Now that his season is done, was Ant at 22 REALLY as good as he was made out to be??
NOTE: Some may be wondering about the absence of Dwyane Wade in this comparison, but that’s because Wade’s 22 year old season was his 03-04 Rookie year, and he just wasn’t producing nearly as much as these guys… Plus he was the starting Point Guard in his debut year, so technically this comparison isn’t even applicable to him anyway.
ANT is on STACKHOUSE LEVEL...
TMAC stats are way better..
YOU are comparing 6,5 APG in this ERA that everything is called an assist including passes to guys that score 20 seconds later and were most passes are to 3point shooters to real assists ..
REBOUNDS now are rarely contested..
30 PPG in a ERA with games ending with 90points is way better than 25 in a ERA that has games ending with 120 points.
Also you keep saying ANT LEAD WOLVES when half of the games he wasnt even WOLVES best player...
TMAC was always the BEST PLAYER...
this video has a lot of mistakes..
JORDAN wasnt playing in the play-offs in 1984
KOBE not better at 22 than LUKA JORDAN KAREEM and many others i can give a 10 PLAYERS list that were way better.
AND TMAC numbers were way better...
ANT didnt lead the WOLVES..go and check game by game who was the best player..
PLAYER with more points doesnt mean best player.
@@onlyfacts3178 First of all Kareem isn't a shooting guard 2nd luka before now hasn't carried his team to even a finals appearance till now meanwhile kobe average about 30 with better ]ts% in the postseason while luka struggled to beat the warriors, Lastly Are u saying Karl Anthony towns lead the wolves to the conference finals Seriously? Meanwhile Ant dropped 44 in game one and averaged 33 and 60% efficiency averages against the suns leading them the swipe nuggets could barely hold him when defense tried to push him Still averaged 28 with around 50% efficiency great for a guard the only time he struggled was against the Mavs He was clear and no doubt the best player with the wolves as He might have had might have a few times where he had been carried bout in total but No one had better offensive rating than ant man in that post season, He was also ranked number fourth defensively on that team no doubt he was the best player on that team that help them go to the conference finals.
@@onlyfacts3178 If u could actually give me 10 players that were actually a SHOOTING GUARD that were way better than kobe I won't assume ur glazing tip(right cause u can't)
We want competitive, trash talking, confident NBA players who have that drive that Ant has. His mentality is ”old school”. Let’s see him grow and develop his game.
Thats actually new school. That shit got you clocked and benched before the 80s.
No its not, what MJ and Kobe did was trash talk on the court relentlessly then back it up, off the court they were professional.
Anthony Edwards trash talks anytime and any place while failing horribly at the "back it up" part, hes just an overrated player who got his ego pumped up by the media.
NBA media is a short term bipolar hype train. It's sensationalistic. SAS and all the 🤡 at ESPN are prime examples
@@KJPerkins441
What did he back up? Destroyed a Suns team only clowns thought would get anywhere.
Had several bad games against the Nuggets including the most important game of his career at the time: a game 7
Absolutely crapped himself for 4/5 games against the Mavs.
Wtf did he backup aside from his ass into the doghouse?
@@KJPerkins441 Anyone who thought the Suns would do anything are basketball illiterate, its that simple.
He didnt "lead" shit, he got his bum 6/24 ass dragged across the finish line by his team being stacked with talent while Jokić dropped 30+.
Ant hasnt done anything, hes stuffed the stat sheet against the Phoenix bums, had a few good games to start the Denver series then absolutely imploded in game 7 and got carried by his stacked team and then got dogwalked in the WCF while he was absolutely powerless and straight up threw games then acted like a petulant child after game 5.
Give 22 year old Luka the current Wolves roster and they're going to the finals while steamrolling everyone, give 22yr old Jordan and hes steamrolling the Celtics too.
Ant is closer to Jamal Murray than he ever was, or will be, to any all time great like MJ.
He is good potentially great...buy he needs to still grow...
Duh. That's why anything after the conference semi's were just house money for the wolves. They weren't supposed to be there.
Some people are desperate for that next MJ/Kobe so yes they projected their wishes onto Ant and overhyped him. Had a great first half of the postseason and then played more like a 22yo in a lot of those games against Denver and Dallas. But we all like his potential so it's about letting his game speak for itself and cutting out the prisoner-of-the-moment takes.
