It feels weird seeing the Glide ability being used in a serious cutscene.
Sora glided in khii while fighting Xemnas and destroying the flying ship thing.

Twinflame Byond He wasn't using Glide in Neverland, he was using the powers of Tinker Bell's Fairy Dust.
Technically you aren't using glide, as you can go into the fight for khii without glide.

I enjoy the touch of having Roxas Gliding, since it's an ability he absolutely has at this point, and we all certainly abused.
Yes ! I was happy that they added that ( tho it was more funny to watch). simply because it was pretty useful during this fight to avoid certain attacks, like the suck up whirlwind match with the giant light zone attack.

If you count both days and kh2 then yes both final bosses are with his best friends... but only counting days... tecnically still is a fight with 2 of his best friends ( riku indirectly since roxas is sora's nobody)

Huh, this is really satisfing and the scene that came after this now has a reason as to why it begins so abruptly. I never thought that Square would come out and really make an additional scene to one of these old titles, props to you and thank you very much for this! Also we can finally listen to Vector To The Heavens at it's full glory!

I loved this trio a lot. Their relationship seemed so intimate. This story in a whole was heart breaking.
It is heartbreaking! It wasn't Xion's or Roxas's Fault when they leave Axel! They have PTSD and they deserve better!
For someone that’s purposely trying to die, xion puts up a hell of a fight.
If Xion didn't seriously press Roxas then he wouldn't have ever actually struck her down; he would have held back out of simple naivety. Xion wanted to be put out of her misery.

The most heartbreaking part of this scene for me was at 3:56 when we can see the hesitation and heartbreak in his eyes that he has to kill his best friend and that he has no other choice. It makes the following cutscene all the more heartbreaking

That cutscene looks so gooood! I'm kinda disappointed they didn't also add the battle versus Saix, it would have been more relevant imo but its great anyway !!

This cutscene *is* DLC. DLC doesn't always have to be paywalled....
they finally did it. I always thought if felt awkward how they just skipped the whole fight. this is beautiful. although I don't know how to feel right now. I don't know whether I should feel happy that they added this or whether I should feel sad because I now have to watch Roxas kill Xion again.

This is, like, the only real fight in the entire cinematic film... All the other bosses were cut and replaced with a screen fading to black. They have to release a DLC that shows Saïx trying to stop Roxas from leaving, but only gets overpowered in the process. Yes, I'm that picky, OK!?

Yes, yes, that's it! That one scene is all I wanna see, yet it never even was manifested in the cinematic re-release of the game. This is why we need actual fans working for these video-game companies, and not greedy business men who produce rushed material for a cheap buck.... Hell, even this DLC fight scene is rushed.....
Honestly, though the scene is great, it's much more emotional when you fight Xion yourself in the original game. The impact was far greater.

But, of course it would, you are there to experience it.
You played all of hours that would lead up to this battle, and it is a long battle. It builds up the emotion, realizing that while she isn't recognizable, you faintly hear her voice as you (as Roxas) and Xion fight in battle. It hits hard by the end of it. Realizing that in the end, though you tried, you can't save her.
Everyone was harmed in the making of this scene.
This game made me cry the most. It was the first KH game that I owned myself (I had played the others because my sister had them, but I saved my money for this one). It's so exciting to see such a battle that had such an impact on me as a kid be animated through.
This is far from one of the most emotional games out there but I can see how this would effect someone.
Xion up to this point has been one of the two people you could trust and always felt like such an under dog that you had to team up with, she wasn't in need of protection per say, she was basically as strong as Roxas but at the same time you still felt like her and Roxas had to have each other's backs all the time and then you end up having to kill the one person you thought was always going to be your friend is pretty heart breaking especially since you know neither of them actually want to fight, they want nothing to do with any of it, they could've been happy just hanging out eating sea-salt ice cream.
Not to mention that everyone except Roxas and Axel treated her like a thing and referred to her as an object as opposed to a person. Seriously, this game made me like Luxord, Axel, Marluxia and Demyx more than I already did while simultaneously making me hate Larxene and Saïx more.
Alayna Foster This was my first KH game as a child. And I’m glad it was. I got to experience the universe firsthand from the point of view of Roxas as the protagonist. Him “having no memories as a person” is the same as me not playing the other three previous games before this one. Feeling a sense of dread, confusion and disrespect every time Sora was mentioned since I literally didn’t have any association with him. Feeling betrayed overtime when I found out Organization XIII were the villains. All of those emotions were raw cause I haven’t played CoM or 2 prior to this point. Xion as a character hit me especially hard because I didn’t understand any of her feelings about “going back to Sora” being the right thing. Despite being difficult to go back to because of the dated gameplay, it’s still one of my favorite games of all time because of the perspective it gave me other than playing the series in order

I love the use of the original Xion lines in the fight. Disappointed they didn't use "STOP HOLDING BACK!!" but otherwise I love the use of her attacks in the game as part of the scene. This worked really well.

