Iwas walking there along that coast last time and the rout led me to amazing Camara de Lobos.Madeira is nr.one for me.I can't wait to see Easter on the island. And of course the fest of flowers in may.
Madeira really is a most wonderfully place, all year round. Walking westward from Funchal, you can indeed take a walkway all the way to Câmara de Lobos. I don't think I'll make it to Madeira next year for the Festa da Flor, but I used to live in Madeira, and definitely recommend visiting in may! ❤️🇵🇹
I have been in may.As you said all year round. The church of St.John Baptist inside is very beautiful, decorated with portuguese ornaments and many others.Anyone may to find something for itself.@@PortugueseFlaneur
I agree...Madeira is a wonderful place and May is indeed a beautiful time to visit. I remember that the Jacaranda trees were in bloom with a impressive show of purple flowers. Kept the street maintenance team busy though as they stain the ground quickly1😊
Have fun there! Madeira is a great place to visit, especially in winter, when the great weather really makes a difference. What are you most looking forward to visiting there? ❤️🇵🇹
@@PortugueseFlaneur Everything really. The old city in Funchal for the history and architecture. Taking the cable car up to Monte, looking at all the gardens and then coming down on a toboggan. Visiting the Madeira wine cellars and doing some tasting - hopefully very similar to what we did at Sandemans in Porto five years ago. Trying lovely Madeiran food and maybe getting off the beaten track into the mountains and visiting the interior and the north coast. I really like Portugal and I've visited Lisbon, Porto, Sintra, Setubal, Troia, Lagos and Albufeira. I love the culture, food and history - best seafood in Europe.
Couldn't agree more! You seem to have a nice plan for Madeira already. There's nature hikes of all kinds there, from rocky trails in the central or eastern mountains to forest walks deep into the "Laurissilva", there's trails of varying difficulty, and they're very well kept. As to Madeiran food, don't forget to try: - espetada de carne (skewered meat), there's a nice spot in Campanário if you're around - pica-pau (tasty bits of meat usually served with fries), usually shared - bife de atum (tuna steak) - filete de espada preto (black scabbardfish fillet) - milho frito (fried maize cubes) as a typical sidedish - lapas (limpets), if you're into seafood, mostly as a tapa or starter - bolo do caco (round piece of bread), usually served with garlic butter, a prego (steak), or carne de vinha d'alhos (marinated pieces of meat) - bolo de mel (molasses cake), a spicy, sweet, christmastime treat - poncha (fruit punch), a strong citrusy drink with many variations, typically from Câmara de Lobos, but available everywhere on the island - Madeira wine of course, a fortified spirit - Coral, the local beer, quite similar to mainland beers tbh - Brisa & Laranjada, the local soft drinks, passionfruit- and orange-flavoured respectively If you find yourself in Caniçal, on East Madeira, Muralha's Bar is nice place to eat. Nice portions, great variety of Madeiran food that's well prepared, and not too expensive. Not worth going to Caniçal just for it, but worth a small detour if you're visiting Machico or on your way to/from the Ponta de São Loureço (the Eastern tip of the Island, with a rocky hiking trail). I'm sure I'm forgetting a few dishes. Madeira has great food! Have fun there!
The flowers in May & the public gardens were beautiful. Not so much the begging bums, junkies shooting up, cruise ship crowds, the relentless traffic with no parking. Been there, done that - nevet again.
Madeira is a beautiful island. So much nature in such small space. I always love visiting, even with the social issues (which one finds everywhere), and some over-tourism at the most popular spots. It's one of my favourite places to be ❤️🇵🇹
Great video and i love the long walk from Forum to downtown Funchal. Brings back beautiful memories of our many trips to Madeira! OBRIGADO! THANK YOU!
I'm glad you liked it as much as I liked walking this. Madeira is always a nice place to visit. ❤️🇵🇹

Lindo esse percurso, nesse cantinho do céu
É mesmo muito bonita a Madeira! ❤️🇵🇹
I'll be there in just over 4 weeks. It will be my first time in Madeira, although not my first time in Portugal.
