This is a trip down memory lane for me, I have a Horizon blue series 1.5 (1972) in the loft which my mum bought me to go to school on when I was 11, I'm touching 60 now !! It has some mild surface rust and needs a strip down but I'm tempted to bring it back to life now that I've seen your videos. 👍

Waiting on weather to warm up. Will be clear coating it as, to keep the patina. Not managed to separate sissy bar. Watching videos, people cut them out, but I need to keep it, so unfortunately just going to leave it in, as not my bike.

Heat can help free up rusted parts but blow torches can damage paint. I've had some luck in the past using a soldering station hot air gun played over stuck joints, nuts, etc. Doesn't always work and you often need several heat/cool cycles but it has controllable temperature and less chance of paint scorching.
Also for cleaning surface rust off chrome surfaces, try scrunched up aluminium foil dampened with a little water. Give the rusty chrome surface a bit of elbow grease with this and you can remove a lot of surface rust. This was a trick I learnt years ago restoring railway locomotives! The aluminium foil is harder than the rust, but softer than the chrome so removes and coats rust and doesn't scratch any remain chrome surface. For large areas, try a brass wire wheel on a drill (works for a similar reason).

It looks to me that the fork/head tube is cracked just above the lower tube. I’m curious about that since the fork was so badly bent.

It’s bent where the forks join the tube, yet to work out what to do with it. No cracks visible, but it’s sent the forks back. Seems a common thing (bmx jumping a chopper - we’ve all done it)

@@TheRestorationShack Thats great! Thought I saw a crack. I remember when we started doing the Evel Knievel / BMX thing on our 20” bikes here in the seventies. Truly glad to see you taking on this project. I keep hoping I’ll stumble upon an old muscle bike to restore myself. Regards.
