    I actually marathoned the Indiana Jones movies in preparation for Dial of Destiny. I miss treasure hunt movies that mix in true history with fiction. Don't get many of those anymore.

    Great to see this dive into the various Indy artifacts continue! However I believe there is one not covered yet: The diamond from Temple of Doom. There isnt just the real history behind it but also Indy's own history with it given how Temple of Doom actually wasnt the first time he was involved with that diamond.

    Is the Dial of Destiny the first of Jones' artifacts to not be "of the Gods"? The Ark, Sankara Stones, Holy Grail and Crystal Skull all seem connected to gods (Judeo-Christian God, Shiva, Jesus & the Interdimensional beings). Is this a departure from the norm for the franchise? Can't wait to find out the answers to all these mysteries this week! Thanks for the video!

    • @CouncilCape897
      @CouncilCape897 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's not a departure from the norm in the wider franchise. While the most well-known artifacts are tied to religions and mythologies, most stories chronologically set before Temple Of Doom (but there are exceptions) feature mundane possessions of historical figures or lost civilizations and/or technology of great cultural importance, which is why Indy is portrayed as such a skeptic of the supernatural in the movies.

    It should be noted there's a high chance this dial was a party trick/trinket. The steam engine (Aeolipile) was also invented back then, but never saw industrial usage. A Spaniard even demonstrated its usage in 1543 to Charles V, but got rejected.

    I like the way you brought this device up and tied it into the new indiana jones movie. This device I think makes the movie a lot more entertaining And I'm just shocked, it didn't do better at the box office. If you look at most of the silly movies released now and almost makes Harrison ford as indiana jones Look like a real archaeologist.