Those first 2 rounds were really special. The way he owned an All-Time great like KD was something to witness.... but MAN he got humbled in the Conference Finals. Poor shooting nights, Kyrie taking him 1 on 1, getting put on an oxygen mask, etc. Lots for him to learn from this postseason.
I don’t think people are desperate. It’s just that his style of play, is so prototypical of every great SG since Jordan - that’s it’s hard to deny. I personally think he plays like a hybrid of D Wade (inside) and T-Mac (outside). He reminds of T-Man from 2000-2001/2002, NOT 02-03! Before people go crazy.
@@youngblood4127 Fsr when he was dishing out passes like nobodys business it reminded me of Russell Westbrook
I just finally like seeing a player in the modern nba that defines what we want from that position ever since mj
@@youngblood4127 That’s exactly why people overhyped him though, got caught up with style and ignored where his actual current skill level is. Style doesn’t make players great
I think David Thompson is under rated. That explosiveness and athleticism is ridiculous, and unmatched by nearly every player today. He is taking off with little run up in traffic. That’s crazy
I can't believe he put Edwards over Thompson, either.
Ja Morant and Ant are also very impressive athletes.
@@zombie92110 most definitely. Those guys get as high or higher
@@zombie92110that are nothing without athleticism
@@Alwaysavictim4367 I would be very curious to see David Thompson without his athleticism considering the fact that he wasn't a good FT shooter nor 3 points shooter.
Awesome concept and execution Jonny!!
I appreciate it! I know everyone is gonna be quick to put Ant in the rearview mirror and focus on Celtics and Mavs, but I thought this would be the most appropriate time to look at Ant, seeing now that we have a complete season for the comparison.
He reminds me of Kobe. Got in the league at a young age, and it took some time before Kobe put the league on notice. Id say Kobe broke out at age 22-23. Ant will be a certified superstar next season. But damn the media was really saying he was MJ, or he was gonna win a championship. They overhyped him like crazy.
I don’t think it’s so wrong to say he’s a young MJ or Kobe. He has similar talent. He’s extremely athletic with great skills and fundamentals. That is what MJ/Kobe were. He is arguably a better shooter than both already. He’s a bit more immature than those guys were at the age but after some tough loses he will shape up.
@@Mektek19 Ant at 22 is nothing compared to 22 year old MJ. Stop it
@@dilwitchspahlin4761 Why do you say that. MJ at 22 was a rookie lol. He wasn’t refined at that point just raw talent and athleticism. Ant is refined from his 4 years in the league. From a skill perspective he has a lot already, the footwork, handle and jump shot. He just needs to work on his consistency, and knowledge of the game.
@@Mektek19 that's actually the argument that backs up Ant is nothing compared to MJ. Ant has been "refined" by previous experience in the league, while MJ was just a rookie and STILL outperformed Ant.
@@samuelperezgarcia From a raw statistical perspective yes but he is more refined than a rookie Jordan. He’s more skilled and further developed. I think they are comparable. He’s clearly not comparable to what Jordan became but a rookie version yes.
Just my opinion, but I think that Ant is still a diamond in the rough, his personality and overall team performance has glazed him to look more polished than he actually is.
I agree. People are slaves of the moment, both positively and negatively... Its either "He's Michael Jordan 2.0" or "He's a bum cuz he played like crap in the West Finals". In reality, he's REALLY good, and just 22, and most guys aren't winning championships or an MVP player at 22. I think he'll be great, but he's still waaaay short of the All-Time greats.
Exactly. He is too much of an unknown at this stage. Just watch him play in the future. People are overhyping him and putting too much pressure on him for no reason. This is his first great year; let's see how he does going forward. Right now, I am thinking about him less as I am more interested in Luka and how he does it, and Luka is highly underrated. Regarding basketball history, Luka has the 2nd highest ppg in playoffs after MJ. However, he has better RPG and APG than MJ while weaker defensively. His run in this year's playoffs shows that he is not just someone who puts excellent numbers in the playoffs but also makes the team better. He is someone to watch out for, and he reminds me of Jerry West, numbers-wise because he was also superb during the postseason. If the Mavericks win, I would be more interested in seeing what Luka does in the future.
