    You are without a doubt, the Leonardo of leather. What makes your work so good is that it doesn't go overboard or is garish. One time, General George Patton was asked whether the handles on his twin revolvers were made of pearl. His response:
    "Pearl? Only a pimp from a New Orleans whorehouse would use pearl - they're ivory."
    Quality craftsmanship speaks for itself and the artisan. Well done Maestro! ARS GRATIA ARTIS

      HA! That's great! There was a guy here in town, Carl Ziegler, who has since passed away, but he was General Patton's personal driver. He had some neat stories! Thank you Fred!

      @@MuskratOutdoors I had two neighbors who served in WWII. One was in the Pacific theater and the other in Europe. On hot summer evenings I'd sit on their front porch have a few beers and I could listen for hours as they regaled me with history. The guy from Europe would always show me a Lugar he took off a "dead Krout." The fellow you knew, Carl, must have had some great stories from General "Blood & Guts." I'm glad I took the time to get to know them. They were just kids when they joined up and became men real fast. Priceless.

      They are legal if you get the license to own them, we can only shoot them at a range tho not just anywhere in the bush unfortunately... my range is kinda busy and I get nervous leaving it on the counter while I’m shooting other guns hence the want of a holster...
      The 460XVR shoots .45 Colt, 454 Casul and 460 S&W all from the same cylinder... the 460 is about a 1/4” shorter in length than a 45-70 and has a 65k max chamber pressure, she barks but with the porting in the barrel it’s way less scary than a hot loaded 44 mag

    That holster looks sharp! I wasn't sure what you were going to do when you got close to the edge with the stamp. Tilting the stamp is probably basic, but for me that doesn't do it, it was a nice little trick! I like what you did with the belt loop strings too! I had an old baseball glove back in the day that probably could have used some of that leather oil. No amount of oil I tried could break that glove in though! How long was that process from beginning to end would you say?

    • @MuskratOutdoors
      @MuskratOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Total time was about an hour and a half of this one. More or less. Neatsfoot oil would probably have softened it. Some leather though, never does seem to soften up.

      @@MuskratOutdoors An hour isn't bad. It looks like it takes quite a bit longer! I think you're right about some leather not softening. I had a deer leather glove and that sucker was too soft. Man I've been doing leather for a while and never thought to cut out my leather with scissors! I get frustrated with basket stamping, but yours looks really good. I've only made one holster and it was for my .22 heritage revolver. How do you like your Tippman boss? I've been thinking about getting one but man are they proud of them.

    • @MuskratOutdoors
      @MuskratOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It takes a stout pair of scissors and they need to be sharp, but I like them better than a round knife. I bought my Tippman back about 1997 before the price went up so high. Over all, I like it, but it does have some problems. The cable inside the hand lever that controls the pressure foot has broken several times. Their warrantee has been good though and they fixed it. The last time it broke, they sent a redesigned cable that was better and it has lasted. Every now and then, it does jam, but I think I should clean it more often than I do. Also, the foot is supposed to lift each stitch, but doesn't anymore. Something is worn I think. I have used the heck out of it.. Hundreds of holsters, probably a dozen saddles, repair work.....it has had a lot of use and over all it has held up well. I like being able to go as slow as I want to also. Electric machines go too fast sometimes and are hard to control. The throat could be bigger too. Sometimes it's hard to fit stuff in it. I do like it and would buy it again though.

      @@MuskratOutdoors I read that your cable broke and im curious do they use a coated or just a bare cable ? A little trick I do with bare cables is I put a piece of duct tape on the outside of the cable sheath making a funnel then spray some Mac's Cable & Chain Lubricant down the cable kinda move it back and forth allowing it to soak into the cable. On coated cables I use a little bit of Macs just not as much. I have noticed it sure makes clutch cables, throttle cables, and really all cables last a really long time with no rust or corrosion issues. The Macs is a little waxy so I just wipe off any excess where dust/grime might get on the ends with a rag when I am finished. Thank you again for the great video.

I got my first Tandy Leather tool kit when I was around 10 years old. In the 1970's-80's I was into the black powder rendezvous and made a lot of stuff for that, but didn't really do a lot of tooling until I started full time cowboy/ranch work in the mid 1980's. I couldn't afford the stuff I wanted, so I made it. After awhile, other cowboys would say "Hey! Make me one". By mid 1990's I had a small saddle shop.
