    Malcadore is a fantastic character. There is so much to him, it’s unfortunate that he’s often overlooked.

      Aye, brother Spartan. I was going to do a story with his menials complaining that Sanguinius got a day, but Malcador gets nothing. :( Would have been too long though. Too heavy. Went straight for the lore instead. :)

      M Edvinsonn I agree with in the Lore itself he is at times intentionally overlooked as part of his character, to “hide” or blend in amongst everyone. Though in the real world I don’t think he even has a model and you seldom hear anyone talk about him.

      its rather unfortunate that Malcador is a far better character than the emperor and stands in for him too much. The Emperor doesn't even have the benefit of the reader knowing his mind like Leto the 2nd.

      That’s an interesting point. I wonder what the vision of the emperor was for humanity. To raise us beyond what makes us actually human? Or into something else? What is our potential exactly? Did the emperor love humanity because of what we were capable of being or because of what we are?

      Thus, uncle Malcador proceeded to spank the oversized toddlers. Although, both Malcador and Horus did have a point. Malcador only did win the debate based off of how far removed the Primarchs are in reality. Although, that removal from reality is what made them better than humans and a better choice to rule humanity rather than humans ruling over humans.
      The reasoning that Big E wanted it to be that way is the only reason why Malcador won that debate, which is hilarious as the Emperor is the ruler of all mankind and that the council of man is under Malcador's rule, which you coiuld hardly say neither both are human.

    ‘Horus can be beaten,’ ‘He is a fanatic, and that’s how I know he can be beaten. Because beneath whatever horrors drive them, fanatics always hide a secret doubt.’ - Malcador the Sigillite.
    'The Master of Assassins was a ghost among ghosts, known only to the leaders of the clades as one of the High Lords of Terra; but as to which of the Emperor’s council he was, that was left for them to suspect. There were five living beings who knew the true identity of the Officio’s leader...' 'For a brief moment, the man who stood at the Emperor’s right hand, the man who wore the rank of Regent of Terra, studied his careworn face in the curvature of the glass. Malcador was himself once more, the cloak of the Master of Assassins gone and faded, the identity shuttered away until the next time it was needed.'
    Khan told Malcador right before Siege of Terra that he knows that Malcador is Perpetual. And that he know it because Horus told him this before Heresy.
    Sangunius right before Siege called Malcador "dear uncle."

    I think the Emperor did far more damage to the relationships of many of the traitor primarchs, then Malcador did. In their defense. I would say. Both the Emperor and Macador lived for thousands of years, through violence and turmoil before the primarchs were ever created. The Thunder Warriors, as an example; and many other projects including the primarchs were created first and foremost as tools of war. I think both the Emperor and Malcador cared about the primarchs but kept their focus on the end game. To the point of not realizing how much damage they themselves occasionally did. It could also be suggested that even considering the primarchs to be his children. Neither the Emperor nor Malcador had done much in the way of parenting is thousands of years. Also, both the Emperor and Malcador new bad things were going to happen were focused on the long term. Horus was being a egotistical child. It is not unsurprising that someone with a brutal and bloody history like Malcador would act first to put the spoiled child in his place. Instead of acting like a loving parent, concerned more for their child; then the future of all of humanity. It's easier to judge others on their failings. Then to face the reality, that we ourselves are rarely any better. Love your work! Keep at it.

