Fan of both but I have a feeling that Lauren is used to people keeping it superficial and trying to flirt/ impress her. Rick likes to play/ challenge. They are polar opposites.
Also Rick is really quick/ sharp/ dry so if you aren’t really paying attention or are distracted by your talking points/ own internal monologue you miss the moment where he tips his hat. The Chinese food joke is the perfect example.
She didn’t play with him. She asked him prepared questions . The format doesn’t suit a deep thinker.

When it comes to comedy podcasting, Cumtown will always be the gold standard, absolutely minimal effort, but incredibly funny with a long lasting legacy.

@MateoMarine He loves going back and forth when he gets in the groove with someone. His autism is a major factor. He genuinely has a hard time reading people, says things really honestly that put people off if they don't know him or aren't used to him. I've seen him have the best interviews of all time on TYSO when people open up to him but also others that crash and burn.
We all have our different favorite comedians.
@@danielcaswell9945 Yeah he works best with people that let the joke keep running. It's absurdist comedy, if you stop and try to make it make sense, it kills the momentum.
I totally get the criticism of him. If you don't realize he's playing a character and take him seriously, he just seems obnoxious. But it's all a performance, one he's asking them to be a part of. Here, Lauren just took him as someone full of themselves, so it was off putting to her, but in his own way, he was teeing her up for banter.
It's why he's better at conversing with comedians, "Yes, and" comes naturally to them, whereas it's not an instinct for most people in what would otherwise be a straight forward conversation.
Rick Glassman plays 4D checkers, and that's why I came. Three times.

The gulping is annoying and predictable. I stopped watching his podcast. I'm sure it won't last long compared to his peers. Too much repetitive annoying, lame attempts at humor. He fake treats people like garbage, which isn't funny to me. It's cheap. And if that's your style of humor, no thanks. Cheap isn't fun for me though.

Rick has explained the door thing on multiple occasions. He feels disingenuous about opening the door for a girl because in most cases, a guy will only do that for the girl in the beginning of their relationship, so he's really only doing it just to make himself look good - because once they've been together for a few years, that falls by the wayside, so it's not his "true" character. There are a few guys who will *always* open the door for their significant other forever, but it's a pretty tiny percentage of guys.
Since Rick knows that if he stays with this girl for 5 years and won't be continuing to open the door for her for the rest of time, he doesn't think it makes sense to do it at the beginning of the relationship because he's basically "lying" about his character, and he doesn't want to mislead her. He also doesn't like the "chivalry" aspect of things because it can be considered pretty sexist and outdated in various situations. She doesn't actually need help opening the door because she's a grown woman who can handle it herself. Yes, it can be a nice thing to do for her, but if you're just doing it because she's a woman (and you wouldn't also do this for your close guy friends), then it's still kinda inherently sexist.
Rick is all about honesty and showing his true intentions, and that manifests in many different aspects of his life - sometimes in ways that don't make much sense to other people or might seem "rude" until you hear his explanation for it.
Thanks for explaining this for him! That is I think the most valuable quality for a person to have in a relationship and I wish people were more like him!

At 5:03 Titties makes a dumb little burn joke at Rick and he immediately reacts in a way that turns it into an actually hilarious joke and then continues to add to the jokes for like 3 minutes in a very quick, witty way that kinda blew my mind and if he does this the whole episode we will officially have the first good episode of Worst Date.
