F-35 Joint Strike Fighter • One Cool Jet Plane

  • The F-35 is the world's most advanced multi-role fighter jet. It can take off in a short hop, plus it can hover and land like a helicopter. The short takeoff and vertical landing capabilities (STOVL) of the F-35 makes it ideally suited for carrier operations as in this video. It also has stealth technology which makes it virtually invisible to radar.

What an awesome jet! 43,000 pounds of thrust and stealth built in from the beginning. It’s beautiful to look at as well.

despite of the critics about its combat performance and characteristics. i admit, compare to it predecessor, the "widow maker" harrier, f35b is a giant leap on technology, especially for the flight safety during take off/vertical landing. it's hard not to amaze. it's the best from her two sibling, the a and c series.

people always bash the f35 but forget how many other aircraft have had problems in their initial development. the point of testing is to work out these bugs so that later models being produced don't have them.
even the p51 mustang, the pride of ww2 american fighters had huge problems and caught on fire until they replaced the engine with a british one. Once they did that it became a killing machine.
the US needs an updated airforce because the current one is aging fast. the f35 fills the role and is a huge leap in technological capabilties

yea, its almost like the f35 is still in testing.
it also has equal or better performance than the f16 currently.
its a real good thing the military has people in charge who know whats good and what isnt, and dont have to listen to retards. Every country that was skeptical went in and had classified briefings about the f35's capabilities, and immediately signed on to buy them.

Want to fully grasp how far aviation has come in the last 100 years, visit an aviation museum. The planes of WWI were crudely built with wood, fabric, steel cowlings and engines that resemble what might be in a 1930's tractor. WWII was a great leap forward, with aluminum, rivets, and powerful internal combustion engines, still planes could barely approach 500mph in a dive. In Korea and Vietnam jets were the order of the day in fighters, but still the technology was rudimentary compared to later models, the Sabre and Phantom. If you look at them closely, they are still simple in their construction. The F-14, F-15, F-16, and F-18 belong to a transitional era between the older construction methods and today. They represented the first series of fighters designed on computers before they began construction. Stronger engines and avionics allowed them to dominate the skies of Iraq in 1991. Then came the stealth age, with the F-117 and eventually the B-2 bomber. Both were key in bringing about the 4th Generation fighters such as the F-22 and F-35. Look closely at an F-22 or F-35 and you'll see engineering brought to near perfection. The one thing that hasn't changed (yet) is the Fighter Pilot, still physically and mentally strong, sure of themselves and fast to react, the cutting edge of the warrior elite. This may be the last series of fighter aircraft to be piloted. The limitations of the design incurred by a human are holding back the performance they are capable of. The 5th Generation will like be unmanned fighters, so hail to the cutting edge and those who fly them. The future is just around the corner, so many advancements have taken place in the last 100 years, and we are just getting started.

I love how there is so much hate for this jet, yet half of the critics have no idea how the development plan of this jet was supposed to take place. So many of the original projections were.. at best, educated guesses. But with the current batch of developmental F35's, they have already hit the 100 million mark with the jet engine, and are well on their way to being the promised 83 million per jet.
If you trolls would actually do some serious research, you would know that the current fleet of about 160 F-35's were never meant to be mass produced units, rather, units to TEST AND PURPOSEFULLY BREAK THINGS so that when it DOES, AND IT WILL go into full production, it wont have the issues these EXPERIMENTAL F35' CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION IN SMALL BATCHES TO KEEP COSTS LOW, will have. It will be as close to flawless as you can get today with a jet aircraft.
This Jet has only suffered one, count them with your finger, ONE lost jet due to malfunction. No other jet in US HISTORY WHILE IN EXPERIMENTAL PRODUCTION has pulled that off. If you are taking Pierre's word for it that this is a "turkey" You are just as immature and a fake as he is.
IE, being a Defense Analyst, as Pierre is, DOES NOT EQUAL being an actual engineer actually designing and actually physically building the jet, which he did nothing of with the F16, or the A-10. He just has the disturbing childish habit of calling any project he is not a part of crap, or a Turkey.

