is crazy 😂 Nick actually tried winning. Dangelo russell snitching helped derail alot too. But thats later. He played to win not just look good. Those teams was trash without kobe.
Wizards fans know Nick Young was a bucket
Swaggy p was a bucket
His time with the wizards and the lakers are the most memorable
But definitely his early years with the wizards under agent zeros wing wasn’t good for development
We need a stunted growth for jordan poole.
U gotta do Eric Gordon he was definitely supposed to have a better career then he did , but injuries got em
One of the best of his era is a bit much, but he had game. Like you said he was always on teams when they were declining except Golden State. By then he was done.
I wish Nick would have gotten drafted to a team like San Antonio. I think his career would have been better off.
People forget that even Kobe tried to mentor him and realized he wasn’t too erratic
Dude was from the hood lost his brother to gang violence.. dropped outta school … barely got into USC … and made the league got some rings … he over succeeded
I think hes like the jordan poole of today but is taller and more athletic
Do Gerald green
He was not stunted.
He already did Green
@@lordoffaiyum9727coming out of high school he was projected to have T-Mac potential.
Jordan Poole, the next Nick Young
Reminds me of j.r smith
MAYBE THE MOST TALENTED FOLLOWER EVER. GIL WAS JEALOUS OF THAT NIGGA CAUSE HE WAS DOING WAT GIL COULD DO AT 6’8
Day 1 of asking Mario McKinney or Cam’Ron Fletcher
Micheal Beasley Adam Morrison Hasheem Thabeet Sabastian Telfair Anthony Randolph Tyler Hansbrough Sean May
Swaggy p 😂😅🤣
These videos are good and bad at the same time if it makes sense. But I like em title is definitely od tho
Lmao Gilbert was the worst mentor for Nick. This dude was never the same when Lebron touched him at the free throw line 🤣.
