One of the most genuine sailing TH-cam channels I have found yet. I hope you both return to the sea soon. You will be missed by many.

I'm so sad to read that this adventure is coming to an end, at least for now. I feel really connect to this chanel and its protagonists as they keep things simple and affordable. It is inspiring by showing that it's feasable. Furthermore I share the concern about the conservation of coral reefs and oceans. I prise you to donate the youtube revenue to coral reef aware projects. Thank you!
Best wishes for you two and I hope you would continuate the Adventure in the coming years. Or maybe you would start some other interesting projects. Whatever it end up happening I'm sure it'll be for the best.
    Good luck!! And thanks again!!

My friend, if a carburetor is not giving you trouble, do not take it apart. Certainly take the bowl off occasionally and check for debris, but do not strip the carb routinely. Try to use an in-line filter too, if you have room for it. A carb' is a precision instrument, and it does not like being disturbed. It is the same with motorcycles. Keep the fuel clean, but do not disturb the carb' unless you have to.

We to are novice sailers and have been envious of what youve been up to. We were looking forward to you coming to Australia. I do hope you get to finish your adventures some day. We too hope the new owner picks up where you left off. We wish the both of you all the best for the future. Brent & Christine, Brisbane Australia.

The fuel routing in that carb is a bit iffy. I've had some trouble with it on my outboard. When the o-ring ages it can sort of short circuit things leading to the engine flooding. Can't remember exactly how it worked, but I think the impulse line for the fuel pump is on the side of the fuel bowl right next to a hole where fuel is pumped and it leaks between there.

Spinnaker and asymetrical spinnaker like this one.
Three lines..an uphaul or halyard, a sheet and a guy joined in a continuous loop thru aft spinnaker sheet blocks port and starboard ( can be independent lines also with stopper knots , very important) around and outside all other standing rigging. and can be brought into the cockpit.
Method. Halyard up haul first and fully to the head of the mast ( sheeve block).
Second pole the guy and set (or can be set up first.. after a bit of experience, that is)
Pole should be on an independent uphaul and down haul and hoisted to stand at a slight upward angle.
The pole, when hoisted with the main should be a near continuation of the boom and at the same time, or independently, at right angles to the wind.
When hoisting, first the spinnaker uphaul, set pole, cleat guy, haul in and release sheet until luff ( pole side) of the spinnaker begins to curl or collapse and then slack " just enough" and cleat. To fly it correctly you want the luff just on the curl but not curling.
To drop, release sheet and spill wind, take down pole, down haul sock or lower and haul down spinnaker carefully and stow.
Set it all up first in a windless day at anchor or in a marina. very important.
You can use it on a run, a broad reach, a reach or close reach but wont work on the wind (close trisail reach spinnaker sailing is my personal favorite and I have often flown a foresail and main together with the spinnaker using this method.).
Hope this was useful. Did I miss anything?

    • @TheAdventuresofTarka
      @TheAdventuresofTarka  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

To be fair to Tarka, she's done it before, and a number of other Albin Vegas have circumnavigated, not to mention passages around the horn. I don't think the size of the boat makes the South Pacific much more risky than on any other boat, as the weather in that ocean is very tame and predictable.

    hi guys,
    about the alcohol-stove-fuel-crisis:
one can use methanol or ethanol. ethanol is just high grade liqour. sailing the caribbean rum should be availiable. you just have to find a 70%+ kind of rum. it comes out the distillery at 70 - 85% and usually gets thinned with water to the common 40% we know.
methanol is widely used as paint thinner/solvent. yes, thats the one that turnes you blind if consumed, so dont mix em up ;)

7:43 That brass piece is the jet and that hole needs to be 100% clean. For cleaning small carbs you need WD40, very small wire, welding tip cleaners, and compressed air. NEVER use carb cleaner and if you don't know what you're doing keep the air pressure low.

If you don't know what your doing with rebuilding your carburetor, you should either not take it apart or get yourself a service manual there will tell you how many turns on them screws and stuff so you get the air and gas mixture correct if you don't you could have real problems as you have found out, what you need is a service manual not a diagram diagramwill show you the parts but not give you the correct turns on the screws to mix your gas and air and such things
