    Cassettes!! They're coming back someday!
5 months ago came across a 1984 Ford F-250 extended cab, 6.9 diesel, C-6 tranny, 2-wheel drive (they work just fine to ya know), 3:55 gears, 93k original miles, still has original '84 glow plug setup, will change it out when the snow's gone, to newer 7.3 glow plug system. Truck had been stored in a garage/barn in the Big Hole area of Montana. Only used to haul a travel trailer to-and-back from Arizona during the winter months. No rust, super clean, could park it on a stealership showroom floor. Tan with wide dark chocolate side paint, two-tone for that era. New mechanical fuel pump and starter. Tires less than 200 miles on 'em. A fun n' Classic From the Old Days of Ford diesels. Will have it out on the highways when snow's gone this Spring.
My daily driver is a 1986 Ford F-250, standard cab, 4x4, 6.9 diesel, 4-speed, 4:10 gears, previous owner installed a Gear Vender behind the tranny, so in 4th-over it's 3:22, 181,500 original miles and runs like a top. If cruise at 60 mph it will get 20 mpg. Going faster of course decreases the mileage.
I like the older Bull Nose Fords...one tough truck.

that’s what i said too. then i bought one, and i’m gonna be honest, it’s not really worth it. they’re a blast and i love driving it every time i get into it, but it makes a piss poor daily. they’re slow, uncomfortable and large. it takes like 15 minutes of driving before it even makes any power whatsoever. however, i wouldn’t trade it for the world ;)

@@MCatwar I got a 97 f250hd, 460 truck. Stock minus air tunnel removel and k&n filter. Runs amazing. Throttle respone is awesome for a truck. Only 128k miles on the unit.

    • @MCatwar
      @MCatwar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@alec4453 thats good! thats a solid truck. I was actually going to get a 460 and didn't wanna deal with a 7.3 but in the end I'll take my 22mpg and ability to climb a 7% grade at 65mph in 5th gear for the added trouble of owning a diesel in a super cold climate, i.e. fuel additives, radiator covers, block heater. my throttle response is pretty ass but that's just a old diesel truck thing. The first third of my pedal doesn't do hardly anything until it does, and you can feel the injectors kick in and the torque is all of a sudden just...there, haha! I just am astounded how my truck gets better fuel economy than my mitsubishi SUV, by about 4mpg.

@@MCatwar man aint gonna lie i get a about 7.5 maybe 8-9 gallons to the mile at best. Truck was used at big powerhorn ski resort here in ironwood michigan. Taken real good care of before i got my hands on it. Other than the gas mileage i have no complaints. Truck pulls really hard, I can get it to cruise 65mph no problem up inclines. Got the e40d , aod. Though unfortunately trans took a dump on me last week . other than that ( my fault for running it without fluid. Had a leak i wasnt aware of ) never had any issues. Always ran royal purple hmx, flushed coolant every 5k miles along with oil change, i honestly couldnt ask for a better truck. Runs and outperforms my 2011 ram 2500 work truck. My family had a truck just like this, just an XLT and had the biggest v8 gas engine possible. Every other thing was the same besides the rims and bullbar, of it wasn’t a manual either. I loved it so much, I’m trying to buy it back. I have tracked it down the service center it goes to and the town it’s registered in but I may be stopped dead now. Oh yeah it also had this amazing custom built camper shell that was so perfectly matched it looked so amazing. Sadly we live in Minnesota, and it was basically destined to a scrap yard when we traded it in. The guy who test drove it said it would be going to an auction, which I assume it did and someone bought it. There really isn’t a way they could have patched all the rust and the suspension was so screwed. It appears they didn’t drive it for like a year after buying it, maybe they just restored it somehow. I personally think I’ll probably find it beat to hell on a farm, but maybe then I would have a chance to buy it. I’m only fearing they lifted it and stuff and are emotionally attached. I hope some day I get to rescue it. For my birthday or something this year ima just go drive around in that town tryna find it, because I’ll have my permit on my birthday, well probably not that day but I will go when I do have it, and I can get a lot of hours done that way.

I would love a truck just like this.
Those '90s F-Series were the best looking of the 1980 generation.
And the diesel with a manual? Sweet.
I've actually started poking around for an F-Series with a manual myself. Just an inexpensive truck, maybe in need of some basic tlc (I live in an apartment, so I don't have a place to do more intensive work).
    But that truck is amazing.

Saying 7.3 idi is the "indirect" way to say it's alot slower than a 7.3 powerstroke. Haha great engines great video!

Are you saying a 7000 pound truck with 185HP is slow? :)

Cool truck. Love how the owner had to back way off in order to be heard with the hood up and engine running. I admittedly don't know much detail in the history of Ford pickup truck diesels, but somehow I'm surprised this is a turbo model. Great job in keeping it looking and running great.

We have a 96 F350 single cab long bed Powerstroke manual 4.10 gears 4x4 out on our little ranch just east of the San Juans in the SLV. Ours is also in excellent shape and used regularly. Spouse just took it to town this morning to pick up bales of pine shavings bedding and various bags of feed. We've been running Goodyear MT with the kevlar side walls to churn through the mud and snow. People see it and ask me to sell it on the street. LOL where would I get something else as capable and reliable? Enjoy your ride.

Hey this is a lot like my truck! Mine isn't nearly as nice but it's a 95' Powerstroke so it has some electronic controlled engine stuff but that means there's a better performance aftermarket for it too. It's so neat to see such a flawless truck when most of these were worked into the ground.

I thought my NA idi was pretty clean. That truck hasn’t been worked at all or seen anything in the bed. Nice truck fellow idi owner! I have the same truck except for the paint & 4x4 down south.

Love it, these OBS Fords are my all time fav truck, but it would be great to see a ride along. Though I did own a 93 F250 for a while. I purchased a few year ago just as a cheap runaround while visiting Virginia, owned it for the 7 months I was there and liked it so much I brought it back to the UK with me. I only sold it to fund a business I was hoping to start in VA but the Convid came along and well, yeah! But one way or another I'll have another, weather that's in VA or back here in the UK I don't know but I will have another.