F-22 I think will give the f-16 a run for it's money, granted the hornet and super hornet models that aren't the greatest, and I agree that out of every jet that has seen combat, there are none more successful then the F-16, but in a dogfight I think the F-22 would be just as good with the upgrades of all the newer computer tech including better jamming tech, the new fighter helmets with display on visor, and the multi-role platform... but I agree that the F-16 is one of most superior jets ever made, and the most replicated jet fighter by all of our allies because of it, so the counter-tech for fighter jets from Russia and China are now almost specifically built to counter and beat the f-16's strengths because it is the jet they would most likely go against in almost any conflict because the amount produced by U.S. and all of the rest of our allies have used the f-16 design for their front-line jets.

All of you arm chair generals are speaking out of your asses. You have no idea about Total Cost of Ownership. The fact is that the existing hardware is expensive to maintain. Many airframes were built in the 70s and 80s and are still being flown today. The whole idea is to replace many legacy attack/fighter aircraft with a single aircraft because there only needs to be a single supply chain, a single set of common parts, and parts engineered to last longer. The cost savings over 30 years will make all your arguments moot. Old planes have parts that are harder to acquire and therefore more expensive. Things that are handled electronically now were handled mechanically then, making the older parts heavier and more expensive. It's not just about the initial investment.
If you guys have any experience with manufacturing supply chains or logistics, you will know that if you have 20 different products all with parts that are not compatible with the other aircraft as well as different manufacturers who each have their own sub-suppliers and supply chain, it is horrendously expensive to manage.
Give it time, and the savings will show up.

Look the F-22 is a fine aircraft. I'd go so far as to say excellent. We should have bought more. I have trouble saying that about the F-35. Now I was in the Air Force and I did in shop avionic maintenance. So, while that makes me in no way an expert on aircraft, I do know the essentials.
I have researched the F-35 because I want to like this aircraft. Look how awesome it looks, and it's VTOL in one configuration. Yet... I cannot. The fact is, that it seems it's that incorporating VTOL into the design is what has made this aircraft less than it should have been. Making room for the VTOL fan meant that it could only be single engine, plus it made the wings narrower. From all reports I can find, it's sluggish in a climb, takes too long to turn, and just flat out doesn't have enough range or speed.
The F-22 has super cruise but the F-35 doesn't. Why? It would see to be something we would want but it cannot because of it's weight and single engine. It's range is less than the F-22, again because of weight. Even without the VTOL fan, it still has only one engine the body has been widened, the wings shortened and made more narrow on all models.
Again, I want to like this plane. I really want to. It's freaking beautiful. Yet, I am worried. The Chinese stole the plans and built the fighter the F35 should have been. Drop the VTOL, or make a different design for the Air Force and Navy. I know they leave out the VTOL for them but I am saying slim down the body, extend and strengthen the wings and add another engine.
Then we will have a game changer. The Chinese cannot match out avionics. Period. Nobody can. Not our jamming, not our stealth. Even with the designs they did not get a lot of the stuff that makes these planes stealthy. The special resins, and coatings etc. We can have an incredible aircraft, but unless they change it... I think we are going to only have an ok one. OK, is just not good enough for our military. Not at this cost in money, and the possible cost in lives.

All you have to do is fallow the reports on the F-35s testing and you will see that they are in production, testing is ahead of schedule and for the most part complete. Pilot training is in full swing. They will also be appearing at air shows starting in July of this year. They will be in full service in 2017. There was is no big push to rush it into service, Because the aircraft it is replacing are still in service and will be for some time, but they are not producing them anymore. You must understand that the F-35s are replacing at least four aircraft programs and is multi- national in use. The cost of the aircraft programs that the F-35s are replacing is very much less expensive that the total cost of those programs. The F-35s will give us the most technically advanced fighter in world and will serve us will for decades.

