  • Gene Andrews dropped out of the inaugural Tarawera 100 Mile Endurance Run in 2018 at the Humphreys Bay aid station when his running partner and father-in-law tore connective tissue in his shin. Gene spent more than two years revisiting his failure before he came to understand the mental strength and commitment needed to run 100 miles and entered the 2021 Tarawera Endurance Run. This is the story of his race and how he sought to restore balance on the trails around Rotorua.
Gene's original film of the 2018 Tarawera 100 Mile Endurance run can be watched at • Tarawera 100 Mile Endu...

Congratulations such an achievement, I was the last finisher last year I suffered big time! as you said it’s the commitment of training and sacrifices. My family got me there at the finish. I wear my pounamu every day, it’s a journey and so special.

Congratulations on finishing Alison! I managed to make it to the end in 2019, and it was by far the hardest thing I have ever done.

Thanks Nate, watching Gene's vids of his runs got me into running Tarawera (I did my first 100k at Tarawera the year he DNF'd the 100 mile) so it was great to film his adventure and eventual success.

Thank you! I've got a cheeky 6 minute vid from a local half marathon I did with a mate on a whim at the weekend. Should be up in a couple of days.
