I grew up in Aberedeen in the 60s and 70s where my family went to sea on trawlers. My dad was Dites Bisset and my Uncle was Johnny Smith (skipper) of Aberdeen Progress and Janwood to name a few, I knew the likes ofToshy McIntosh and Terry Taylor in my youth due to my dad and Uncle and spent many a school holidays trawling around the Faroes. We fished of the Saddleback and other areas. Stunning transit into the fjords and onto Klaksvik. Pity I was only 13-15 at the time but have some great memories. Altogether I sailed on the Aberdeen Progress, Janwood and the Velia. Love watching the videos on TH-cam. Point Law is not the same as it used to be but I have been back to Aberdeen watching ships sail from the Torry Battery.
My Dad & Granda both worked on the trawlers, Granda was an engineer & my Dad was a deckhand. Both were called Robert King Ritchie, RIP 🙏 🪦, I'm the last of the name sake.
