Dr. Anshul Gupta MD is Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician, with advanced certification in Functional Medicine, Peptide therapy and also fellowship trained in Integrative Medicine.
He has worked at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Department of Functional Medicine as staff physician alongside Dr. Mark Hyman. He believes in empowering his patients to take control of their health and partners with them in their healing journey.
He now specializes as a thyroid functional medicine doctor, and help people reverse their unresolved symptoms of thyroid dysfunction.
Conventional medicine doesn’t have all the answers for a vast majority of patients suffering from chronic diseases and that’s where a Functional Medicine model can be helpful.
Dr. Anshul Gupta experienced this himself when his acid reflux, weight issues, fatigue, brain fog, eczema, allergies, skin problems, fatty liver couldn’t be handled by the conventional medical approaches.
Dr. Gupta then utilised the concepts of Functional Medicine and reversed his diseases. He was not only able to get off all his medications but was able to lose weight, got unlimited energy and mental clarity which was sustainable and not a short fix to his problems.
This reversal of his own disease motivated Dr. Anshul Gupta to become a Functional Medicine expert himself.
You can read his personal journey, on what inspired him to share the concepts of Functional Medicine with people so that they can heal from within.
Dr. Gupta completed his Family Medicine residency at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis. During this training, he also did an Integrative Medicine track where Dr. Anshul Gupta first learned about what Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine Practitioners do. How the concepts of holistic medicines like these are used in managing chronic diseases, especially functional medicine for thyroid.
His passion for working with underserved people lead him to the Northern Neck area of Virginia, where he worked for 5 years and provided services to the locals. He tried to incorporate a holistic approach with his care and his patients were always appreciative for it. He was voted the Best Doctor in Northern Neck 2018 by the Northern Neck news.
Dr. Gupta next worked at Cleveland Clinic Functional Medicine Department. Upon becoming a Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) Certified Practitioner, you can visit Dr. Gupta’s IFM profile, to learn about all medical conditions Dr. Gupta treats as a Functional Medicine doctor.
He also believes that knowledge is power and wants to educate people about a healthy lifestyle.
As a functional and integrative medicine expert, Dr. Gupta is on a mission to help more than 1 million people to reclaim their health back.
Anshul Gupta MD is one of the very few thyroid functional medicine doctors who are providing consultation to people to help them with unresolved symptoms due to thyroid dysfunction. He tries to work with his patients to work on their core imbalances by developing an individualized plan which focuses on a specific diet plan, movement, and stress reduction.
Dr.Gupta is a proud father of 2 lovely children, and a lucky husband to his adorable wife. His wife is a blogger and is raising awareness and helping so many parents with concepts of respectful parenting. During his free time, he loves to travel, hike, meditate and practice yoga.

I discovered I had a thyroid issue when I ended up in a mental health facility. They started me on medication there. My TSH was almost 800. My regular dr at the time refused to give me a referral to an endo he said "I can fix it myself". After doing some research about hypothyroidism, I learned about Hashimotos and asked my doc to do more through bloodwork. He snarked back at me "why? Why are you going to waste tax payers dollars when you aren't working on testing when it doesnt matter. Its treated the same anyways." I had recently left my job at the time due to mental health, I was working in a group home, but I needed to take care of myself for a while, and yes I was on Medicaid. He was very very judgmental about that. Allllways brought up about being off work and made me feel like Shit about it. I LOVED my job. It was not an easy choice. He ended up giving me the lab order anyways and my antibodies were astronomical. When I went in for the follow up appt, he was like its a good thing I sent you for blood work, you have incredible amount of antibodies. You must feel awful. That was probably the only visit I ever felt validated with him. Over the next few years, I would go back to him complaining of debilitating fatigue, mental health was in check, I wasnt depressed, like I WANTED to be productive but at the time, even just getting my kids off to school in the morning required a nap afterwards, and sometimes Id just fall asleep right in the driveway for like 30m bc I couldnt even bring myself into the house. The weird part is that when I take my medication regularly, and my levels are "normal" I am more fatigued than when I lapse on my medication and thats part of the reason I skip it sometimes. I shared with him about what I was experiencing, and he made it all about mental health, and when I tried to advocate that I wasnt depressed, but WAS getting hard on myself about not being able to get going during the day, like what happened to the go go go getter I was? Where did she go? He then lectured me about drugs, (Ive never struggled with addiction) and said "I am a doctor, I will always find out" I kept saying I dont do drugs! He pointed at my scars and said "then how did you get those?" Because you know, if a person has self harmed, they MUST be an addict appearantly... But I was growing angry because I didnt understand how the conversation turned into all that. By the end of it he started insinuating I was making it up about being so fatigued bc my levels were fine. Honestly, Ive lost a lot of faith in the medical community... I started doing my own research, I went gluten free- vegan and after a few months, it was night and day how I felt. My thyroid is still wonky, and I wish I could crack the code, and now I am learning about the autoimmune focus instead of purely thyroid focus... This whole process had been a roller coaster, but Im determine to figure out what helps me completely. I appreciate videos like this so much. It feels very isolating and crazy making when Drs dont believe you, or blame mental health instead just because Theres a history. Its insulting to my recovery.