    Another great narration Baldermort!!!
    I had no ideas about his conversation with Horus. You've reignited some old suspicions about him that i put to bed after being blinded by his apparent martyrdom.
    I have long thought (I'm new to this, so this may be a dated idea) that Malkador could have conspired with the lord's of terra to trap the emperor on the golden throne. It's possible they feared the Emperor and his "sons". It's obvious Malkador had an ambivalence towards the primarks. He clearly considered them tools. There's a chance Malkador wanted to "thunder warrior" the primarks, but the Emperor, due to his paternal love for them, wouldn't allow it. Knowing this, or perhaps trying to prevent this, HE stole the young primarks, giving them to new families in hopes they would grow distant and possibly indifferent towards the Emperor; their "father". That finding them in this way he could better mold their futures, and their ultimate demise.
    I don't think he would have necessarily wanted it to go that far, but clearly has no compunction about genocide. Thinking this the only way to end the primarks while simultaneously enslaving the Emperor on the golden throne. How else accomplish both those seemingly impossible feats???
    I think Malkador wanted a more morally neutral world then the Emperors altruistic vision. I think Malkador would want to be worshiped like a God; like the Emperor. So he used hows powers to conceal this from the Emperor and orchestrate this disaster to bring about this very world. I doubt he ever expected any of the primarks to live long without him or the Emperor around, but he knew without their link to lost technology they couldn't make more.. sorry, long comment...

    • @shadearca
      @shadearca 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This theory has no basis after you watch Malcador's and Emperor's discussion during Horus heresy. There it is revealed that Malcador never had any ambition but to see the vision of the Emperor fulfilled and would give his without a thought as he did. Also, it is implied by the Emperor that much like himself he was not once in his life even tempted by the ruinous powers and that says something considering he was the second or third most powerful psyker in the Imperium. Primarch's being tools was always the plan of the Emperor and Malcador being his most loyal subject would see it done. Did he make mistakes? Of course. But he was no traitor.

      @@superchuckg4339 One more thing. The scene with Horus is not conveyed in full in this video. Horus was a complete douchebag throwing multiple insults at Malcador and threatening to kill him at that very moment on the chair he was sitting, also bragging about that he would go unpunished if he did. Then since Malcador was acting on the E's behalf a bunch of Custodians step in and ask if they should remove the primarchs from the room. If Malcador wanted to be an asshole he could be "yeah Horus just threatened my life in front of witnesses throw them out" and then we would have a showdown between primarchs and custodians and that would have been really ugly. Instead, he dismissed them and continued talking to Horus until the latter tried to speak his brother's name. At that point, he unleashed he psychic might and told him "Your father decreed it, boy". Horus kept trying to break the spell and say the name and Malcador said "You will be silent or I will unmake you right here, right now". The other two primarchs pleaded with him to stop before he kills Horus. Also, Malcador started seeing a golden light which might have been a sign from the E to chill out, which he did. Long post but it is one of the coolest scenes in the setting.

I love that you put the blame for the Heresy squarely on the shoulders of men who are simply a little too callous with one another, who do not take the time to ensure that they are understood, and are all competing too heavily for the favor of an often too-aloof father figure. The Heresy becomes a human failing, and thus something that can be related to and an even greater tragedy. In many ways, this dovetails with 'the longest minute' (Same music as well, by the way-- nice touch). You are rapidly becoming my favorite lore source. thank you for the effort and thought that goes into what you do.

    Excellent Video!
    As much as I still hold that Malcador is and deservedly a hero, who followed his friends orders to the cost of his own life...
    I love how you so poignantly expressed, how stating 'the' cause for something of such depth as the heresy is the height of misguided...
    The cause falls upon so many, it leaves none in the imperium clear of conscience...
    Malcador, like horus reached heights of virtue, but nonetheless subject to irreparable actions with unintended, tragic consequences...
    The good does not wash out the bad, nor the bad the good...
    Both are still derserving of their respective praise, and disdain!

       @Baldermort's Guide to Warhammer Yes and no: I wish the bragging right of having watched all of your videos (even the battle reps) but if I'm honest I'm also just doing it for my own selfish reasons:

      I'm a college student and I'm about to graduate. Said graduation was supposed to be this year but not sure thanks to Nurgle. I'm glad I'm about to graduate but I feel odd and lost in many ways, and I'm told this is normal so I'm coping by watching your videos.
      Also: I am anxious about graduation duties I must perform sometime soon (the fact I don't know when is part of the anxiety source) Right now, it's all quiet and it feels like the quietness before the storm, so I'm binging on your videos and doing other fun, in-doors activities so I can get into my duties (whenever I get told to) well rested.

