    u can use a universal flairing die to open the mouth a little to allow flat base bullets to seat easier then use a crimping die to give it a nice crimp n close the mouth around the bullet

    I have my new 20" 25/45 sharps barrel and all the parts together! Should be able to hit the range tomorrow and see how this new setup performs. The next step will be seeing what this rifle likes! With your help I will have a good starting point. Thanks

      gavintoobe I finally got back to you, I'm getting good groups at 100yds with the Sharps87 gr. FMJ. With the soft point I'm getting a little more spread. I'm trying to find a good hunting round to tighten my groups. I'm shooting a 20 inch barrel suppressed! Thanks for your great info and instruction. I will let you know what I end up with.

    Precision loads with a powder thrower. You're funny!

      Do you know what a "Speed node" is?

    • @MotivatedMetalworks
      @MotivatedMetalworks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ultimatereloader Sure. It's a velocity at which the harmonics of the vibrations induced from firing the bullet result in a consistent muzzle location in space when the bullet is released from contact with the barrel.
      Any more easy questions, skippy?

    • @Ultimatereloader
      @Ultimatereloader  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MotivatedMetalworks If you're in a speed node, you can get precision with +/- 0.1 grain - and that's what this thrower is capable of. I know a LOT of PRS shooters that use throwers for powder charges for match ammo.

    • @Ultimatereloader
      @Ultimatereloader  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MotivatedMetalworks Wrong- it's a powder charge weight were variations in charge weight have little effect on muzzle velocity.

    • @MotivatedMetalworks
      @MotivatedMetalworks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ultimatereloader no bench rest guys are. Besides, the only way to verify that as true is to weigh every charge; at which point you might as well be using an auto dispensing scale from the start.
      My Hornady thrower has never been better than +/-.5gr. With stick powders it gets worse.
      You're making plain old good quality ammo. Not precision IMO.

    I didn't see a crimp stage when building the rounds? I have always been told when building rounds for an AR to crimp the casing.

      I shoot a lot of 25-45 and get great groups out to 600yds (1.5moa with 87gr Speer Hot-Cor) and I use a light crimp. I have found that a light crimp gives me better consistency with velocity (ES & SD) and accuracy. It isn't necessary though and if you are only shooting out to 200 or 300 you won't really notice any difference.

    Great vid as usual. What is the Hornady powder measure attached to that allows you to lock n load into press to charge cases - is it a type of die ???

    • @Ultimatereloader
      @Ultimatereloader  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lock-N-Load system has two parts: the press bushing (female), and the die bushing (male). Each die or accessory (like powder measure) has a die bushing on it.

    what powder measure is that and does it work for hornady single press?

    • @MotivatedMetalworks
      @MotivatedMetalworks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just Hornady's powder thrower. It'll work on any press as the mechanism is driven by contact with the case mouth.

    Hey Gavin, I enjoy your channel and appreciate what your doing for the reloading community.
    I’m looking to add a new single stage press to my bench.
    Between the MEC Marksman, Big Boss II, and Forster Co-Ax which would you say produces the best results for LRP shooting ammo (most consistency, highest tolerances, etc.) On-press priming not a make or break issue.
    Thank you again for your time and sharing your knowledge,
    -Joe

    Outstanding setup...would love to see more videos of this press in action as you go through each die for a batch of 223 or something. Also, how well does the spent primer catcher work?.

  • @paulvenn4447

    Hey mate, random question, out of all the progressive and single stage presses you've worked with, which do you rate the best out of both catergories?

  • @bigredtruck42

    You're videos are very informative. I don't think the 25-45 is gonna make it though. The ballistics suck compared to 5.56 and for people trying to get a larger caliber for hunting purposes there's a plethora of better options. To each their own though. Keep up the good work on your videos 👍
