The more time that has passed with re watching through Naruto the more I feel this current arc may be the best arc of the entire series. It really is incredible, from the emotional journey to the character development that happens in this brief bit of time. There is obviously another arc down the road that is top notch and probably the highlight, but really, this arc is something special all on it's own (up there with the ver best of arcs in the entire series).

Kakuzu actually was very chill this episode. Everyone would have been dead if he actually wanted to do something. Instead they get some mourning-time and he´s just watching it like TV. And Asuma saying that it doesn´t matter now and asking for a last cigarette is a hint that he stopped smoking because of his kid. But well ... since he was going to die he could have a last cigarette without harming his child. Also Kakashi saying "I am taking a liking to you" is a throwback to one of the first episodes as he sees Team 7 and says with a smiling face: "Let me see ... I don´t like you".
Kishimoto is almost obscenely good at death scenes. They practically always hit hard even when it's with characters we don't know that well like Asuma and villains like Sasori. Even those few flashbacks and interactions made it clear just how close Asuma and the rest of Team 10 were with each other. I absolutely love when Naruto comes up with creative ways to deal with the problems he's facing. In terms of pure skill, he is completely inferior to the Fourth Hokage and Kakashi. However, he has such skill with Shadow Clones that he can cheat. It's really just an extension of the way he dealt with learning Rasengan, which just makes it all feel so cohesive.
This isn’t a spoiler because they never showed it in the anime due to being censored, but after asuma’s death. Shikamaru picked up smoking cigarettes in the manga. Every time you see him chilling and or holding the lighter is when he’s smoking
I almost want to say thank you about your genuine reaction when Ino is screaming. With your reaction it's even more heavy in a way. I'm glad you're really into it! That moment hit me hard back then cuz i'm really sensitive to emotions in voices (damn that Ino's voice actor, she's great).
Crunchyroll translations are so dumb sometimes. Shikamaru yells "Kono yaro ga..." at 2:32 which translates most closely to something like "You bastards..." (plural) but the sub says "You son of a gun!". 🤦♂

Jesus Christ i got teared up because i know what will happened but when Devi cried waterfalls i did too. This Scene is so emotional alone but Devi made this even more emotional. Cried alot. Dont feel sorry for showing emotions it makes us humans and since we got so much story with Asuma we can feel the extreme pain too. Love your honest reactions so much
When you couldn't wait for Naruto anime episodes every week and then you started reading manga for first time, then the first chapter you read is Asuma's death. That's me. Imagine the impact :(
I will tell you so much that, taking over the world, that's not the true goal of the akatsuki. It is in a way, but there actually a complete different plan going on that the akatsuki members don't know about. ( well ....most akatsuki members dont know, ....but some know the true plan, i wont tell you who )
I know you both feel like asuma was a nobody character up until now but you skipped the naruto filler arcs which actually had naruto joining other ninja teams so asuma and alot of characters got some character development during that time.
The first half of shippuden is most fans' favorite because the stakes were high! No one was safe: Gaara, who was unstoppable in part 1, now Asuma, and then 2 other characters who will be unnamed. The second half of shippuden...everyone's plot Armour became as thick as choji's BBQ tab
They are not going to collect asuma's body after their done sealing the two tail Jinchuriki, They're going back to their original mission which is to capture Naruto