@@jonnyarnetthe busted his tailbone on that fall after he got fouled hard in Denver and that is exactly when his scoring fell off.
@@serbarriston7177it was obvious that his aggression stopped after that hard fall.
Best of the modern era. He’s showing young kids what it means to compete like they did in the old days and not just jack up threes
The only team you could actually say jacks up 3s are these Celtics
It's going to be interesting to see how Ant responds to some adversity. I believe that's what separates the all-time greats. Awesome video as always.

Great video and comparisons. Ant is very talented (and compares favorably with some star SGs at the same age, as you showed), but I agree that people are overhyping him too early in his career. I am excited to see how his career progresses though :)
Hope you have a great day, Jonny 😊
this editing looks amazing bro keep up the great work
So so so happy ANT is ours.
Face of the NBA for next 10 years
Look man im SUPER high on Ant cuz he got that dawg in him but i cant sit here and lie like for all the games that he looked like Mike or Kobe, he had JUST as many games where he looked like a role player....he kinda been reminding me of Jayson Tatum, yeah he'll get you 50 tonight and look unstoppable, but tomorrow he'll score 12
For a lot of games, Luka is looking more like MJ/kobe though
@thinkinginsideout4053 I couldn't agree more man 💯
I disagree about David Thompson. If we speak about previous years as Jordan, then, at 19 Thompson leads his team to NCAA title, and as a 21 year old rookie, he leads his team to ABA finals, while he carried the nuggets with 28 pts, 6 rbd, 3 ast. He also finish ABA rookie of the year, 2nd in ABA MVP voting, 2nd in dunk context vs Dr. J. So not shure Edwards could be considered above.
In Jordan's case the Olympics was a part of Jordan's rookie season in '84. But I get where you are coming from. Skywalker had done more with less up until that point in their careers.
@@izzydadopest 84 Olympics were during offseason, so it was also part of MJ's 1983-1984 NCAA season :)
I still look at ant the same as before top 10 nba player in the league at DAMN 22!!! this playoff run just stamped he the best sg in the league and a top 10 player ... STAMPED
Not even close, I think Americans are trying really hard for that next Americam superstar MVP and after a really good first round and good 3 games vs Denver they all jumped on the Hype train, also his charisma, flashy game style and similarities with MJ and Kobe helped on this. But in reallity he is very far from being the best player in the league right now
Yeah, the push for "the next MJ" or "MJs rival" has been a thing for a long time. I do think there is American bias too. The "best player" title is a 2-horse race between Luka and Jokic... Maybe Giannis gets back in that convo next season.
he had 4 MEDIOCRE games in this play-offs... MEDIA had amnesia for those games...he is more like STACKHOUSE and FINLEY than KOBE or JORDAN...
HE was WOLVES 3rd best player this season...

Jonny is trying to glaze Ant so hard... Lol
Remember, TMac was a BALL HOG
I feel like after the loss to the Mavs that Edward’s is going to work much harder this offseason. I also believe he will glean a ton of knowledge from his teammates on team USA. He will have to compete against Lebron, DBook, Steph, etc. I believe if he continues to work hard and ask questions, ya know be a sponge, that next year he will come back scary good. Definitely not overhyped especially at his age. He is right there with the with the top two guards especially for his age.
I think you were pretty accurate with this one the only 22 year olds I put ahead of him is Kobe, Jordan and maybe Tmac
my belief is that he is showing potential to be one of those face of the league type players, but it’s just too early to say. I remember when these same conversations came around with Booker and here we are, with just one finals appearance to show for it. Go back to the late 90’s and early 2000’s and everyone thought Vince Carter and T-Mac were next up, but they could never get the job finished. Where he lies will all be evident with time, but when you prescribe someone to be the next MJ or league leader at a young age, it tends to lead to disappointment and ruin the overall enjoyment you can have watching a players career evolve.
I'll always appreciate any player that says "fans are coming to watch us play, we have to play as much as we can"
Is it only me that feels the best comparison in terms of playstyle for ant is tmac?

