One time my wife and I were out shopping. We decided to get some pizza so we stopped at an ATM and withdrew 20 bucks. We went and ordered a pizza and it cost 18 and change. He then proceeded to give me change for a 50. I told him that it was a twenty and showed him my ATM receipt. He STILL insisted that I gave him a 50!! As we were going back and forth, I noticed a sign behind him on the wall which it said: Rules of this establishment are 1) THE BOSS IS ALWAYS RIGHT 2) SEE RULE NUMBER 1. 9:40 just for some info the state of Delaware, Alaska, Oregon, New Hampshire and Montana do not have sales tax. They make up for it by paying a little extra in S&H
As an alaskan i can tell you we dont use state tax here. and usually if its an alaskan resident visiting other states we can have our state taxes in some states removed. most dont know or even think about alaska and thats why we only had 200 people come down with covid and are opening up in a few days
I worked in a small store on a military base and we constantly told the visitors the souvenirs were in the main building across the street. Only military personnel could buy at our supply store. Also, because we were so small and shared half the building with security forces, our bathrooms were private. We told people they had to go across the street. After a big graduations, the fire department came in and said we were over capacity and half of the families would have to leave the store. A customer then came to me and said there was a smell out of our only dressing room and the door had been closed for a bit. I opened the door and BOTH were in the corner. Closed the door, put a DO NOT ENTER sign on the door, and called the mains tore for clean up ASAP. WTF people?
That last story you told here reminded me of a customer who told my friend that for a penny he would be getting a 5 year warranty on his new TV... Guy didn't want it and my friend just walked away the sale because of the stupidity. All associates were weirded out by it.
Regarding the tax-a friend of mine took a call from a retail manager once about tea. The box of tea rang up and of course, with the tax. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP: The customer told the manager, that he should not have tax charged because of the Boston Tea Party. Yes...just think about that for a while.
The guy with the sales tax might have been from a state with no sales tax like Montana or New Hampshire. I am from NH and I bought a few things up in Maine and I was confused why the price increased when I bought the items in question. I was a bit more understanding when the clerk told me about the sales tax because I totally forgot that was a thing in pretty much every other state.
The amount of times someone shit in the dressing rooms in my 7 years of working at Kohls would shock and amaze you. I was folding shirts in the men's section and a customer came up to me. I worked at a little hotel in Alaska, in a tourist town, for a summer. We got people from all over the world and it was a bit eye opening, both good and bad. One group of ladies from Germany came in late one night, I ring them up for their rooms. Give them the price, and one of them is shocked it's more than advertised. I wasn't sure what she was talking about at first, then realized it was the added tax, so I reminded her of the sales tax thinking nothing of it. Smiling all the while of course. She got angry at me because of it! She started ranting about "Americans" having no idea how to "run things," and how it should be illegal to charge a different price than advertised. I didn't have any choice but to hold my ground, stand at the counter, and listen to her rant. She literally asked me why I wasn't personally fighting this "insane policy" in my government. By now even her friends were trying to restrain her a little, because OBVIOUSLY the young girl working the counter on a night shift isn't going on a political campaign about sales tax just because they don''t add it in Germany. Then there was the lady who walked in while I was doing the daily audit at 4am asking me if I'd found Jesus. I was exhausted and had to do the audit twice because of the ancient DOS computers messing up, and asked if he was going to help me with my audit! (I didn't say it meanly, more like "I wish he'd show up and help me, lol!"). She got MAAAAAAAD, lol!
I had a customer the other day using his trolley cart as a tank and just demolishing our sign that we used to block off some closed registers at my store. When I told him they were closed he became angry. When I told him the cash register right next to him was open he became angrier. When I then didnt say anything more because we were closing and I didnt want to waste time arguing with a mental patient he became angriest. My Store manager told him he needed to calm down and that I had just told him the facts but he was going to report us to the authorities for something or other. I told the security guard to toss him out but he wouldnt. All the while his kid sat in the cart and watched his dad making a complete fool of himself over nothing.
About the sales tax, that's a US thing, here in Mexico tax is included in the listed price, the first time I went as a tourist to the US I also had a reaction to the price, they explained to me the tax sales but It was obvious I was a tourist so they didn't make a big deal of it so I just paid and learned something new.

I worked at a gamestop in Northern Alabama. It was my first week and a lady came in to buy RE4 on GameCube. It's i was ringing it up she said she would pay with credit. I asked to see her ID and the names didn't match. I told her I could sell her the game using that card. She said it was her roommates card and that she was in the car. I asked if she could come in and flash her ID and the transaction would be done. This really big woman came in and started screaming at me for not letting her girlfriend use her card. I said that if she showed her ID I could finish the sale. She cursed me out some more as I gutted the game and left the case to be put back out. Then they left while my manager was laughing his butt off. Good times.

Canada and some European countries list the added sales tax into the listed price. So all you pay is what is listed. USA is actually one of the only countries that hit you with a hidden tax that isn't listed in the price.

Yo, I got a poop story. I was a bagger at a now defunct grocery chain in Ohio back in 2001, my senior year in high school. And at this particular store Bagger basically meant it's your responsibility to do everything and fill in everywhere. Now my dad was a manager at other stores and was often a fixer of sorts, and we was always roasting the manager of my store for it being poorly run. Anyway, one night about 15 minutes until it's time for me to leave the desk manager calls me back to the middle store restrooms. I go back and leaking into the actual store is the toilet water, full of dirty diarrhea water. Someone had clogged it and just left. She said "you need to get a bucket and mop and clean this up." keep in mind there is about an inch of crap water floating into the store because there is a dip right outside the restroom i'm guessing for this very situation, but no drain. I told her "no, I leave in 15 minutes and there's crap in there." she told me "someone has to do it." I told her "well it's not gonna be me." she looked totally confused and that I wouldn't wade through crap water 15 minutes before leaving for 5.15 an hour. I just turned and walked away. Turns out the store hired people in to clean stuff like that. Something she should have known. I have all kinds of work stories. Don't miss being healthy enough to do it. Anyway at the same store I once trailed and profiled the undercover police officer, that no one told me sometimes came in. I reported him for suspicious activity, caused a bit of an issue. Seriously how good are you if a 18 year old kid can spot you and you look shady af?