    • @Baldermort
      @Baldermort  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Cortes gotcha. Graduation is a day. It’s an important day, but it’s a day. Don’t ruin it with worry. Sit back. Be prepared and know you got this. No matter what they ask you to do, it will be reasonable and you within your abilities. Or they wouldn’t ask?
      You got this.
      Know it.
      Believe it.
      Then you can enjoy it.
      So relax brother. It’s going to be a great day. :).

    Quite unexpectedly, Horus laughed, loud and long.
    ‘You can’t even say it, can you,’ he said, incredulously. ‘You can’t even say his name.’
    ‘Do not speak it,’ Malcador thundered, loading the words with psychic force that struck the primarch’s mind like a hammer to the forehead.
    Horus reeled, blinking away the pain. His brothers, too, seemed to feel the blow, along with every mortal still in the chamber. Even the Sigillite’s own ears rang, but he kept his voice firm and unwavering.
    ‘This was your father’s command, boy, and you all agreed to it. To disobey now is to break faith with the Emperor Himself.’
    The primarch gave a wry, defiant grin. ‘My brother’s name was-’
    Faster than human thought, Malcador’s empty hand snapped up into an arcane gesture long forgotten by any other living soul on Terra.
    ...
    Horus froze, his limbs locked fast within his armour. He shuddered uncontrollably, pressure building in his muscles as he fought against it. Slowly, Malcador stood, holding the primarch in place with the power of his mind, and nothing more.

    It is hard to imagine that he was simply just a man. My own theory is that he was once a man with powerful psychic second only to the Emperor. He and the Emperor became friends. As Malcador reached the end of his life the Emperor gave a small part of his soul to keep Malcador alive.
    It is said that each of the Primarchs as given a aspect of the Emperor. Well we have Alpharius Omegon. The twin Primarchs said to be one soul in two bodies. Wouldn't that suggest the Emperor has the ability to divide his own soul? Hence be in two places at once? I am not saying Malcador was the Emperor but that he was kept alive because the Emperor shared his soul with him to keep his friend alive and thus enhanced Malcador's own natural abilities, life span and be able to take a back hand from Lorgar and live.

    Excellent episode as always. It is so sad that the concepts you talked about in regard to the relationship between malcador and horus where were given such short shrift by the novels. Instead of harboring deep grievances and well warranted reservations about their future it felt like Horus went in to a snake hut and came out evil. A little more back story and nuance would have done the HH Novels a world of good.

      @syrienangel4137 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Baldermort I wouldn't say he was normal, but that he was *human*. That was what the vision of the Emperor was for humanity, for humans to rule humans. Malcador was born human and was raised as human. The only difference was is that he was a powerful psyker, which in his time, were normal humans. Even the Emperor knows he is not human, simply that he was made from and of humans. And that Man confided onto Malcador in a chess game that he wouldn't mind fading into obscurity if he knew in certainty that humanity's future is safe.

    Malcador's confrontation with Horus just reminds me of the Thunder Warriors. Also, there is room in Malcador's history for a story akin to squad Dynastes of the Adeptus Custodes. Perhaps, like them, he was taken as a trophy of conquest by the Emperor. Perhaps, he and the Emperor were not always on good terms. Maybe he was not initially willing to serve the Emperor. I say this in reference to Malcador's supposed actions during Old Night.

    Malcadore understood that the masses were NOT intelligent. That they NEEDED an emperor. One that played the part but NEVER allowed himself to become consumed by it. He couldn't do it himself but his friend could. He cautioned his friend about the road he was going to take. That is was the path, most difficult. If he lost himself, mankind would rise up and overthrow him. You...cannot EVER educate the masses. Gently guide them and sacrifice them if needed. They will worship for it but only as long as you keep in mind that this is a performance. Follow this path and you'll help mankind as no other!