    • @robertsmith1434
      @robertsmith1434 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Josh Graham Well, the problem with your argument (which is essentially that the F-22 has no combat experience) is that it would involve... combat. Now personally I am not one to wish for combat to take place to test new weapon systems. It is being tested in it's bombing, penetration, and ground support roles, and by testing I mean killing people in those roles. So you want us to kill or start a war to test this air combat? That is essentially your argument you know. It has been tested in mock combat, but that's not good enough? It has essentially been tested in every way possible except actually killing other aircraft, but you want that too? Who should we kill I ask? Because it is not even a question against older fighters that the middle east might have. China? You would have us start a war with China to test an aircraft?
I hope you see the fallacy of your argument here.

mrjpb23 well, that's true. But $1 trillion over its lifetime sounds pretty good for what it is, cheaper than maintaining old fighter jets from the 70s. It is the most expensive program, like there is always a highest grossing movie. Over budget, behind schedule, like someone said, that's like every aircraft. The F18 was even longer, the last big issue was in 2000s. I would be very suprised if it was right on schedule and right on budget. But who cares? I'm just a idiot on the internet just like you

+Gung Ho Vids: As it seems the reply link no longer works and thus you seem to get the last say Ill add the following here...
Grew up in a Republican family back when the party still had real "moderates", common sense, and actually supported social programmes and ideals. The party went downhill in the 1980s when it first became wrapped up with the religious right and eventually turned into the group of right wing extremists we have today. As an axample of how far the party has swung, John Boehner is well to the right of being a true moderate, however he is considered so when compared to the rest of the party today.
Ike warned us of the dangers the Military Industrial Complex. posed when it came to involvement national policy. We never heeded that (and back then, it was the Democratic administrations which continued to promote it)
A Centtury ago another Republican Senator, Robert "Fighting Bob" LaFollette, embraced and promoted many of the ideals the party today vehemently opposes.
Not saying there weren't a few bad apples like Joe McCarthy, But today that seems to be the norm rather than the exception where the party is concerned.
      Back to the main discussion...
The F-35 is based on the Yak 41/141 concept (which Lockheed actually was a development partner in back in the early 90s). While it isn't a direct copy, much of the initial concept still comes from the Russian programme. My argument is it's not whether it is or is not superior in air to air engagement, it is more, is such a costly programme warranted while this nation is being allowed to fall apart (sometimes literally with regards to our infrastructure) from within and Congress seems loathe to address the fact?
The M-IC needs an adversary relationship with someone to continue justifying its existence. With the demise of the Soviet Union and Russia now an "ally" (as well as supposedly China), the new "enemy" has become international terrorism. Apoligies, but I don't see many terrorist groups flying around in advanced supersonic stealth jet fighters or using state of the art sensor/radar and missile systems.
As. slow, old, simple, and ugly as it may be, the A-10 has more than proven it's worth in the air to ground superiority role, a role which is most effective against terrorist groups.
This is the future of warfare, not big fleets of ships or fronts of armoured forces facing each other off. Global war today would be detrimental for everyone involved as economies are so intertwined and dependent on each other...
      ...and many nations know it.
We already saw the beginnings or this in Vietnam where we engaged a cunning enemy who didn't abide by the "standard" battlefield tactics and conventions which we were geared to deal with since WWII. This was a guerilla war, and we were totally ill equipped to fight it even given the might of our military machine back then. Terrorist groups use very similar tactics and don't care about something known as the Geneva Convention. They wage their fight by their rules just like the Vietcong did, not ours or that of some international; organisation'. They are not above using tactics like human shields which makes much of our heavy firepower (which the F-35 is part of) useless for fear of collateral civilian deaths.
We still have yet to learn the lesson Vietnam taught us that just throwing our military weight around does not necessarily mean "mission accomplished". One only has to look at who has been in control of Vietnam for forty years, or how much more unstable the Middle East has become today following the second iraq war.
Not living in the past, but I do accept that history can be a good teacher.

If you look up stats like top speed, handling etc it is trash compared to the new Russian sukoi su 35 for example. But it is so stealthy and other things that make it the best. The USA has a lot of other planes that rival su 35 in specs so if for some reason the stealth didn't work it doesn't matter.

Fadzilicious the F-35 was not designed to be a dog fighter, hence the lower specs compared to fighters that ARE designed for such combat, the F-35 is designed to be so stealthy that it will take out an enemy fighter before said enemy fighter even knows the F-35 is there, and i wouldn’t worry to much about its stealth capabilities being bad or anything, its already proven that its one of the most, if not the most, stealthy fighters ever built