Ant will win an MVP in his career and it will be completely undeserved, I’m calling it now. The media will force the issue just like they did with Embiid last year and he’ll receive the award over someone much more deserving, because he’s going to be the most marketable player in the league if he isn’t already.
Ant had a few games where he left early due to injury or birth of his kid. Regular season averages you can give or take a point or 2 per game due to these circumstances.
Will you update you take after team USA's Olympics performance if Ant does something notable?
In all honesty people need to calm down with the expectations for these young players. Ant is still 22 and is just starting his superstar journey.
"Oh but what about Magic or DRose...?"
Magic won Finals MVP at age 20 in his rookie season in 1980. DRose won mvp at age 22 in 2011. See how far apart the years are. These young guy performances are once in a blue moon.

Kobe had Shaq in his 22 year campaign. Ant had Kitty Kat
The desperation for a new Savior caused him to be pushed into conversations he should never have been in. Let's give him a chance to grow and watch with open minds while not judging and comparing!

He's still got plenty of time to grow. I've been saying since the regular season that a prime Ant with this team could've won the title. But he ain't in his prime yet. He's still too inconsistent. A couple more years and they'll be good to go, provided they keep a similar core intact.
Stop hyping him or his ceiling gonna be jimmy Butler AT BEST
Ant is *UNDERRATED* as Luka's youngest son.
Nahhh... Is Curry Luka's dad?
I disagree with the draw with Tmac. Those who watched the NBA back then, would know that McGrady was a superstar, an unstoppable scorer, an excellent rebounder and passer. He didn't go deep in the playoffs for lack of support, but he was clearly a better player than Ant is now
29.3 ppg is contained is crazy.
👍🏀👋👍🏀👋
T-Mac and Kobe had a huge advantage with their experience at the NBA level, which benefited their performance at the highest level. For MJ, it was his rookie season. Even Ant has a slight edge in that field. And Luka, who has been playing at the highest level since he was 16, is the clearest evidence that experience matters, especially in the playoffs. I would like to see a comparison between this group in their respective fourth seasons. It would be interesting, even though MJ was at his peak at 23-24, but without playoff success.
Kobe at 22 was schooling the spurs in the wcf
Alongside with who? Quickly
Let's put 22-year old Ant with prime Shaq and see how he does. Cuz he did pretty well without prime Shaq this year, in fact who knows how the Wolves would have ended up if KAT (Ant's #2) didn't have a historical shooting collapse in Games 1-3 of the WCF
@@KingAnime101 alongside Shaq, but Kobe was clearly the primary weapon during the western playoffs. Give credit where credit is due.
@@samuelperezgarcia😂 Wow, 1 series in 8 years together. How about the Finals of that same year? Kobe wasn't even the best shooting guard on the floor then.
@@morganlee2806we aren't talking about his career, we are talking specifically about the playoffs at Kobe's 22. Why bring "8 years" into this? That isn't the argument at all.
Rookie MJ was literally a top 5-10 player in the league. 00-01 Kobe was the first time he became a top 5 player in the league. Ant is close but he's clearly not in the top 5.
To be fair, the league is at its deepest talent pool in league history and we haven't seen this many superstar players since the late 80s-early 90s (due to there being great drafts throughout the 80s similar to most of the 2010s having very good drafts).
I think it's a debate whether Ant is top 10 although I could see him in that 8-15ish range, probably is top 10 if you include postseason. But that top 5 which is CLEAR CUT Jokic, Giannis, Luka, Embiid, SGA (for me in that order) is so far ahead of whoever you think is #6 and has been the clear consensus for 2 years straight and that top 4 has been the consensus honestly the last half decade
He plays better than wade no reason to mention dude
I don’t think he’s overhyped at all. People have a bad taste in their mouth because they had crazy expectations for the WCF and he had his worst game of the playoffs to start the series. But he still ah s a historically great playoff run at his age and like you said, you look all time at SG at 22 and MJ and Kobe are really the only guys you can argue were better at that age. And we gotta remember MJ didn’t make a conference finals until he was 25. Ant is still well on his way to being the face of the league guy we want him to be, but with the comparisons to MJ or Kobe everyone wants him to already be at the MVP peak and Championship winning level those guys were at in their prime, but they didn’t really hit that stride until they were closer to 25. Ant said himself in an interview earlier this year he’s at about 40% of what he could be. He’s got the Olympics coming up pretty soon which will likely wash those doubts out of people’s mouths pretty quickly. Could be MVP caliber as earlier as next year. He’s still that guy.
