As a golem pump main i think the last pump nerf was bad for the card, it just killed it, the reason why it got suddenly broken is because of dagger duchess release, which allows you to safely pump up and still be able to defend if opponent tries to pressure, dagger duchess was hella broken at that time. One thing that made pump even worse is the void being a thing. I think even the unnerfed pump wouldn't be that broken anymore now because dagger duchess got many nerfs and void being super popular.

They make the new thing broken so people use it and pay money, they nerf something older instead of the new thing so people who spent money don't get as upset, then eventually nerf the new thing
My main concern around the Elixir Pump is something you briefly mentioned- that it can’t really be compared to anything else in the game, or at least couldn’t in its earlier years. It was the sole method players had for manipulating their elixir output, so honestly no normal nerf of game mechanics would’ve ever put the card in what Supercell considered a “healthy spot”. It could only kill the card or let it remain prevalent, because there was simply no other option- if a player wanted to do anything to store elixir or boost elixir output, they HAD to use the elixir pump no matter what state it was in. This makes it unfair to compare the elixir pump’s use rates with that of other cards that had replacements of any kind. The idea of letting spells slow down the pump’s production in addition to shortening its lifespan was a decent workaround to this, but the proper way of “nerfing” this card in my opinion would be to expand the elixir-manipulating options. This could involve perhaps robbing your opponent of elixir directly, or adding tricks like the Elixir Golem that provide alternative ways of messing with elixir. This would provide players with other options, which would start to paint a better picture of the actual balancing condition of the elixir pump. Then Supercell could proceed with further buffs or nerfs or reworks with a lot more knowledge of what was or wasn’t wrong with the card.
Clash Royale went into a weird path after i stopped playing in 2019, so refreshing seen your videos and seeing the old "tournment lvl" cards, as far as i remember my first legendary was Ice Wizzard from the daily wooden chest, good time :')
It didn't need its final nerf yet... It was perfectly balanced! 10% usage is a golden number, cause if you wanna use it, you can. If not, don't need to!
Man, I've watched every single card "documentary" and I've loved all of them. I'ts so interesting and nostalgic every time. I don't think I've used the collector ever other than like in draft matches, and I watched the whole thing without skipping even a second. That's a big word from me, I have an attention span of a 5 year old iPad kid. Overall, please never stop making these!
My idea for an evolution would be to have some amount of elixir cost reduction for troops you place near the pump, maybe a flat amount to encourage use with cheaper cards? It would might help the issue of it not interacting with troops much as you would want to place the pump where you can place troops
i had a couple ideas for e-pump evolution, but idk how they would change interactions or if they would be too broken/game changing: 1. Instead of giving elixir every few seconds, the elixir pump speeds up your elixir generation while on the field. An extra idea is to make it start out as a barely noticeable boost but slowly get faster until it gets destroyed. 2. Somewhat similar to the skeleton king idea, the pump will get a meter (like skel. king) above the health bar that gets filled each time you place a card, and when it gets filled you get 2 elixir.
I think that nice evo pump concept would be increasing elixir bar capacity from 10 to 13/14/15. That would let to spawn more cards in one push, without producing more elixir than regular pump produces.
you may say early players didnt knew how to play the game , but thats what made it soo fun , everyone was kind of just doing their own thing , experimenting
As a pre-2020 player it's sad to see such awesome cards get such destructive nerfs. Hopefully this will get sorted one day in the future rather than just making it unusable.
I feel like (as some one who used to play Clash a decent amount of time but not anymore) that the Pump should never get an evolution. I vividly remember the time where Miner 1.9 was a thing and with a Pump evo something similar could return (basically you defend with spirits and kit with something like a hog rider while supporting it with Evo Bomber or Bats then overwhelming your opponent in double elixir). However I believe your balance suggestions were spot on. Keep up the good work. Really enjoy this content
I was not a huge Clash Royale player but when I heard they added what is effectively the banana farm from Bloons into a vs. deck building game I knew immediately what was about to happen. Any income increase to let you crap out more of your strong options is a huge power spike
I think supercell wants to silently remove beatdown at this point, both pump and battle healer getting massive nerfs dispite being mid cards right next to eachother is suspicious (they're taking their sweet time on fixing that battle healer bug)
Just a nore, elixir is NOR used in clash of clans to train troops. This mechanic was changed 1-1.5 years ago. Anyway, good quallity of the video, love that!
One thing I'm thinking about them is adding another elixir generating card to CR, maybe a troop that gives you elixir when it gets kills or upon death like a reverse Elixir Golem I think this would be somewhat effective because of cards like Zap & Log with how each of them was super busted but got better as more options where added to fill that role so if there's other options for elixir generation maybe the same effect will happen, idk man I'm just yapping
Not really related, but there's a buff I'd like to see supercell try. I'd like to see them try 3 musketeers at 8 elixir. Clearly seems busted, but it's still an 8 elixir card that can be fully killed with poison. They tried making electro giant cheaper, and they tried the mirror buff. They don't have to keep it, but I'd like to see what happens.
Principally I never used spells when I still played. But in general, the deck I had most fun with was exactly weird, like I used. Skeleton giant, witch, lumber jack, bomber, princess, lakais, mirror and oven. Somehow this deck got never boring in 7 years of play. Still love my girl the witch even in her worst days.
i think a cool evolution for the elixir pump is if it spawned elixir blobs alongside the elixir it produced, but I don't know how useful it'd be or how balanced it would be, it could even be a nerf since the elixir blobs would technically be having your pump produce elixir for the opponent
I've never played or even downloaded Clash Royale (or Clash of Clans) yet Gratz videos are something I drop almost everything to watch, and always look forward to.
