Exactly. Well said. As I hate it when journalists mention how reliable a car is. Well no crap!! You are testing it when it's brand new, of course it's going to be reliable.
and they're honest about it all - makes for awesome content and authenticity. I’ve also had work done by them and I can’t fault them. In fact, I wouldn’t.
@@Racedoc really need to get behind the wheel and test cars. Can't do the armchair type testing. Doesn't work, especially when you're spending north of 20/30k on a new car ( if you have that kind a paper to spend )
This looks like a lot of tightly packaged engineering. Credit to you guys for being able to deal with something that sophisticated. Looking forward to how this job unfolds. Thank you.
this is PROPER mechanics work - listening to the actual engine and not relying on a diagnostic tool to tell you what's going on...this is why I bring my car to VAG Technic to get work done; the guys simply know what they're doing. Period. Proper analysis and diagnosis and remedial fix. Root cause identified and resolved. My 2014 B8 S4 has 105k on the clock. Can't wait to sort the timing chains out - just need the 3k for it to be done ( how quickly can you get it done, by the way ).
Ether based engine start spray is the best. But whatever you spray, you need to make sure you're the right end of the engine where the fault is located 🙂 I love my camera for finding broken SJP's on Audi V8's. It's good to know where the fault really is, before ripping the manifold and all the other bits off LOL
And by "full refurb" you mean take the whole car apart, put thousands of monetary units into it and then build it back from damn near scratch. Thanks Audi!
I love it. "Take out 5 million bolts...." I told you a million times not to exaggerate. A bit like the Subaru flat 6 engine. To take the timing chain cover off there are 42 bolts. hahahaha. "Different bolts.... probably some BMW workshop". I'm dead..
@@Matt-nq4du I know this is a normally aspirated engine but I was thinking more if it was a turbocharged engine would it have enough pressure to show up all leaks as some may only leak with higher psi?
YEAH!!! Before watching the video, I see the question in the title. It's an Audi, you drop the motor and rebuild everything! I bet it has 50,000 miles on it and is about to fall apart.
Doh! You always need to remove the engine in an Audi, to for example change a light bulb or check the timing. It was designed by car technician management to maximise the repair bills to customers ;) Did you know that VW Group make more profit on spare parts than new car sales.
Car dealerships in general need to make equal or more on the repair side than sales . V.W. maximizes on repair profit by putting faults in the manufacturing of there car's. 🇺🇸
If you can't afford the maintenance, don't buy in the first place. Performance cars need a full maintenance record, even some basic engine vehicles are more intricate, and should have a full service history. And NEVER just replace parts, screws etc with one's that aren't specifically engineered for that specific vehicle!
Yes, but then the factory should keep parts available. He said needs a rocker cover and you can’t get them anymore. I have seen various VAG technic videos and some parts are not available from the dealer anymore, and the cars are less than 10 years old. Even parts for the VW R32 are not made anymore, or some RS models
That's unfortunately easier said than done. My 14 year old CC needed both rear air dampers, torsion sensors etc done. Geniune parts no longer available, bit the car's in good enough nick to be worthwhile. Managed to get good Febi parts for a reasonable cost. OEM parts won't always keep the car on the road once it becomes cost prohibitive.
What a shame this super car has fallen victim to bad work practices all those bolts missing and ones replaced for random ones is often a sign of poor/budget workmanship which on a car like this is fatal 9 times out of 10
What a liability these R8's are as they get old. This particular one's engine looks to be in a real mess. Buying used could have all manner of expensive issues looming. Not being able to inspect the engine would be a major drawback. No owner is going to allow some random wanting to use tools on their car removing covers ect...
Watching journalists road testing these cars, is fantasy, watching your channel, is reality.

The last reliable vag engine was the 1.9 TDi PD 😂

Nice!!!great job!!!if being a mechanic now for 28 years learned allot!!!much love from amsterdam ❤
Great to see Audi R8 on the channel. Please show more videos for R8's in general!!!
Looking forward to the next episode! Great work
Rust never sleeps.
I enjoy your videos.. I am learning so much. Saludos desde Kansas!
Haha as soon as thought about using an easy out it switched scenes to exactly that. Good job getting that out!
A trick I learned spray break clean on the intake if their is a leak the idle will change drastically

Great video! I was a bit disappointed and sad when the first start was skipping 😢. Looking forward to the engine abuse video soon.
Hope ignition is on when doing smoke test

Молодец, хорошая работа! Привет из Москвы ❤
Good thinking! Nice Job getting that out! Great Videos, keep them coming....BTW wouldn't own an Audi anymore.
well done , that special tool worked the very best ,,, put it away for next time .

Geez that solenoid guts sticking in to the cylinder head gave me vibes of diesel injector getting stuck because faulty seal and blowby of hot soot.

How much pressure does the smoke machine make please?
Most around 3-5 psi so it doesn’t damage things with too much pressure

Watching these videos makes me really happy that I drive a BMW M4! Nowhere near the headaches that Audis have.

What I've seen on this channel is a lot of power train out repairs. A fix to that would be to put the cam drive on the other end of the engine.
Would a ultraviolet light help with smoke detection?

Where did you get all your GTS tools from can’t find them online? Any links? Thanks
what is in the tool chest ?
make of the tools and bits,
I would love to see the video with all that.
Who's in?!!!
why do you multiply V10 mileage by factor 3? coz of the way it was driven or the way the engine is designed?
What's with multiplying the kilometers by 3 because it's a V10?
Overly complicated cars now are a pain in the arse.😀
