Exactly , being a friend doesn't mean you have to be supportive of stupid stuff. He had to be mean because Phoebe didn't accept that she had to give the cat away even when Ross told her about the missing cat. I would be really annoyed if i have to apologize to phoebe for this shit😂.

@@bilalhussain_bb I just think that Ross was being disrespectful to Phoebe and her spirituality, for she was using it as a coping strategy. I don't think it's funny how the show makes jokes of Phoebe's terrible childhood (mother committing suicide, deadbeat dad, stepfather in prison, living on the streets with strangers at the age of 13 or 14, never going to high school or college) and how Ross brags about he was the golden child and is the most intelligent, tearing others down in the process (Rachel's fashion career, Monica's childhood obesity, Joey's lack of booksmarts or Chandler having some links to his feminine side). I don't wish any hardships or violence towards David Schwimmer, he is a gifted comedic actor but it is utterly infuriating to see his character so egotistical and obnoxious not open his mind more often. If you disagree with me, that's okay. To each his own.

I just came here to read supportive comments about Ross.
Made me angry when he was not just left alone in this but aslo put into even worse position by Rachel.
He was right and everyone knew it, and no, there was nothing wrong with his tone, especially in the beggining, when he just pointed out that the cat belonged to a little girl and Phoebe still decided to keep it. And yes, afretwards he had to be more firm.
It's just not fair to depict him as a bad guy, because, you see, he "wasn't supportive".

Yeah, it’s easy to be rational when you’re not the one who is going through the emotional situation. Ross is a little bitch of emotions when he gets his own feelings hurt though. Let’s not forget that he made out with Chandler’s mom when he was upset about Rachel and Paolo and slept with another women when he was upset about Rachel and Mark.

Everyone in the group is too emotional. Not a fan of Ross, not really a fan of FRIENDS either.

Unless you’re a sociopath or psychopath, emotions get the better of all humans. It’s a part of being a human being. Stoicism is a skill that has to be practiced. No person is born with the ability to overpower all of their feelings, to simply flip a switch when they are going through emotional moments. Regaining rationality in moments of high emotion takes time.

I very clearly made it obvious that Ross was rational 'here', I didn't say that he is always the rational one. Just because you relate with Phoebe does not make her right, neither does it make Ross wrong here.
It's easy to be rational at any time, even when you're in emotional distress. It's not as tough as people think it is. You just have to remove yourself from the equation and try not to take it personally. Essentially, have a thicker skin.
We, as a people have become so tolerant and sensitive that the smallest thing offends us. It's sad really.
P.S - Do not conflate anti-social personality to psychopathy or sociopathy. Psychopaths and sociopaths are charming, or unassuming people, born with a developmental disorder and cannot regulate it or learn how to. They instead adapt and pretend to be normal. Anti-social personality disorder on the other hand is environmental in nature. In the company of the right people, anti-social people can be quite social, although it tends to drain them quickly. It's a common misconception.

      @signalfire15 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@johnnk3256 I am saying, in THIS SPECIFIC MOMENT, Phoebe is the one who is going through the emotional distress and Ross is the one who is not. So it's easy to remain rational when you are not the one who is going through the emotions. However, Ross has proven before that he does NOT maintain rationality when he himself goes through emotional moments, so he should have been more understanding of Phoebe in this moment. One could also make an argument that Ross was not being rational in this moment, that him yelling at Phoebe was driven by anger and annoyance at Phoebe. I never tried to justify that Phoebe was right here, nor did I write that I relate to Phoebe. I brought up Ross's past to stress that Ross is not a rational person when he goes through emotional situations so his attitude towards Phoebe here lacked compassion considering that he reacts the same way she does to emotional situations. Your comments are making wild assumptions about a person who you are talking to online and you come off as very self-righteous and a know-it-all. It is not easy to be rational at any time and it's certainly not easy to be rational when you are going through emotional distress. Those are skills that need to be practiced. You must not have a lot of interaction with real life human beings. I also study psychology so I don't need you to educate me about sociopathy and psychopathy. I know they are disorders that cannot be regulated which is why I wrote that the only people who can control their emotions when going through emotional situations are sociopaths and psychopaths, because they do not mentally function in the same way as the average human being. The neural pathways that regulate their responses to emotional situations are not the same. They don't feel the weight of the emotions. The average person would be overwhelmed by emotions in an emotional moment. To deny that is to deny science and the way that the BRAIN FUNCTIONS.

This is sad. Phoebe is so hurt by her mother’s death that she’s willing to do anything to convince herself she isn’t gone

Poor Ross, Phoebe took him to town on the cat mum thing but that wasn't his point. His point, which he tried to say gently and respectfully, was that it was now a little girl's cat. It was only when Phoebe refused that he had to get serious. The fact that the whole gang let him down on telling Phoebe the score, then Rachel and Monica were in the background laughing at him as he was taken to task as if this was about him never wanting to be wrong just never lands for me. The whole episode is like Phoebe having a mental breakdown and everyone realising it yet no one says it until Ross even comes close only to get roasted for saying the truth. Very odd joke after the first watch.

Exactly. He was the only one who wanted to do the right thing. It's mind boggling how, for whatever reason, the episode seemed to think that he was the bad guy

Ross was right. A friend does not just blindly follows you and enable you when you're in the wrong or misguided or destructive. Phoebe had a rough childhood, but she is a grown woman. The cat has an owner. Julio the cat is not her mother reincarnated. There's a girl waiting for her cat. Rachel of course has to chime in and tell Ross a grown man to apologize to a cat. Poor Ross. Must be hard being the only sane one in the group at times.

I'm with Ross on this one. I mean maybe the cat does possess Phoebe's mother spirit but it still belongs to another to a little girl. I mean imagine how much she misses him. Phoebe would actually rather let a little girl go unhappy then give up the cat

The reason why Ross is the most mature one in this case is because he is the most scientific and logical one. Being a scientist, of course he finds the concept of reincarnation complete nonsense. He has principles and sticks to them, unlike the other four who probably think the same but do not feel as strongly therefore don't feel the need to defend it.
That being said, every group needs at least one Ross; one who always thinks rationally and is not afraid to make the tough calls.
