  • EAST LINDSEY PARISH #26: WADDINGWORTH
    Waddingworth - “Wada’s Enclosure”
Hello again folks this week in East Lindsey we come to a place that might lay claim to being the smallest we’ve seen so far in these parts. It covers less land after all than Tupholme, and you all know how small that one was. This is Waddingworth, which is effectively just a farmyard with a church and a few houses. Residents number less than 20. It’s a miniscule place. It was once much larger though. At the time of Domesday, Waddingworth had 60 households - yes 60! That’s a crazy number when you consider how small it is now.
However, sometimes the smallest ones harbour the most interesting pieces of history - and I reckon Waddingworth does so admirably. We are heading here along the track that leads to the village - there’s only one way in and one way out. Once we get there we will be at the geographical centre of Lincolnshire - Waddingworth’s biggest claim to fame. The whole thing is 5 miles Northwest of Horncastle, and if you look on the map, you have to say this claim appears to be correct based on the geography before your eyes.
Waddingworth even has its own website with everything you need to know about the place - useful because visitors do come here regularly. I often say in these parts we’re off to explore deepest Lincolnshire - this time I truly mean it.
    Lets go!

It's just as interesting to see the tiniest villages, it shows that even the smallest locations have something to talk about. It doesn't always need to be large to be worth covering.

So, with the church being privately owned. In terms of photography, how was you allowed to film? Did you need to email them beforehand to seek permission?

I knew someone would ask this.
In theory yes, and you should. I was told by a farmer when I was there, that's what most people do.
I didn't know that at the time, and so I had to explain to the guy what I was doing. He was a tidy guy though, so no issues. Very welcoming, all of them, down there

So if you can find the centre of Waddingworth and go into the middle of it you'll be in the centre of the centre of the centre of Lincolnshire 🙂
