Jamaican cuisine includes a mixture of cooking techniques, flavours and spices influenced various groups including English, Irish, Portuguese, Indian, African etc.
Some Jamaican dishes are variations on cuisines brought to the island from elsewhere. These are often modified to incorporate local produce and spices. Popular Jamaican dishes include curry goat, rice and peas, fried dumplings, ackee and salt fish and Jamaican patties. In this video,
I get to try Jamaican food right here in Accra Ghana. Let’s experience Jamaican food together.

My name is Jasmine and I have relocated from Sydney Australia to Ghana in west Africa as of the year 2020.
My parents are of Ghanaian descent and so am I although I was born in Australia. Here on my channel, my goal is to give you a real glimpse into what its like to live in Ghana, from the Ghanaian food, to the Ghanaian culture, to the Ghanaian lifestyle and everything in between. My goal is to satisfy your curiosity about Ghana and help inspire to explore Ghana.
My prayer is that these videos do just that for several African’s in the diaspora.

As a Jamaican, I truly believe that if anyone could get close to what Jamaica food really taste like without actually being from the Isalnd, it would be Ghanaians.
So happy you tried it and you'll have a good comparison point when you actually go to Jamaica. Loved this one extra special just because it reminded me of home🇯🇲

Jasmine is glad that went Jamaican restaurant in ghana 🇬🇭 wonderful. Jamaica 🇯🇲 curry and Indian curry are very different in colours. Jasmine jerk chicken is very spicy not sweet. See you were wondering how rice was red, wash and soak red kidney peas overnight, then morning throw off some water add scallion, pimento, garlic 🧄 and ginger let's cook that's where the redness comes from. That's the first part of the cooking.

    Hi Jasmine. Nice video.
Jerk chicken is never sweet though. Any jerk sauce that you may have had from a grocery store that tasted sweet is a spin off from authentic Jamaican Jerk sauce.
Consider visiting Jerk Soul Carribbean/Ghanaian Fusion restaurant at the Oyarifa Mall as well. You'll het another opportunity to taste Jerk chicken from another location.
The restaurant is owned and operated by a Chicago native named Tellie Woods.

I’m half Ghanaian half Jamaican, if you don’t mind me saying, Rice & Peas should taste VERY different to waakye😂 its also very different ingredients. if you don’t mind, I’d love to share a recipe with you so you could try and make it yourself at home OR when i come to Ghana later this year, I’d love to make it for you myself as I always bring the ingredients from London to make it for my partner.
Also, what makes jerk chicken "jerk" is the method of cooking. Its cooked over a jerk pit over pimento wood which gives it a unique flavour. Jerk anything is usually on the spicier side and is seasoned with pimento seeds/powder also known as allspice

So glad you liked and enjoyed our Jamaican food. Thank you for sharing. I will definitely be checking out this yesterday from yard when I visit Ghana. The food looked good. Jerk is meant to be spicy, Jamaican curry goat is much more robust tasting them Indian curry. Saltfish fritters should have a nice fishy and spicy flavour. You will definitely enjoy Jamaica. I would definitely recommend going around certain parts of the island and trying the different street food.

Hey Jasmine as a Jamaican living in the US watching you for a while now it was really nice to see this video. Just a note all Jamaican food is well seasoned, a bit salty and tend to be spicy, peppered, so the jerk chicken you described is what I expected but the curry tends to be a hit or miss often times. I have not had great curry like in JM when I eat out abroad. But it is never sweet. love your reaction!

Hi Jasmine this was fun to watch. I’m Jamaican married to a Ghanaian. I’m glad to see you enjoyed a few of our dishes. The restaurant looked nice but to get the best experience you have to go to a Jamaican relative or grandmother or aunty that does some real home cooking. Or just go to Jamaica. I’m not knocking this restaurant because the food looked good just the same. I’m sure they added there own spin to the food and also they are catering to the large Ghanaian influence there so they had to tweek a few things. Just the same thanks for showing my countries beautiful food. Jerk chicken is never sweet always a spicy dish and there are many different variations of curry. Big up to Aisha by the way.God bless❤️

Hey Jasmine glad you venture out and trying some Jamaican food. Just a few FYI...
First of all Jamaicans love music so any establishment that you patronize that's Jamaican owned you're going to hear music. Next it's not called goat curry it's called " CURRY GOAT'! Which by the way the meat looks like it's bush meat and not goat because goat meat does not have that thick fatty skin on it that looks like either pork or bush meat. Also please keep in mind that there's a distinct flavor between Indian curry and Jamaican curry where Indian curry may have more coriander fenugreek cinnamon cumin stuff like that Jamaican Curry does not have those spices in it so do not give a negative score if you're not familiar with various types of curry. just like you have Thai curry different from Indian curry you have Jamaican curry that's also different just some FYI for you

Jasmine I would advise you to visit the various authentic West Indian restaurants owned by the Jamaican Rastafarians in Aburi to fully appreciate the true authentic flavour of the various dishes you highlighted in yet another amazing vlog. I recently visited that same restaurant you showcased and found the ambience amazing but the purported Jamaican dishes on their menu/ served were in name only. Don't get me wrong the dishes were nicely cooked. Don't get me wrong they were a
tasty/well presented but alas were not flavoured or prepared the West Indian way. As the Nigerians would say "they tried oh". If you're looking to try something slightly different, say for lunch or say after a hard day's in the office and wanted to chill with friends in a relaxed atmosphere then I would higly recommend this restaurant. The staff were very attentive. I also have to compliment you on your flawness skin and the colour of your top. You looked goregous!! Keep up the good work ....

There is nothing like THE REAL THING. There best place to really enjoy Jamaican food is in Jamaica. I still think about my experience in Kingston JA. The best steamed fish I ever had was in. Jamaica. Well, jerk is supposed to be spicy. All the best on your trip to Jamaica.

I am surprised the turmeric rice was rated above the rice and peas.

But Jasmine having grown up in Australia you would know of Thai, Malaysian curry etc which all differ from Indian curry. So it's no surprise that Jamaican curry is different.
This seems to be very popular post.
My wish is for you to shout Aisha a trip overseas, that would be fun to see.

Hope you do come to Jamaica . Rum punch is formulae is 1-sour ,2-sweet,3-strong,4-weak. I am one of your subscribers living in 🇯🇲 🙏 It surely will taste authentic in JA.

Hello. Curry goat is not a stew. The potatoes are added to make it a heartier meal and for it to be a gravy. I never had salt fish with green dipping sauce but it could be like you said more Ghanaian.

You are having a royal feast ! Jerk chicken is not supposed to have a sweet taste. It could either be mild or spicy.
