Depends on what kind of aggressive characters. I mostly play swordies, and damn is it hard to fight against Steve. His tether grab and starting blocks makes it very hard get in on him. Additionally, you’re almost forced to approach since allowing him to mine is a very bad idea. His blocks also makes movement very inconvenient when you approach. Characters with song ranged attack that can interrupt his mining are much better off. They can better find an opportunity to approach since Steve can’t just mine for free because of the tangled attack, and they can keep Steve in disadvantage.
There’s also a nasty move where if you place a block directly off ledge at head level. Then back throw someone into the block. It spikes them off the ledge. Nasty
Inkling gets bodied by this if she goes directly to the ledge, but if the combo starts at 0%, she has ways to get around it. She can stall her recovery really well: she can go very low with her up B + she has a double jump. If there is a wall on the stage like PS2 or Kalos she can stall with her wall jump as well. It makes it a 50/50 to make steve place blocks later than rather instantly. She can probably go under the stage as well after getting spiked.
The uptilt> up-air chain can go to 9(70% wooden axe) . If u use an iron block they do care since it’s actually stops them from breaking through the bottom so this could be good in a lot of matchups if you have iron blocks. But they will break from the side and tether recoveries still go through it
One big thing I've noticed is that the blocks you place 100% matter. Dirt can easily gimp anyone without a hitbox or extreamly little damage on the recovery(palu, pika). Characters with medium damage on their recovery can be blocked with stone or wood(fox or falco maybe?), recoverys that are strong require iron(Link, Ryu). I haven't really tested this so the characters I use are just examples. Fox and Falco might be able to break them, i'm just using what I thought of as a "medium damage" recovery Another thing I've noticed is if the block is directly on ledge(right where you grab it) the enemy can still snap to ledge and will break the block. Its much more reliable to place the blocks 1 away from ledge(out or down) to prevent characters with a good snap getting close enough to do so
You could hold the block button using stronger blocks such as stone and iron because if you hold the button if fixes the block before it even breaks. This could be used to gimp characters such a mario, corrin, and donkey kong when they recover low. I have done this a lot online it it works pretty well
