  • In this photo editing tutorial, I cover a full workflow for editing a landscape image. We start with the global edit and then move on to refinements with Lightroom's new masking features.
    Get the best image quality possible with bit.ly/TopazBundle
    The Topaz bundle I recommend includes the infamous AI trilogy:
    For A.I. Sharpening, bit.ly/sharpen-ai
    For A.I. Noise reduction, bit.ly/denoise-ai
    and for truly AMAZING upscaling and enlargement bit.ly/gigapixel-ai
    If you're into getting the best finished output for your work these tools are invaluable. I rely on them heavily. If I could only get one it would be Gigapixel. That program is a beast. It also has denoise and sharpening features built in, they're just not dedicated AI tools like SharpenAI and DeNoiseAI.

    Optimizing the image at the end was done with bit.ly/TopazBundle. If your budget doesn't stretch to all 3 that make up the suite I'd stick with this one: bit.ly/gigapixel-ai as it can resurrect older files from smaller camera sensors due to its excellent upscaling technology. It also contains a sharpen and denoise feature too, which do a good job although the AI versions are reserved for the dedicated bit.ly/sharpen-ai and bit.ly/denoise-ai.

    “Visualize spots” - a revelation! Funny when you use LR since the very first version and still learn new things like this. Thank you!

      I recall that same moment when I found out. It was like what? Where the heck has that been hiding. Oh, been there all along 😂

    Nice video but maybe one tip for the Lightroom sharpening. There is slider called "Masking" in sharpening section which basically determines which area of the image is going to be sharpened. If you hold "alt" during sliding it, it shows the mask. Using this basically removes the need of using noise reduction section - at least when shooting on low ISO.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Yes, I like combining alt while altering the sliders in Sharpen. It's a nice feature. I'm just not a huge fan of the masking option. Sometimes I find it quickly yields less realism doing localised sharpening than amreglobl approach. But yes at low iso's it work well s good tip. Cheers.

    Best 27 minutes I've spent in a while. I really enjoy your videos and it's great to have your take on working in Lightroom! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I found the new masking in LR hard to understand but you've given me confidence to give it another go. BTW the image finishing at the end is a really good option. Great video again!

    Wow, what a workflow. I would be interested in seeing a complex workflow where you start in Lightroom, and following your decision process across multiple tools. I often start in Lightroom, but end up in Photoshop/Luminar and also Topaz. I’d be interested to follow along with your workflow in these scenarios. Thank you for the time you put into these videos.

    Thank you for a very useful tutorial. I like the way you explain your reasoning behind every stage of the process. A similar work-through for the Topaz suite would be very useful.

      Thanks Roger. Topaz is a great suite of very powerful software so I'd love to cover it more in future videos. Watch this space...

    Excellent tutorial Anthony - thank you. Your work is much appreciated. I picked up your channel from watching your Luminar Ai tutorials and now watch all your work as one of my favourites. The fact you break the steps into concise sections make going back to follow various steps much easier to find. I have been looking at ways of controlling contrast to start and take your tip to use the Camera neutral profile - to get going in small steps and build the contrast step by step as shown. I am still getting used to the mask changes in Lightroom and it was interesting to see how you modified the masks to affect the particular parts of the sea. Perhaps you may wish to do a separate tutorial on that at some point.

      Thanks Robert. You know what, I was doing some masking in LR before and thought - I really should do a tutorial on this! Watch this space....

      Thanks Debbie. Yes, I'd like to do more Lightroom edits and tutorials. Interestingly though they never perform as well. IE they don't get as many views which I find wierd.

    Hi Anthony. I have just discovered your channel and love your attitude and presentation with tutorials. I have been absent from photography for a wee bit over two years now, but want to start all over again. My wife bought me a Canon 1100d way back when I was suffering with depression and photography helped me so much. At the moment I have an old laptop with 8 gig of ram and i3 processor and an old version of Lightroom on disc. I think it was the last one on disc before they became available online only. I really like lightroom but don't like the idea of the subscription every year. I must admit I really love the look of Lumina neo. Would it run on both windows and Mac, as I will be buying a Mac later in the year? Would it be better to wait until I buy the Mac? Also I want to learn more about Topaz, as I have loads of old photos I took years ago that would benefit from this amazing software. I would like to see you take a really bad photo and work on it in lumina neo then onto Topaz for finishing off, ready for the print stage. Many thanks and I'm looking forward to watching more of your video's to learn how to create better images.

      Thanks Steve, I appreciate that 🙏👍. So as no stranger to bouts of depression myself I know what a tough place that can be. Glad photography has helped you. Good wifey! 👍
      I think Neo (and any app running AI) may struggle on your current system but a new mac.... all good there! If you want to send any old shots through for consideration to be featured on the channel please be my guest. anthonyeditsyourphotos@gmail.com
      Good idea for a complete workflow vid for old photos!

    Thanks a bunch for your tutorials, they have helped me quite a bit so far.
    A question, if I may: What is your stance towards the tone control auto-button? So far it gave me quite ok results. Obviously only as a shortcut to get a headstart or to get an idea in which direction to edit.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it helps Christoph... use it! Personally I build my edits from the ground up but I've done so many that I know what to expect from each slider. As a helping hand / kick starter I think the auto-button can be a valuable tool to get you going for sure.

  • @atthewoodie3384

    Helpful because you explain why you are doing the edits. Could you do the same edits and get the same result with Luminar AI/Neo?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I'm sure I could get a similar result in NEO or Luminar AI. Reason being we have access to more creative tools than in Lightroom.

    So I am interested in the Topaz program, however you say that the GIGA has denies and sharpening in it? My question is, I am not a pro by no mean and havent considered selling my prints yet either but I do like to print them, do you think getting Giga ONLY would be enough or should I get all 3? what would be the difference or draw down?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of the 3 I find Gigapixel the most useful and it might be worth just getting that for now and see if it meets your needs.

      Exactly 8 words being unnecessarily rude. I get it that the edit might not be to your taste, but I'm just trying to help share editing techniques. I put a lot of time and effort into these tutorials and share them freely. There's a proverb that I'm reminded of "If you've got nothing nice to say... "
