I just found your channel and absolutely love you! I am considering selling flowers at a road stand, busy rural road, in a couple years when I semi-retire. Great info on things to consider...learn to grow flowers first lol! I am starting by landscaping my yard with perennials that can be used in bouquets, greenery and flowers. That way, the worst outcome is a beautiful yard to enjoy and the best is supplemental income. Keep the videos coming!
"We grew some others and just were disgusted." "Doesn't take much to disgust us." Lollllllll, you two and your vests and your disgust, you're the best 😅
Just had you girls in my feed as a suggestion, so glad I did. Too bad it wasn't before I bought half of what you don't ever want again. I'm in zone 7 that should become an 8 now. Funny tho we did get snow today, first time in about 6 yrs., I'm on Maryland's eastern shore. Look forward to seeing what you have going on this yr.
I do miss sweet peas. When I lived in Seattle, they were so successful! But it's always cold and balmy maritime spring and summers. Amaranth is cool. Great food source for humans and great nectar source for pollinators.
Thank you for sharing, I am really surprised, I am in zone8b, totally different your growing zone, my "not growing list" is almost the same like yours. I also buy seeds from floret a lot.
I'm tired of flowers that need staking. I will make an exception for dahlias and gladiolus because they're just too gorgeous, but everything else has to stand up on it's own or forget it. Oh, and hollyhocks and verbena bonariensis are out. Both are gorgeous but just end up with fungal issues.
Pardon the very late comment/question. I'm seed shopping so this subject is very relevant to me. I was so certain at the start of the video that you would put Yarrow in this list. But you didn't. And I'm curious... Isn't it invasive? You can control it? I'd love to grow some but I'm terrified of it taking over everything. I'm zone 5b, Montreal area. Your videos are delightful and so, so informative. Thank you.
Sorry this reply is so late! We “fence off” our yarrow bed with landscape fabric paths, so it doesn’t spread. We haven’t had any issues with it taking over. It will self seed throughout the garden, but pulls out easily. Thanks for the feedback! Happy to have you along for the ride.
I won't be growing Zinderella this year, either...and never again, unless they develop a more stable cultivar. It's not just you! They just have a very low rate of flowers 'true to form'. I won't be growing calendula again... Well, maybe in my potager or house borders, but not in the cutting garden!
how freeing! i’m slow to give the ax to flowers that don’t work...especially the zinderellas. i grow them every year in hopes of getting the fluffy ones. this the last year i’m giving them the chance! (zone 6b)
Axed...nicotiana, sweet peas and putting a hard limit on amaranth. I hate frosted explosion grass. It grew beautifully, but I hated designing with it. No more calendula for cutting!
Can’t deal with plants that are too fussy. I’m trialing sweet peas this year in some 5b and…yeah. Going to get like a handful of blooms and then too hot. I’d have to overwinter them, and train them up a trellis…in a low tunnel? A lot of work.
I will no longer be growing corn 🪓 in my garden. I have tried for 4 years and planted in different spots. I just can't get them to grow right. I hope to replace with zinnias or another cut flower.
China asters weren't a success here in Boise Idaho this year, either, same with the zinderella peach zinnias. We learn as we grow, though. Thanks for sharing...
I just discovered you and love your informative videos! I decided not to plant quite as many marigolds next spring, because they developed black spots in August. I'm not sure why. The good thing about them is they do deter deer because they are so stinky!
Our mom used to plant marigolds next to certain vegetables (tomatoes?) as a pest deterrent. Never thought to try it in a flower garden. 😅. An excellent idea.
What is your zone? Mine is 9 Hibiscus got the ax. I don’t want anything i have to wrap up in the winter for protection. Not sure we even had a freeze but one died & 2 looked dead. So bye bye!

So fun to hear your reasoning for what you choose to grow!

That’s a great way to get started!! Best of success to you this year.
I love your honesty and humor!

Y'all are fun to watch! Glad to see honest reviews.
Another really great video! Thank you so much!
I'm right there with you on some of those varieties! It's good to know that other growers have similar experience with things I don't like, as well. 😀
you two are so much fun!

I feel redeemed! I had the exact same issues with Black Satin Dahlias and Zinderella Zinnias. Maybe it's a midwest/climate thing.
Great video ladies !! You guys are very impressive for 3 Years of flower farming.
I enjoyed this video. I liked how you called certain things maybe just an “us problem” 😂
Chuckles. This was such a joy to see. ☺️
Glad you enjoyed it. ;)
I've learned so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing. Also, love your sense of humor.

Loved watching you both, made me smile. Thanks for sharing your list.
I love your videos, I’ve been growing through them the past few days! Very informative, thank you!
I’m glad you find them useful! Thanks fo sharing!
great videos and info from the two of you ,love your videos
Loved this...i agree with all of your points!😘😘😘
I"m with you on dusty and most of the others. I struggle also with dahlias... Blooming fine but hate the short stems. They end up on my table...Thx

I am in 8b as well. Mississippi
Every time I try to buy seeds from floret , they are sold out.

What did you not like about Calendula for cutting?
I was planning on adding some next year.
I didn’t like working with the sticky Calendula stems for cut flowers but still grow it just to have it around in my garden.
Great video, a lot of insight. I wonder how my zinderellas will do, because I've heard more than once they're inconsistent.

Can you give examples. I am in zone 6B also.
Statice got the ax form my garden. Never got any blooms to speak of, even though I started them early from seed.
Wow My grow list is pretty close to your don’t grow list & I live in zone 9 I don’t grow baby’s breath I tried for two years
Cosmos. I hate it. I will never grow it again. That’s what got the ax in my garden this year.

You guys are great

:) Thanks
Thanks!
Fun!
I'm giving bachelor buttons the axe☹

Hmm…I’ve been patiently waiting for my China Astors….hoping they aren’t a yuck 🥲