Great job in constantly pursuing your diagnosis! I’ve been on a similar journey and it’s taken me 3 years to get thyroid meds when my T3 was so damn low! It’s been very frustrating! Finally seeing an endocrinologist and even had to beg there for help! I hate hypothyroidism! And menopause is no joke! Thanks for sharing. Your story helped me. Blessings and good health wished for you.

That was such a good talk. Everyone says you cant heal from hashimotos. So at last someone to say you can heal and tells us why it happens and the list of triggers and causes. And the list to eat and vitamins and minerals we need. I am applying all these things he said for over 2years now and l have reversed hashimotos, l applied everything l learned from mc dougall , neal barnard peter rogers and all the other doctors . But this guy put it simply. Thankyou so much for having people like him give talks.

No l am not on any medication . I have a pita bread it has a bit of gluten in it. once a week other than that l use oat flour to make pancakes and l freeze some. And reheat in the toaster. I make my own treats and freeze some. I exercise each day with a few weights. I changed my diet to whole food plant based . No oils meat dairy or processed foods. I do have a little bit of iodised salt at the table . Vitamin B once a week . A Brazil nut for selenium some. I use filtered water. I had 1tbs flaxseed on breakfast to help lower inflammation. I did a 2 cup green smoothie daily for 1 and half years . That brooke Goldners does. I try to do the things Peter and mc dougall ,Joel Fuhrman, Neal Bernard say in their talks. It took a year but levels are back in normal range.

Once you are initiated to the world of stimulation by coffee/ caffeinated beverage "goodness" you start developing a strong addiction where you need more of it to reach the same level of stimulation as the time passes. Finally becomes something like wearing a tight shoe to be able to feel relaxed everytime you remove that tight shoe

More starch means more carbs easily deposited in body which affect the liver functionality. A lot of people these days have fatty liver too. Now, liver converts 60-80% of T4 hormone to T3 (the active form). If you suppress liver functionality by eating too many carbs (particularly easily absorbed and digested ones, i.e. starch) then T3 will again be impacted. So, that's why he recommended so. But if you still eat rice, etc. (which most of us need to do), eat brown form instead and for the starch part, exercise enough so that the body does not store a lot. Look up Keto diet details

There's only one question that is still left unanswered for me regarding fasting. I heard that it can lead to gallbladder stones formation (Valter Longo), have you heard more information about this? Really would like to do some form of fasting, given so many benefits but wouldn't like to end up with the gallbladder problems...❤

I have had Hypothroidism for 18 years. Recently I learned from an online doctor that it is Hashimotos. Any how mine is caused by estrogen dominance in which I always suspected. I’m extremely disappointed in my Naturopath doctor whom just gave me cookie clutter medicine and sent me on my way. I have recently discovered Forefront health and I am seeing improvement, but I haven’t been 100% on my diet and life style. Now I’m choosing to get on track. Also I’m choosing to to my estrogen levels test n my own with a urine test since that is more accurate than a blood test. Ugh! My stupid naturopath told me that since I know longer got my period that my estrogen was no longer an issue! Lie, lie, lie,! Blood work is not a reliable way to test estrogen since estrogen tends to collect in the tissues. Also nothing could be further from the truth! Just because you don’t get your period anymore, it doesn’t mean that your estrogen dominance immediately stops!

I use to think peanuts were inferior, but after enrolling in MUIH Human Clinical nutrition program and filling out my mineral tables for micronutrients class, I realized how many minerals and micronutrients peanuts have. Finally a Dr brings up the food connection. I will tell the Drs I have allergies and bloat quickly after eating gluten and sugars and they always reply most people do not. Most people are not in the oom only I am. I have an allergist who said I belong in a bubble. I have two dogs one husky, and a cat I am now allergic to. Had twins which is when I was not abel to lose weight. My Dr asked why I was getting fat.. I was probably 130 at the time.. lol I believe the foods are the issue. Very little I am not allergic to. Pollens, foods, metals, gold, nickel, lead, silver nitrate, benzyl alcohol, palladium chloride, ferric choloride, formaldehyde. Most Drs are not aware of the impact. I was just put on np thyroid, labs really are border for being bad. Maybe gee get rif of teh allergy causing issues. To boot I have a disabled adult daughter and another who is an artist 16, with sleeping issues, iron issues. Stress is physical emotional and chemical happening to me. I am tested as allergic to wheat, corn, soy, dairy, etc.. I think the only thing I was not allergic to was shrimp but I think it has an element I am sensitive too. Some greens make my gut turn with cramps and others are fine.. Research on my own needs to happen. Thanks.

Well I am a male, taking 175mcg for hashimotos, diagnosed 14 years ago and I know guys like me around. I guess the issue is more related to the lack of commercial interest of big pharma corporations as the supplements and diet programs cannot be patented for high profit margins as well as the lack of interest of academia in the deeper research of this matter, as it may not guarantee a nobel prize. So probably academic opportunism & hardcore capitalism seem to be the usual suspects here, rather than a gender inequality issue
