Why can't you use 12v power from the power port in the trunk, on the right side? Routing wire under the car looks like a huge pain. If I had to route direct to battery, I'd run it inside and bundle with existing wires under the carpet (my preference). Also, with your tester, left and right were backwards. (left signal blinked on the right) Is that how it is supposed to work? Also, seems like if you put the controller box somewhere closer to the center you wouldn't need to extend the right side (green) wire. I haven't done that yet, but I plan to try.

The 12V feed needs to connect directly to the battery in order to isolate the vehicle's wiring system from any short circuits that might happen in the trailer wiring. You can certainly run the wire through the vehicle if you wish. When the connector was tested, the socket fed by the yellow wire got power with the left turn signal and the socket fed by the green wire showed power with the right turn signal, which is correct.

@@etrailer Thanks, I'll use wire channel along the driver side to the firewall for power from the battery. Also of note, the big warning sticker on the control box says it must go inside the car's interior. So I am going to try to mount it in the cubby area under the left tail light. There is a perfect spot for it when you remove the plastic cubby box. But I might need some creative wire routing to get the 4-pin adapter through that area... we'll see!

You could use some wire loom like # 7509-1. It's available by the foot.