I worked at a little hotel in Alaska, in a tourist town, for a summer. We got people from all over the world and it was a bit eye opening, both good and bad. One group of ladies from Germany came in late one night, I ring them up for their rooms. Give them the price, and one of them is shocked it's more than advertised. I wasn't sure what she was talking about at first, then realized it was the added tax, so I reminded her of the sales tax thinking nothing of it. Smiling all the while of course. She got angry at me because of it! She started ranting about "Americans" having no idea how to "run things," and how it should be illegal to charge a different price than advertised. I didn't have any choice but to hold my ground, stand at the counter, and listen to her rant. She literally asked me why I wasn't personally fighting this "insane policy" in my government. By now even her friends were trying to restrain her a little, because OBVIOUSLY the young girl working the counter on a night shift isn't going on a political campaign about sales tax just because they don''t add it in Germany.
Then there was the lady who walked in while I was doing the daily audit at 4am asking me if I'd found Jesus. I was exhausted and had to do the audit twice because of the ancient DOS computers messing up, and asked if he was going to help me with my audit! (I didn't say it meanly, more like "I wish he'd show up and help me, lol!"). She got MAAAAAAAD, lol!

I had a customer the other day using his trolley cart as a tank and just demolishing our sign that we used to block off some closed registers at my store. When I told him they were closed he became angry. When I told him the cash register right next to him was open he became angrier. When I then didnt say anything more because we were closing and I didnt want to waste time arguing with a mental patient he became angriest. My Store manager told him he needed to calm down and that I had just told him the facts but he was going to report us to the authorities for something or other. I told the security guard to toss him out but he wouldnt. All the while his kid sat in the cart and watched his dad making a complete fool of himself over nothing.
About the sales tax, that's a US thing, here in Mexico tax is included in the listed price, the first time I went as a tourist to the US I also had a reaction to the price, they explained to me the tax sales but It was obvious I was a tourist so they didn't make a big deal of it so I just paid and learned something new.

Also, after having worked at Canadian Tire, all of these stories are more than believable, especially the poo and violence related ones. I could never understood how we, a group of people who in my opinion did right by our customers for the sake of normality got yelled at and threatened so often over the slightest things that were largely out of our control, not to mention finding poo and trash, regardless of how many garbage cans and washroom signs were in the store.

Retail has the weirdest people. I was going to save this person $80 on their purchase of clothing by just adding an e-mail (which they can just cancel 5 seconds after they walk out and i told them that), OBVIOUSLY they declined.

I worked at a gamestop in Northern Alabama. It was my first week and a lady came in to buy RE4 on GameCube. It's i was ringing it up she said she would pay with credit. I asked to see her ID and the names didn't match. I told her I could sell her the game using that card. She said it was her roommates card and that she was in the car. I asked if she could come in and flash her ID and the transaction would be done. This really big woman came in and started screaming at me for not letting her girlfriend use her card. I said that if she showed her ID I could finish the sale. She cursed me out some more as I gutted the game and left the case to be put back out. Then they left while my manager was laughing his butt off. Good times.

Canada and some European countries list the added sales tax into the listed price. So all you pay is what is listed. USA is actually one of the only countries that hit you with a hidden tax that isn't listed in the price.

I used to work at kohl’s and I can tell you it is true people poop in the fitting rooms all of the time.
Yo, I got a poop story. I was a bagger at a now defunct grocery chain in Ohio back in 2001, my senior year in high school. And at this particular store Bagger basically meant it's your responsibility to do everything and fill in everywhere. Now my dad was a manager at other stores and was often a fixer of sorts, and we was always roasting the manager of my store for it being poorly run. Anyway, one night about 15 minutes until it's time for me to leave the desk manager calls me back to the middle store restrooms. I go back and leaking into the actual store is the toilet water, full of dirty diarrhea water. Someone had clogged it and just left. She said "you need to get a bucket and mop and clean this up." keep in mind there is about an inch of crap water floating into the store because there is a dip right outside the restroom i'm guessing for this very situation, but no drain. I told her "no, I leave in 15 minutes and there's crap in there." she told me "someone has to do it." I told her "well it's not gonna be me." she looked totally confused and that I wouldn't wade through crap water 15 minutes before leaving for 5.15 an hour. I just turned and walked away. Turns out the store hired people in to clean stuff like that. Something she should have known.
I have all kinds of work stories. Don't miss being healthy enough to do it. Anyway at the same store I once trailed and profiled the undercover police officer, that no one told me sometimes came in. I reported him for suspicious activity, caused a bit of an issue. Seriously how good are you if a 18 year old kid can spot you and you look shady af?

She took a deep breath in and yelled ma’am at me then asked if I had anymore more decaf tea left . I told her no because if there wasn’t any there or on my cart that was it because I was done stocking that aisle . She put her mask back down took a deep breath in then yelled “ well fuck you too bitch “ rushed to put her mask back on to take a deep breath then walked away and rolled the oxygen tank behind her . Me and all 40 people were confused I just started dying laughing and walked to the back 😂😂 I have so many stories that one is my personal favorite