No kidding. Though I will admit I wish this scene included all 4 of Xion's forms + more of her battle quotes from the fight, as well as maybe some additional lines from Roxas throughout the fight just to make us cry harder. The lack of the "Stop holding back!" line was particularly disappointing.
I was honestly disappointed at how short the Sora and Roxas fight in Re:Coded HD was. They could've made it cooler and longer.

By the sound of it, reused clips. I recognize Xion's distorted grunts are the same as from Days, and I'm pretty sure Roxas's grunts were also from the original Days soundset

This is my favorite boss fight and I was so mad that it was ignored in the HD Movie.
Now this is a fantastic addition and it actually looks really cool! Major kudos to Square for adding it! :,)

In the Roxas vs Sora fight he flew upwards to see the conections in Sora's heart.
I count that as floating during an attack. Like how during sora's ragnarok attack he rises up and then fires those shots. I don't count that as flying, i count that as floating.

seeing how 358/2 days was my first real kingdom hearts game this cutscene makes me absolutely overjoyed.

People complaining about this delaying KH3 your wrong first off how can you delay game when a game doesn't have a set release date. Second off all this cutscenes was originally planned to be in 358/2 Days Cinematic but due to time constraints they couldn't get it done in time. And 3rd this Sqaure Enix keeping the hype live until next month at D23 when we will get the Final Information on KH3!

honestly i would have prefered to play 358/2 and have re-chain as cutscene only.
This scene made me cry so hard. And this was after weeks and weeks of grinding to be able to make it this far in the game!
The music just gives me chills god... this was one of the games I thought to be over looked so much but it's definitely one everyone should play.
I really really hope that Xion is somehow able to come back in Kigodm Hearts 3. Please Nomura, she's the one character that all KH fans love and remember, while all the KH characters don't even remember her :(

Actual game: Long, hard-fought, arduous battle against no less than 4 different forms. Taking no damage the entire fight is close to impossible, and Roxas even gets slashed across the torso by Xion in the cutscene introduction to her final form (though thankfully this does not affect his in-game HP bar). Final form in particular takes many, many combos to take down.
Patched-in movie cutscene: 3 minute battle strictly against her final form only where Roxas takes no damage, not even the aforementioned slash across the torso; unless you seriously count the getting knocked away after the blade lock. Xion goes down in _two_ hits. *_TWO._* I thought the story indicated that Roxas is far weaker than Xion at this point in the story? Does that not carry over to stamina + endurance levels?
I guess power levels in the KH universe always have been a little strange when comparing bosses to player characters to what goes down in cutscenes, to the point where we just have to infer who's stronger than who through what the story seems to be saying and what Nomura himself says about the matter; instead of by paying attention to the fights themselves.
I'm happy that they finally included a fight scene at all for when Xion forces Roxas to fight her, though the power levels seem far different here than in the actual game. That even results in an entirely different feel from the original version, where it feels like maybe part of the reason it takes so long is because Roxas is unwilling to go all-out against Xion (thus Xion's "Stop holding back!" line while in her final form in the actual game); but in the fight scene patched into the movie it feels more like Roxas is perhaps a little bit quick to decide that the only recourse in the situation is to go all-out with intent to kill Xion. Though I guess nearly getting hit by an attack that most likely would've destroyed him in a single hit (going by movie standards instead of game standards) may have tipped him off about what exactly the situation was.
RadiantDarkBlaze well the final blow was not like a normal strike, he sliced her straight down the middle through her head. Remember the Keyblade is practically as powerful as something like a light saber. Remember how Sora cut through those skyscrapers, well that's exactly what Roxas did to Xion. Also imagine how long it took them to animate this. They needed to make an entire Xion final form model from scratch and then animate their fight animations and the attacks like the last one, they also needed to animate the death animation as well as animate the effects, this fight scene clearly had a lot of heart and soul put into it. Xion final form is still one of the strongest forms, in kingdom hearts. It's just Roxas was indeed stronger then Xion and was able to defeat her and regain the power that she had sapped from him.
I've re-watched the scene a few times since I first posted this, and I suppose you do raise good points. However, I still stand by my points; including the fact that I _am_ happy that we do at least have this much now in regards to the battle between Roxas and Xion. I still think that they should eventually include her other 3 forms in a later patch; seeing Roxas try to block a slash from her first form only to get brutally countered for his efforts to take a non-violent path could easily be done in heart-breaking fashion, and seeing Roxas narrowly avoid Ragnarok and Ars Arcanum from the second and third forms respectively could help explain the tension that Roxas immediately felt upon seeing her take that enormous final form. It would also be nice to see her raise that healing barrier a couple times, as well as maybe having Roxas interrupt the barrier when she attempts it in her third form (which was the form with the least HP in the game). It would also be a nice touch if Xion would shout "Stop holding back!" as she forces Roxas to jump back after landing the first successful hit on her in her final form.
The final form battle itself could probably be extended a couple minutes longer, just to show off more of the attacks that Xion would use in-game that the cutscene doesn't already show; in the cutscene that we have so far she literally only uses one combo (during which the camera focuses strictly on Roxas), a few singular strikes, and her Limit Break and Final Limit respectively. She also had a blockable gravity orb that spawned right on Roxas' position (I'd love to see a cutscene explanation as to why Roxas can block a gravity orb that spawns right on his position), weaker to the point of blockable yellow light lasers that sweep across the battlefield much faster and come from her instead of being summoned from the sky, a light vortex that dragged Roxas away from her position and towards the center of the battlefield unless he really struggled hard against it, and a combo attack aimed at the 'ground' that sent devastating sky-blue shockwaves across the 'floor' of the battlefield.
Story-wise, Xion was actually far stronger than Roxas; but she was holding back just enough to allow Roxas to win. For the most prominent example shown in this cutscene, she had ample opportunity to block or interrupt Roxas' second attack but chose not to; presumably because she saw that Roxas was finally ready to strike her with his full strength, and seeing his hesitation to do it even once she didn't want to force him to summon the will to do it a second time. I would even go so far as to say that she purposely lined herself up to take maximum damage from that second attack. In the game (where the fight in general takes a while), she gives Roxas _very_ long openings between attacks; out of all the enemies in the game, Xion's final form has the longest open period between attacks (I'm pretty sure even the Zip Slasher is second to her in that regard). Her basic (non-shockwave generating) combo attack even comes out particularly slowly and doesn't have many if any hitboxes close to her body, thus generally allowing Roxas to continue attacking her during it as long as he's at least a little bit careful.

