    **The correct score should be 7 to 5 not 8 to 5 in favor of Dell. I mistakenly gave a check to Dell for price when it should clearly go to HP only in the price/value category.**

    the substantial price difference between the two, and the versatility of having a 2-in-1, I bought the HP spectre x360 and dont regret it at all. Dell XPS does have amazing bezel and screen, but its difficult for me to justify that additional cost, with both having intel gen 10th processors. You can't go wrong with both choices.

      Why do I feel 13 inch spectre is too small...but 15 too big. They should have a 14 inch and release it worldwide. Other than that the spectre is perfect and it is my dream laptop if I make it to a good college :D

    in my opinion, the keyboard, design, hardware, ports and battery life push the win towards the spectre, but its a great review.

      I agree...the subtle "blingy-ness," gem cut design, ports, OLED screen and keyboard pushes HP to the overall win for me - it just seems to have a bit more style/flash in the sea of space grays/blacks and a myriad of understated/minimalist designs. Granted the Dell 9300 is scheduled to arrive late next week, so I'll see if my opinion changes. Typing is important for me, so the keyboard layout, key travel, and overall "feel" is a major factor along with the screen (for me).

    Thank you for pointing out the function of the bottom bezel on the HP Spectre!! So many people want it gone and it serves a complete purpose. Both helps when holding it as a tablet in the air and also elevates the screen by a few inches to mildly relieve neck pains. It may not be 16:10 but thanks to that it's not as short when compared to the XPS.

    My wife has the XPS13, I have the spectre x360. The XPS is nice, but for my type of work the Spectre is so much more versatile, and that battery really last longer. The gem cut design also puts me away from the boring clamshell design imo.

      This is an excellent comment - exactly what someone is looking for if they're considering both. I think at the end of the day, I'd miss being able to read digital comics on a 2-1 AMOLED display, so I'll give the Spectre a spin (the 2-1 XPS is too much of a jump in price). Thanks for the input!
      Edit: I just found out I can get the XPS 2-1 HDR for $500 more than the HP - any opinion on which I should go with?

    I went with the HP and love it. I think they are both pretty evenly matched, but with the 2 in 1 configurations I can’t see how you give the win to Dell. The sound test was a joke as I could tell the volume levels were not the same. I had the previous Del XPS and it was Without a doubt an awesome machine; but having had both, I would also without a doubt call it a tie all around, with the win coming down to personal preference regarding the 2 in 1 capability.

    Thanks for the lovely review, Andrew. Both are awesome laptops, but I'm so smitten by the convertible design. I almost got the last gen XPS clamshell, but I just couldn't get over the tablet mode. I'm really looking forward to yet another showdown of the convertibles towards the end of the year, when hopefully all of them have been refreshed. Keep up the good work 👍🏾. If you're right that the XPS 15 may no longer have a convertible option, then that will be really sad. If Dell would have put a numpad in that unit, I'd have jumped on it, coz I love the way they upscale performance, even though it may be at the relative expense of battery life and thermal optimization

      The Dell XPS 15 2 in 1 9575 is horrible. I had so many idle overheating issues with it and the keyboard is a mess, not to mention it's the only current Dell XPS Laptop to still have a nose cam and it has only a 4 core H option, rather than the 6 core option you'll probably get on current laptops. Do not get it!

    @jfitzpatrick6108 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great side-by-side, point-by-point comparison, Andrew. Well done!
    However, IMHO, the _slight_ advantages of Dell over the HP do _not_ merit the Dell's 26% price premium. A laptop is a tool - not an ornament.
    It's one thing to spend extra to spruce up one's ride - another thing to spruce up one's tools.

    As a student who's looking for a laptop primarily to write notes, I really like the hp spectre since it's a 2 in 1, but 13 in is too small and 15 in is too big. I wish there was a 14in option. I keep looking for the best laptop with Verizon LTE. < my work locations don't allow external hotspots, the LTE has to be built-in to the laptop for security reasons>. Seems like this HP only does ATT/Tmobile. In most of my work areas ATT doesn't seem to penetrate buildings well. (That is relative to MY areas, not necessarily yours.) Possibly HP has another option for Verizon but I have not found it. Plus I find this device too gaudy. I much prefer the look of the Dell. So far I am still using full time the Verizon Samsung Book S, but it has some limitations with the lack of Intel CPU software support by the app writers. Anyway from HP's website for this device " HP Spectre x360 13 can connect to ATT & T-Mobile. Verizon & Sprint not available. 4G Module on select models and designed for up to 1 Gbps download speeds (CAT16 LTE with 4x4 antenna configurations). "

    Everyone has there own opinion. In my opinion the HP is the clear winner here. Many of your points were borderline and could have gone the other way given someone else making the comparison. The Dell did not clearly win enough points to justify the additional cost.

      It depends. do you want a 2 in 1 or connect a lot of peripherals? Then get the HP Spectre X360. I would rather get the Spectre due to those reasons, but they're both good.

    I love your reviews but this one not so much for the following reasons. You really seemed Dell XPS biased and may need a different type of scoring system. For example in categories that were close but the edge barely went to one or the other they got a 1 but in a category where it wasn't even close the winner still got only 1. For instance look at price and see a $400 difference for the same specs and so HP gets 1 point and again with a 2 hour edge in battery life HP only gets 1 point. Then with the keyboard you like the Dell better but said it was close so Dell gets a point. But there is no way that the difference in the Dell keyboard is equal to the difference of the $400 or the difference of the extra 2 hours the HP gives you in battery life over the Dell.
    Please consider more of a 1-10 scale for 10 categories when grading laptops so you can score them on a range up to 100. This is just my opinion but I think then you will truly have a good ranking system in place since you test so many laptops. And your rankings would be based by category so you would have some AMD laptops score in the high 90s that might cost $900 while having some I7 laptops that score in the mid 80s and cost $1,300. It doesn't mean the AMD is better it only means the AMD is better in it's class!
    Sorry for the rant.

    • @amitandutube
      @amitandutube 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree! I do appreciate the time and effort that’s been put into the review but I do think the scoring system needs an overhaul. I currently own an XPS and have just bought the Spectre. At the end of day the cost is where the rubber hits the road and while I don’t disagree with most of the review you have to seriously provide a lot of weighting for “bang for buck”. There’s no way I could justify paying an extra £300 just for a 16:10 screen that the XPS had. Also this is possibly the only review where someone has preferred the XPS keyboard to the Spectre - although most of the reviews compare the Spectre to the XPS 2-in-1 which is what I thought should’ve been a more appropriate comparison.

    Never ever buy any laptop from Dell. The quality control is very poor and cheap parts are used. Batteries can swell up and damage the laptop and Dell do not think this is an issue. It is a very big concern. The company is awful now. NEVER EVER BUY DELL GARBAGE.

    You should also consider how bad Dell's QC is, already came out reviewers from TH-cam got good ones on purpose so they can get praised but it reality everyone who bought from Dell xps 13 to 17 are getting very bad laptops with so many defects, even go on reddit and you will see. I already know someone going through there 3rd replacement from Dell because of so many defects. And top it off, there customer service is the worst in the market, people please be aware of the dangers of getting a Dell, reviewers call it "Apple Killer" for the Macbook Pro, but in reality it isn't.