I don’t think he’s overhyped. Sure, he’s no Jordan, but he has a clear shot at being a top 5ish shooting guard. 🏀
When are we getting the 2k simulation with the greatest squads you made?
shooting guards r almost obsolete . WINGS is now how one would describe the position. case in point, mcgrady was a wing, but bc of his height i thought he would have been defined as a small forward. by the way, i thought mcgrady's stats were slightly better than the ant man. good video
TMac is the greatest what if. He should not have left Toronto. It would have been great to see the cousins Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady create their great era and make Toronto a powerhouse team.
He will beat you at both ends of the court with a smile. Name anyone who HAS done that.
What I like about Edwards is that he takes as much pride in his defense that he does in his offense. Not many star players can do that

You dont trash talk, and then not put up solid numbers for your team, then refuse to shake hands on the floor if someone beats you. Ant will become a man before i take him seriously.
That's fair - people seem to be misunderstanding the Jordan comparison a bit too much.
It's the swagger of Ant and the way he plays that captures an essence of Jordan... but he's no MJ ya dig?
We don't know what Ant will become in the future but his future is bright.
Luka's swagger is more like MJ
@@thinkinginsideout4053 no not at all.
(PREFACE: I got respect for Luka)
Luka does not share that those qualities with Jordan. Brilliant Basketball player but not a killer.
You can break the ego of Luka very easily and I've seen it a lot. When Luka is up, he can be brutally efficient. When Luka encounters difficult defense he gets red in the face and pouts about it if he doesn't get his way.
A Killer even if they are losing will keep coming after you as if the time on the clock or the score doesn't matter. Killers are insecure about themselves. They NEED to prove they are better.
Luka thinks he's better and doesn't like difficulty because he's normally... Always better than his opponent so facing difficulty pisses him off more than it motivates him, so he'll find other ways to "win"... where as a Killer facing difficulty makes them try harder even if they lose.
Edit>> Luka's mentality comes more from "I'm better than you I should be winning"
MJ's mentality comes from "Oh you think you're better than me? We'll see about that"
I think Ant is a bit softer than MJ because he can rely on his team more and the system of basketball Minnesota runs is based more on capitalizing on the better shot rather than the individual making the shot but as I was saying originally. It's not 1:1 the essence is there though.
@@NotTheWheel Luka not a killer. Lol, clown.
Edwards scoring is a bit low especially in this more offensive oriented league. Edwards gets a bit too passive In pressure situations but he has the skill for sure.
I think a good comparison with him is D-Wadw
I think that jordan is not a fair comparison because he was a rookie, that being said, rookie mj and mvp kobe numbers are very similar
he beat the world champions and arguably the greatest offensive player of all time at 22. calling him mj is insane but he’s still got it
Not yet. His ceiling looks between D-Wade and Jerry West.
His problem was kat
He was overhyped due to his flashiness and trashtalking. Personally I think the whole mj son agenda was just unfair to him. We saw the same happened with booker and Tatum in the past and now they are all hating on them. I hope ant doesn’t end like them because he has more potential than them. Can he become the clear best player in the league? Maybe not but he can definitely be a top3 player in the future.
His performance in round one and two was absolutely amazing but it was a team effort. Ant didn’t drag his team like LeBron or Luka did at his age to the conference finals. His game has weaknesses like his inconsistent shooting and playmaking. He makes up for it in defence and with his athleticism. He tried his best but matter of fact is that he was playing like roleplayers in some games which shows his age. People shouldn’t expect a 22year old to lead a offence by himself with no inconsistency.
Yeah, at his age, lebron and luka drag a team. Ant did not. Correct.
Media overrated him within a few days real hoop watchers been knew he was like this
I think ant will finish career with 10 all nba 15 all stars 2 mvps 2 all defense and 1 or 2 rings while in his prime scoring 30 7 and 5
I'm too lazy so let's just use the Phoenix Sons as a measuring stick.
