    About 70 years ago my dad and a friend made a concrete septic tank. It was all pored in forms and the last thing they did was add supports for the top, then it was also completed. When they decided it was time to pull out the forms they discovered that the neither one of them could fit thru the manhole. I was then lowered into the tank and I removed the supports and forms. This was before you could buy preformed tanks. I loved my dad and you and your son remind me of our relationship back then. Thanks for all your videos, they are great! Dave

    Watching ALL the equipment you've used in this ICF house build series from when you first obtained them, and then you bringing them back to fully functioning order, makes watching this even more satisfying. All part of the bigger plan and all the steps needed to turn that plan into reality... Really appreciate you sharing all the steps with us.

    the internal dimension of that 1250gal tank will displace 10,412 lbs of water. That does no include the water displaced by the thickness of the concrete or the outside dimensions. Here in Galveston Bay, we have a couple of old "concrete ships" that were sunk to create artificial fish habitat. By concrete ship, they mean they were made from concrete . My old ship, The USS Midway, weighed in at 128 million lbs of steel and it floats to this day. Launched in 1945. You have a great outstanding channel, Jesse.

    I am retired at this point and had been doing construction my entire adult life. Going the extra mile with your house will pay off in the end. I have seen many septic systems installed and not one with the care you took to keep ground water out. You are very right in saying the it doesn’t matter if it is ground water or septic that will cause a lot of damage over time. Nice job.

    • @billvandorn5332
      @billvandorn5332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could easily be one of the most important parts one does not want to fail! Most importantly is to fill them up with water right away so they don't float!

  • @oldtimefarmboy617

    I live in a semi-arid part of the country and our ground water is 100 plus feet down. Here you are, on the high ground in that area, and you can dig down just a few feet and water starts seeping from the soil. Farmers around here would consider that a nice problem to have. But one advantage we do have is that the leech field for a septic systems have plenty of soil to soak into and we do not have to pump water to get it to percolate into he ground.

    In Australia it is quite common now to use a recycling septic system. Basically it is a standard septic tank with an aeration chamber on the outlet side. They treat the water so well that it can be pumped back onto lawn or garden beds, no leach fields needed

  • @plowkingf15
    @plowkingf15 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Only tanks I see coated here are holding tanks in wet areas. Tanks not coated especially with discharge from water softener are falling apart at outlet baffle. If field is vented, then tank doesn't rot as quick because the gasses and fumes escape thru the leach field or pump chamber vent. Nice job. The pump and or check valve have weep holes so line to leach field doesn't freeze. I watched till end of video. We bury our electric and alarm lines in conduit from pump tank to house incase line has to be pulled in the future and replaced from wear or damage or lightning strike.

    Get a deburring tool to clean the inside edge of PVC, ABS or copper tubing. It's cheap, quick and leaves a smooth (unsanded) bevel. Sandpaper removes the slick (inside) pipe surface and "material" can stick to it easier, especially in sanitary waste lines. Deburring reduces turbulence and should be done on every pipe connection. An outside pipe beveling tool is also a good idea.

    Have worked in septic my whole life and can say you did good man the filter really doesnt need to be in it. I know for most states its code but they just are overkill. The sanitary tee keeps the solids from going to the pump tank anyway same with baffle wall. Where im at we have 1500 gallon septic tanks with 1000 gallon pump tanks so their a little bigger but they all work the same. And remember the most critical thing with your system is your pump. Go with a Goulds pump. For the lift you need which doesnt seem far i can bet a PE51M Goulds would work great. Or if you would like to overkill it and have the pump last for 20+ years go with a WE0311M Goulds pump thats a big one and may require 2 to install it but it will last. If you need any help let me know i have worked in it for my whole life. Just dont put a cheap pump in it, you will regret it trust me. All liberty, flowtec, myers, zolar, and lowes or home depot pumps are garbage. 5 years absolute max but would prob only last like 2 years.

    i have set a lot of tanks in my day, never had to seal or cement the walls or floor the in side with any thing, in fact this is the first ever you tube video i seen were this is ever done, the gas and heat the crap puts off would eat any costing put on, you would think the chemical in that coating would kill the working of the tank,, over 30 years an i have never opened or had my tank pumped i put in over 30 years ago. being on hard red clayi had to import septic sand to built the 4 foot high field mound,, and put a clay bank on 2 sides, but being i wanted more front flat yard from the walk out i cut the clay hills down and filler over the mound so ya dont even know its there, i dont see the road as the valley hill blocks it,, on the road side.. , deep valley in my front.. and one to the south.. no pump tank needed, was set for a walk out basement, with floor drains an a bath room in the basement. witch had to have a 6 foot deep footing an cement wall on the walk out wall/s. oh we can not use PVC FROM THE HOME TO THE TANK, IT MUST BE HEAVY 4" MINIMUM, ABS. clean out must be in side,, AND THE TANK CANNOT BE MORE THEN 50 FEET AWAY AN NO CLOSER THEN 10. IN HEAVY SOIL WE DONT PUT SAND OR STONE UNDER wires, tank or PIPE AS IT MAKE FOR A WET SINK HOLE, IT WOULD COLLECT AND HOLD WATER, ONLY TIME WE USE STONE IS bACK FILLING a dug well for more water storage, but we set 3 well tiles with lids on around the main well tile going up, an back fill with washed clean crushed stone..cap last 3 feet with clay.. back fill a basement with stone over the drain tile and sand the rest ofthe way up, capping off the grade with top soil, or if like me cap off with clay then topsoil

I don't install septic but put in catch basin knock out boxes and we will be tarring the inside and outside from now on because we just had one fail after 2years. It was probably manufactured poorly but has rebar and fiber mesh. I like that he filled in the porous parts. I would have used ice and water roofing material on the outside. but as great job always good to watch.

    My soil is just like yours minus the rocks, all clay. When we built the ground just barely perked and we didn't trust it. We went with a tank and an aerator then into a lagoon. We planted evergreen bushes around the pond and that 99'9% pure water has morphed those bushes into behemoths. I look up into them on my ZTR when mowing and you cannot see the pond at all unless you walk up through the bushes. Lost one motor in 30+ years. $500.

Connection to the house should have been a combination lateral and elbow, main run would be extended and turn up with 90 deg with CO at grade with a conc. collar. That would have given you a direct shot down your main run. The run to the tank same lateral to go to house end extended and turn up with 90 deg with CO at grade with a conc. collar.

    Nice job! Just one remark: As i don't like digging in the dirt, i always run the cables in a pipe to make them exchangeable.
    Septic tanks aren't used at my place anymore, waste water goes to the sewage plant. Rain water tanks become more important, as it is perfect and low cost to water the garden.

    We use Kryton crystal products for joints. That stuff expands when water hit it. Hydrostatic proof.

    I would put some railing around the cleanout, as at one point a pumptruck will come through the very narrow gap between it and the pond.

    Even though you've back filled and covered the tanks you should fill them both with water just in case the ground water level rises. I've seen it happen on new construction before the house was moved in to. I even seen it happen to and in ground swimming pool when they pumped it out to refinish the inside.

    Would be cool to build a wild west style windmill to pump the water :)
