One thing I’ve learned and I’m sure Eric has learned, everybody is an expert till they have to do the job and cheers to Eric for helping the lady instead of just saying “ gotta replace everything from catback”. the old stuff will out last any “affordable” aluminized pipe you put on
@@WorkableWax It won't. That salt will eat that sleeve in a couple years. But it will finish off the exhaust in a couple years too. He's not kidding about walker exhaust. That right there is what you call 'engineering a solution'! Cheaper than a new exhaust, saving the customer money, and working wonders for customer relationship. There's way too many places that would want to rip that exhaust off and charge mega bucks for a cheap after-market replacement. This engineered solution is win-win in my book.

I was just discussing this with my 30 year old son yesterday. Back in the 1980's and before we had a bunch of chain muffler stores in the U.S. Then the manufacturers started using stainless exhaust systems, and the whole ballgame changed. The last exhaust I had worked on was our 1992 Eagle Premier, and it came from the factory with a clamp on the muffler so I only paid $49 for a muffler and clamp. Ever since I have sold the vehicles at 10+ years old having never had to repair any exhaust parts. Oh- and all those "muffler" chains either went belly up, or expanded out into full service, especially brakes and struts, etc. You did a great job and gave wonderful customer service Eric!

The fact that you see & work on so many cars tells me your experience makes the judgement call on your repair. With the cost of parts being so high the more you can salvage is the more you can save a "happy" customer. Keep doing you!!!

What a great guy you are, taking time to determine whether or not a money-savings quick fix is all that is needed. Wanting to save this older woman some significant money was your priority. This is a rarity in today's repair shops. I tip my hat to you!
I owned a muffler, Brake and alignment shop for many years. On a job like that I would set it and spot the top flange and remove the muffler and do a good weld on the bench or floor then put it back in place and weld the bottom lip. I always enjoy these videos and I thank God I'm retired now.......
Love to watch every episode, I watch you at home an at work on break. Learn a lot even know I’m a seasoned mechanic. I believe you can’t know everything. Lee up the great work.
The only thing I "might" have done differently would be to try to weld the inside of the sleeve on the muffler side before the easier part since it's such a pain to get up over the top. Oh also as a tip: if you spray the rubber of the muffler hangar with brake parts cleaner it makes the rubber slimy so the hangar slips right out or in. When the spray dries the rubber goes right back to being a a tight firm fit. $.02

I just started an automotive tech course at my community college. Watching your videos, I'm learning a lot of little tricks and things to make repairs and installs a little easier. Thanks!
You're doing GREAT. I had mechanics charge me 120$+ just to take out the MIG welder with...no gas, and "weld" the broken flange with cold tacks of unshielded wire on rusty wet full of road salt metal that they didn't bother giving even of trigger pull of wire wheel or abrasive handwaving. I fixed it with 2 stainless hose clamps and HVAC galvanized sheet metal. It outlasted the "welding" by 5 years.
I know you're a pro and been doing this forever but please for the love of God don't rely on just closing your eyes when welding. UV doesn't stop because your lids are down. I know ppl who learned that the hard way over time.

You are a good man and a super mechanic to save your customer money like that! I need you for my mechanic. 🛠
I was a welding inspector for a company with government contracts. I say all that to say I think you did a good job even though you welded dissimilar materials not using the correct electro still you did good from my point of view! Most of all you help someone who could have been taken advantage of. We need more like you. Thank you for your kindness.
Always take care of the people that take care of you and you will have loyal customers for the life of your business
what a great guy, I live in CT, and they wanted $4000 for a exhaust for my 2002 Subaru. I went home and did what this great honest mechanic did and folks I have one arm and these folk over in CT and I was sent to a place in Dutchess County, and they wanted $4200.We need people who care about real folk, like Eric. Not scammers. Nice to see a real honest guy.

I like Your Grade AAA Exhaust repair, Don't care what others think about it, It's a PERFECT rust belt repair probably last as long as the rest of the piping now, well done ERIC 🇺🇸👍.
Welds look just fine, and anyone criticizing them has probably never been under a car welding rusty exhaust in a cramped area . Great video as always
Your repair looked fine. Totally agreed about the Walker garbage. Look 10 years old after a year.
Brought back memories of my hot rod days piecing together exhaust systems from whatever pipe we could scrounge. Looked cobbled but always worked. With glass packs of course! Well done Mister O!