Luka sonned the Phoenix Sons at age 23 and Ant sonned the Phoenix Sons at 22. So it's close enough. Though Ant got sonned by Kyrie.
We somehow need storylines in the NBA now. Gotta boost up those hype machines. Meanwhile, we have a 3 time MVP and a bulldozer on the Mavericks that is still playing for maybe his first ring. How about we concentrate on those 2? Edwards' time will come.
Finally. Comment that did a lot of sense
For comparison, Lebron at 22yo actually led his team to the Finals. So imo we wanted Ant to have 22 yo Lebron performance and MJ or Kobe like future from there.
Ant is good...but its still early to say how great he will be...lets not forget how good Brandon Roy was before he got injured...he could've been 1 of the greatest as well...lets just hope Ant avoids any serious injuries
i’ve always seen ant edward as clyde, not mj, yet…
I would put current Ant over rookie MJ. While the Olympics run was great and all, it's what you do against the best players in the world that matters, and the best players were all in the nba at that time.
7th in MVP, an AS and 2nd Team compared to Thompson MVP 7th, AS and 1st Team is maybe the closest. Booker was worse, but T Mac and MJ were far superior. They were top 5 in their era (MJ was basically top 3 at 21). That's the true way to compare players from different eras at similar ages. Ant may get there but people have to pump the brakes on the recency bias.
Hes more D Wade and Vince Carter than Michael Jordan
Yes as is everyone these days. He'll be fine though, I expect he'll use the loss as motivation to grow as a player. Everyone, except Jordan and Bill Russell, have had their stinkers, if he wins championships nobody will care he played bad against Dallas at 22 years old.
Just wait till he’s 25
Personally, i just hate the hype and comparisons. Enjoy Ant because he is Ant, a new story, not because he reminds you that old movie you watch all over again because of nostalgic feelings, lol. He is great for his age, clearly his conditioning and lack of agresion when they dobleteamed him high in the perimeter were missing, but his lack of experience is something every young fella will face sooner or later in the begining of their career. The T-Wolves are in the best position right now, 2 or 3 years later those veteran teams will no longer be a problem. I dont know Memphis, i still think they just have bad luck, if they focus on basketball and they are healthy, they will compete agaisnt the Wolves too. Boston and Indiana are a joke.
Uhhh....he's got some wild athletic ability and he acts like a 90s/00s player but I think more than anything media hyper him because they want an American to be the best player in the league and Like just crushed their dreams so hard they had to bend the knee lol
What about Donovan Mitchell ?
It’s the same ones that set him up for failure comparing him to players he clearly isn’t all over literally a couple of games, that tear him down for not living up to it. Bunch of take bandwagons in this modern era of casual basketball fans.
You forgot to compare him to 22 yr old Iverson and Vince Carter.
Nah, I didn’t. They just missed out on technicalities. Iverson was playing PG at that age, and Carter was at SF according to Basketball Reference
One thing I hated about this years playoffs was all the narrative pushing that’s come with it. First look at the Lakers vs Nuggets, you had laker / Lebron haters salivating at watching them get beat by the nuggets in the first round because they wanted to clown Lebron and the lakers only for those same fans to hate on JOKIC and the nuggets especially after JOKIC won MVP. When the lakers were complaining about fouls they said “they’re babies” but when Denver complained vs Minnesota, especially when they were down 0-2 those same fans who loved Denver and said they did things the right way turned their backs on them in favor of Minnesota. People want Ant to be the next face of the league so bad, they keep reaching for this nostalgia and all I can ask is what more do you want? You hated super teams? No more super teams. You hated not seeing small markets succeed? Denver and San Antonio are on the rise. You wanted parody? You have 6 straight years of it. The NBA is everything the “real” fans wanted and it’s still not enough and will never be enough
You forgot to compare D-Wade
He gave mj the advatage cause of the Olympics 💀
Yall want him to be exactly like sumbody else he is himself
Top 5-10 in this playoffs but nothing groundbreaking or historic
This may be a hot take, but in his prime Tracy McGrady was on par with Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.
What about 22yr old Half Man Half Amazing?
Get use to every player on the planet being over hyped up during post season every year because of the Internet
