There are two types of advertising: One to sell stuff and the other to increase brand recognition. This map is obviously for the latter. You play a fun, free map with your friends and create good memories associated with the brand. Like when you get the small rush getting a coin (with their logo on it)
I love how most people are like “I will pronounce it in both ways to make everyone happy” but Toycat is like “I will pronounce Elytra both ways to upset everyone”. Kind of says something about his point of view on life
Not gonna lie, the map looks fun and very entertaining. The only issue, is that providing/assuming that everyone or the majority of people who play the map are going to visit your site and buy something is 90% unreliable.
I think it’s to try and help the image too. Trying to get people to think « ah yes, the brand that did the huge minecraft map thing. Pbly trying to build sympathy or just getting attention too
The whole point of this is for younger generations to say to their friends "wow minecraft did something with lacoste, that's pretty unexpected" And just like that you talked about lacoste when you had no reason to. It's a really smart advertising campaign and to them 10000$ is absolutely nothing, the overall operation was definitely worth millions
This is actually a really nice map. Feels almost like an open world out of some early 2000s game. Lacoste just bought a map but whoever designed it did a nice job
I don't mind this form of advertising. Big crocodile aside, it's not too in your face or obtrusive. More companies should consider sponsoring this kind of content, and getting their brand incorporated into video games in this kind of way. Plus they are advertising to children who will grow up recognising the brand from "that cool Minecraft map" that they played with their friends, so if anything Lacoste are advertising now for future sales in the next 5-10 years.
I looked at their online shop, and honestly, I think they'll probably get their money's worth, considering the cost of their clothing, especially because its a fashion company.
They should have programmed the npc's to recognize Toycat, and adjust their cheering to a more godly tone of enthusiasm. Cheering ibx in the default way is not yes.
For an advertising campaign it's pretty worth the potential 10-30k from the budget. It reaches a massive audience for only the cost of paying builders and maybe expenses for putting it on the store, associates the brand with being fun and cool and gets people (like you) talking about it, which helps reach even more. Beforehand me and probably a good lot of other viewers never heard of the brand but now we have thanks to videos about the map, meaning that a seed has been planted in our heads and maybe it'll get some of us to choose them over a competitor solely because we're more familiar with em. Whoever decided on that minecraft advert campaign deserves a pat on the back and a nice sammich from the upper guys
I think this is actually a pretty smart form of marketing: Lacoste influences people directly and indirectly to prefer their brand over another one. Even after only seeing this video many people (including me) will have Lacoste in mind the next time they go shopping. I actually almost "forgot" this brand existed until I saw this video in my sub box and then remembered how good the Lacoste shirts were I once had (not an ad btw). It's actually crazy how much this kind of marketing will influence your unconscious decision when buying clothes. Even if you see this map while you're still too young to buy your own clothes you keep this brand in mind and connect something positive with it which will eventually influence your behaviour as a future (potential) customer. And I think there's no doubt this map will get a lot of downloads, because it will definetly attract the interest of many players for the reason that its a big company getting a map made for Minecraft and its free to download. (I could go on further about this but I dont wanna leave a 20 page essay on this topic in your comment section bc. no one will actually read that and I'm no native speaker)
They missed the perfect name for the island, Croco Isle! How do you miss an opportunity like that, it was literally right there. They were so, _so_ close.
Such a cool map that will totally get 7-11 year olds to buy Lacoste clothing! To be honest, though, the map is neat, the NPCs are well done, but I feel this was a waste of money on Lacoste's part.
No chance, but since they plan on kids having fun on this map (for free), it’s basically marketing for long term consumers with that Lacoste map they played all those years being stuck in their head, overall idk man, all that’s really beneficial from all of this is a free map in a wasteland of scummy scams that is the mc marketplace
I mean, it's a huge ass company, 10k is like nothing for them if it means even the slightest amount of advertising. I will even admit that i kinda forgot about their existence before they made the map so at least it may help them staying relevant today.
To your point about 'not sure how Minecrafters are a segment for LaCoste' -- they may not be, but this isn't just advertising for an MC map. Your video alone was a 30k user advertisement for them. Because you did this map, how many more views will it get on the store? How many twitch streams? How many youtube videos and/or speedruns? If Lacoste thinks their market is low in the teen-twentysomething gamer market... guess what - you are part of the vehicle to increase that share.
It seems to be pretty much the same strategy as companies who will purposefully do controversial things to get people talking about a product/service(cough cough those grubhub commercials) but instead in a much much more positive way that really just benefits everyone involved, wish more companies took this route to be honest
Well, because they did this, I’ll go buy some clothes from them. This is pretty awesome! I mean I’ve always had a few of their shirts over the years, but I’ll make an effort to go grab some more since they did this.
I was today years old when I found out crocodiles sold cloths. In all seriousness, I guess we don't have this in Canada and as such I'm getting this for ABSOLUTE free because it's not like I could get crocodile cloths anyway.
@@julesthecat. I looked it up after reading your comment and I guess there's like 2 stores in my area (Edmonton), so I'll still say it's basicly free lol.
Ok so this is a great map, because I am a technical Java player, I have nothing in common or interest with bedrock or the marketplace etc but somehow I still watched and enjoy that. So GG Lacost I guess :)
If Blockception can create a map with animated characters such as this, then they should definitely team up with companies like disney to make story oriented maps. I would actually buy a Minecraft map if they had genuinely interesting storylines.
Dang this map looks great and my opinion is totally not bias at all. Imagine if Blockceptions server had a racing game. If they did I bet they could make an amazing donut kart for doing donuts while racing on a donut themed map. Hypothetically of course
Hi Toycat, I know you're trying to improve your click through ratio, but this title is slightly misleading. It's a free map regardless of what the cost of goods sold is. Perhaps you could change it to something like "This Map Cost $10,000 To Make," or "They Spent $10,000 Making A Minecraft Map"
I was bewildered yesterday when i saw their retail store selling blocky crocodile Minecraft T-shirt, which is probably the most stereotypical Boomer brand attempt on appealing to kids, despite they don't have any identity to share with gamer (Lacoste is culturally related to Tennis, not video games) ; this campaign reminds me the time when Louis Vuitton did collab with Final Fantasy for... some reason? I mean, now i can show the world how a middle aged man with Asperger look like in the public, if that is what they wanted. .
