This is an old Russia made sub
it is small because of its battery propulsion system. This sub has already been decommissioned. Newer subs are bigger.
Whenever you address an armed forces personnel (Army, Navy and Airforce) it has to have a prefix before their name in form of rank. For eg- Lt Cdr Dhaval Lakhani, appointed as Navigating Officer. As per constitution of India under Article 18 even after retirement no one can take away their ranks and honors. So being a prestigious news channel who also shows lot of programs on constitution, I never expected this kind of insult can be made towards the sailors and sailor leaders.
Deepak Kumar Sahoo Full ranks are only *required* to be used by military personnel and generally are not used except under formal circumstances. It is not an insult to address a service member informally, except by a subordinate when the superior wishes to be addressed by full protocol.
Do all crew members have to speak English - or Hindi?

Sindhukesari is an older legacy submarine. I’d be interested to see the inside of a modern nuclear attack sub like the INS Arihant
Yes she's 35 years old now but has been extensively upgraded around 3 years ago to extend her life. She's a Kilo Class Diesel SSK Submarine
Also INS Arihant is a SSBN and not SSN. Currently India' has 2 operational SSBN,s and two more in the construction phase. India' currently doesn't operate a single SSN. However plans are in the pipeline to construct SSN,s indigenously.
Just check videos of American and Chinese submarines.
You will definitely find analog systems like this in them .

Great report and video. I was a U.S. Navy Independent Duty Hospital Corpsman on a U.S. Navy nuclear fast attack. Man, after watching this video, I have NO right to complain about tight quarters on my boat. That was a LOT of living in a small space. From one submariner to another ... well done ... be safe.

Excellent show. I have watched a lot of "submarine life" type documentaries like this and I have to say, that is the most cramped of modern submarines I've seen yet. It looks quite hazardous just navigating through the hull. But, you have 2 toilets! Very good show! It is certainly no place for a claustrophobic person.

Why did the reporter choose INS Sindhukesari? It was bought second hand from the Soviet Union way back in 1988. The maximum lifespan of a submarine is 25 years and this submarine is a grand dad (at least 55 years old) of all other submarines India has. The reporter should have chosen INS Kalvari or INS Khanderi or INS Karanj which are French made and are about 15 or 16 years old. But it is seems to be well maintained for an old submarine.

These are very old model subs... they're tiny... new ones are very very very big and spacious... their kitchens/dining areas are huge, very wide and open... I think new Arihant Sub of India is much bigger, stealthy, and advanced...
Arihant is world's smallest ballistic missile submarine. Bigger than this but I don't think they're spacious to accommodate larger kitchen & dining areas etc. Cause when it was made India had no nuclear ballistic missile carrying subs. Interestingly, the design was borrowed from India's Chakra - 2 class SSN. Hence, the design is small. A nuclear ballistic missile submarine has to have vertical launchers to add sufficient number of K-15 or, K-4 SLBMs. As I had said earlier that India possessed zero nuke ballistic sub then it was prioritized to carry more ballistic SLBMs than crews entertainment in order to quickly having a potent nuclear triad for Indian Armed forces. Carrying ballistic missiles & food for 90+ days to stay silently underwater are way more important than any other things.
