Ha ha, thank you! I'm actually wearing the same shirt right now as I type this. Although the writing is much more faded now. I gave it to a hostel to wash while I was traveling in Africa, and when it came back it looked like they had really put it through the wringer. 😳
So fascinating Wendy, I hardly ever read or see content about Mozambique, let alone Mozambique Island, let alone vegan food on Mozambique Island! I loved learning about this dish and the piri piri sauce as well, can't wait to try that one day.
Looks like seaweed and I'm obsessed with seaweed! That recipe sounds amazing I wonder if I can duplicate it! Wish I could taste it to have a frame of reference 😊😊
Yeah, I think it counts as seaweed. It's a succulent plant that grows on the beach, so it's underwater at high tide but becomes exposed at low tide, and that's when the local women pick it. You can read more about it here: www.fondazioneslowfood.com/en/ark-of-taste-slow-food/siri-siri/
We're new to the channel. We just recently went Vegan (well Vegan-ish, I can't give up seafood), but this dish looks really good. Looking forward to more of your vids.
Thanks so much! This dish really was delicious. I've been concentrating mostly on blog articles lately, but I plan to get back to uploading videos soon. Stay tuned!
I'm not a vegan but that food does look very good and would definitely like to give it a try. Here in Wales, we are partial to a bit of seaweed as well.
I think it was around 350-400 meticais for a plant-based meal, so about $6 or $7. Animal-based foods were more expensive. You can also get local street food, which is ridiculously cheap. I've just published an article on my blog that shows some of the different types of street food there: www.thenomadicvegan.com/tasty-african-food/
Cany say i have any real experience with what good and whats not with vegan food. As far as it goes this looks good and i would certainly give it a try
Yes, it's a unique dish that's really worth trying! I don't know the exact protein content of siri siri, but there are many plants that are very good sources of protein. Getting enough protein on a vegan diet is really not hard, and in fact most Westerners eat TOO MUCH protein, which is the root cause of many of the most common health problems. There's a great book about this called Proteinaholic: proteinaholic.com/
No offense but according to scripture, people can eat the meat that is listed. I am a recent vegan also, but I tell people to eat according to scripture.

It's pretty interesting that you're able to find Vegan food wherever you go. I love my meat for better or worse but this Matapa stuff sounds delicious!
Did you think vegans would have to miss out on the seafood in Mozambique? Well, think again!
Wow looks so good and Mozambique looks so much natural beauty.Great video and just subscribed from Facebook vegan collab group.😊
Thanks Tommy! I'm subbed to your channel too. Mozambique is certainly full of natural beauty!
Food looks so tasty! Thank You for such an informative video! ☺️
Sounds like an awesome trip! Happy you found something great to eat.
Totally! I loved Mozambique, and the food there too.
The food sounds and looks amazing!!!
Thanks, it was really good!
OMG I am SALIVATING!!! My aunt is from Kenya and this reminds me a lot of her dishes and it’s seriosuly some of my favorite food in the world!
How cool! I can imagine that Kenyan food would be very similar.
Trying out local cuisine is my favorite. This looks so good!
Yes, I love trying out local cuisines too! I always manage to find at least a few vegan dishes.
Have heard great things about Mozambique and I'm looking forward to getting there eventually! Glad to see there's great food options for everyone.
Yes, I definitely recommend it! It's a beautiful country with very friendly people.
So cool learning about food from different countries!! :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks so tasty! Amazing that you got to visit Mozambique - I would love to get there one day!
Thanks! Yeah, it's an incredible country. Just takes a lot of patience to get around!
There are plenty of veggies in the sea!!! (Love your T-shirt!)

That looks delicious! Love that the local dish can be made vegan- we'd definitely try it!
Yeah, in fact this dish is vegan more often than not! Some cooks add shrimp to it, but usually it's fully plant-based.
So fascinating Wendy, I hardly ever read or see content about Mozambique, let alone Mozambique Island, let alone vegan food on Mozambique Island! I loved learning about this dish and the piri piri sauce as well, can't wait to try that one day.
You're right, there's not a lot out there about Mozambique! It's a really beautiful place -- an undiscovered gem.
defiantly not a vegan, but have started to dabble in alternative foods and im loving it, again great fun facts!
I've always wanted to go to Mozambique! It's good to know that vegans can eat well in the region.
Yes, for sure! It's a fascinating country. Takes some patience to get around, but it's well worth it.
You just made me hungry, would love to try that! :)
Ha ha, sorry not sorry. 🤷♀️It's really delicious!

I loveeee spicy food! It all looks delish :)
So do I!
I'm not a vegan but that food does look very good and would definitely like to give it a try. Here in Wales, we are partial to a bit of seaweed as well.
That's good to know! Are there any particular types of seaweed, or dishes that use seaweed, that I should look out for in Wales?
I loved all the info with your video :D It was super interesting, and that dish looks absolutely DELISH

Glad to hear you're open to trying it. And I'll bet you've eaten a number of vegan meals in your life without realizing it!
Oh it looks so good. I would definitely try it. Love the music at the beginning and end too
Thanks! It really is delicious.
This has made me so hungry. The Siri Siri sounds interesting although I need more protein.

Vegan seafood. That sounds different. Not for the spicy sauce.
Yeah, well, it's food from the sea, and it's vegan! 😉

I'm not a religious person, so I'm not going to get into a religious discussion here. It has nothing to do with the video.