fun fact, without the X her name is Ion. and ion is a spare electron that can be given out and taken by other atoms. meaning in her name, xion was meant to belong to someone else and was never fit to be on her own.

Its like the first one he was "holdin back", them she attacks him with her full power than he understands and attack with full power, you can see that in the face that he makes before attacking her.
Hah, her "full power" is the attack that's supposed to be her Final Limit; the attack that only works when a Nobody (or similar) is truly on their last legs. The 'held back' blow you refer to would have to actually be pretty damn strong to immediately push her to the point where she could access her Final Limit. That, or maybe this cutscene just isn't portraying her durability in that form very well.

As awesome as this is, it really just didn't get me excited, as a whole I think the fight scenes in kh are done less well than other fight scenes, from anime, and I couldn't get hyped for it. Also it wasn't done as well as the manga version, which was a lot more emotional, with Roxas accepting xion after she started to look like sora, with the line "xion is still xion" precluding the fight there. The movie itself functioned fine without the fight, as the emotions were carried over well without the need of a fight scene. I personally would rather have gotten the fight scene of siax and roxas animated instead, as that was in the game and not the movie, and would be more potent as a scene. Any thoughts on this?
The manga's way too good for a fair comparison.
I think the current cutscenes were not that far off from the manga's quality in the story. What I think the manga did a lot better than the game did was set up the organization a lot better as it has a more balanced distribution of light heartedness and menace. At this point in the manga it was around the same quality as the game, with some parts of the game, like xion's scene with namine, and then axel, done better in the game than the manga. They really just needed a few more lines of dialogue for it to get to the manga's quality in this scene.
That's what I mean. I actually remembered Xion saying more in this scene until I watched it again today, because the manga stuck out so much for me.

There was a huge disconnect, and they couldn't exactly get away with cutting to black like most of the fights in this movie.
I really hate that they cut out Saix vs Roxas and I do think its a bit lazy, but this scene was needed more than that.

My god!!!! This was amazing
This fight was beautiful. Compared to the other versions of this scene, it just fades to black, but they give us an actual fight capturing the desperation each character is facing.
As much as I love the manga for expanding the plot of 358/2 Days they just skim this fight entirely. Xion just goes down with one slabs anticlimactically.

Not really....pretty slow paced and lack luster fight choreography. There's definitely been better fight scenes than this especially considering this is the big boss fight. Like I said, I'm glad they put some effort just was expecting a little more...

That's my point, this was just very lackluster...it didn't have the impact it did in the actual game. But again, it's better than nothing!
Well I would say that's to be expected considering this is a fight between a human-sized Roxas and a giant Xion, while the other fights were between characters of similar/the same size
This shreaded through my expectations of a cinematic version of final Xion, Using her ultimate attack at the end got me so excited because of how epic I imagined it would look in HD.
This is amazing!!! I think all that's left now is the Saix fight???
