That’s one of my favorites, too. Discovering Return of the Brecker Brothers while in high school was such a revelation. Trumpet-playing me at the time could not have imagined that 25 years later I’d end up playing EWI, of all things. Thanks for everything, Mike Brecker! 😁
Talking about Michael Brecker I love the Steps Ahead version of In a Sentimental Mood with Michael Brecker and Mike Mainieri. Truly smooth business from the 80s.
I was just listening to Michael Brecker on the Frank Zappa album track called The Purple Lagoon. I love his solo on that track. Also, there is a TH-cam channel called Sharp#11 run by young lad from Holland coincidentally who is obsessed with Michael Brecker solos. Great video chaps. Many thanks!
Oh man, this song was a huge influence on my high school self. I remember it being like a competition between us jazz kids in to see who could play the melody at tempo. Fun memories. Awesome to see you guys take a deep dive on it. Love everything you guys do! Cheers
So nice to see this, thank you guys. I’ve been listening to “Don’t Try This at Home” lately - great tunes (shout out don grolnick, and one by Vince Mendoza, the “both sides now” arranger) and incredible playing all around
I love Grolnick's tune Chime This! Sublime playing from Don and Michael on the head...then that double time pickup into the tune 🤤Brecker's solo here is one of my favorites.
@@chvolow I felt the same way! I have a Brecker transcription book that has that tune in it. Learned it on guitar decades ago now learning it on piano. Beautiful song start to finish 👍🍻
Guys should check out their performance with Zappa in New York live... dude... it was killer! Mike the GOAT... i'm a bass player and have transcribed more solos by him than of anybody else... cheers
Guys... c'mon with the "Dude jazz" stuff: there's too much male stereotyping in jazz already. It's really off-putting. But Michael Brecker is a legend. You can tell it's him instantly.
Man, I remember this. I used to go to NJF every year when it was still in The Hague. First time I saw Mike live was with Steps. Great memories!
Michael's solo on Spherical is in my top 5 solos of all time all instruments all music.

Can you guys do an episode where you react to Michael Brecker playing Impressions with McCoy Tyner? It's unbelievable.
Ah yes, I used to love The Hague, but that was before I was convicted to jazz. Now I can appreciate the show even more!
what a great time for The Hague
1992 great festival
Saw the original band in the 70s at the jazz workshop in Boston , Sanborn, Alto, Will Lee, bass
